Hey guys and gals. I know there are a lot of people here who are eager to get into the game industry and I just wanted to give everyone a head's up about recent trends. Right now, there is a big demand for environmental artists. There are a lot studios advertising positions and from the indications I'm getting from people…
Hi guys, I'm programming an exporter and have run into a problem with getting the normals. For a box that's an editable mesh I have no problem getting the 8 vertices and the 12 faces (2 triangles for each side), I can't get the 12 * 3 = 36 normals though. Does anyone know how to do this? There is also something bugging me,…
Hello! I am a 3d Artist from Pakistan, I graduated in July 2016 from the UK in Games Design but after moving back from the UK ive had a tough time getting a job in the industry. I mostly do environments but also like to do vehicles and props. Wherever I apply I just get rejected, one time I got an art test but they…
The problem here is you're using hard edges without uv seams. Everywhere you use a hard edge you also need to split your uv islands up. You can't really "paint it out" then you'll just end up with hard edges. One thing you really need to keep in mind. How big is this object? If its a peice of thigh armor it will be quite…
I have a strange problem, my normal map gets cut. Why? I get the same problem if I bake in xNormal or Projection in 3Ds max. So is there a problem with the cage? The cage is covering the high with no problem. I dont get the same error on the upper side. Only the sides and the back. What may cause this? Thanks!
If you know how much time you will spend per asset, then calculating per asset + changes is fine, it's not unelikely that i do the first model for a new job on my own and let the client decide whether or not he likes it and is willing to pay me. I worked on it, and if its good enough its worth getting paid for, if he…
ill just be honest because everyone has been in your shoes. Lately i see lots of artists clinging to that "first job" hope and apply like mad while not polishing their skills DAILY . The problem i see is that they are more focused on getting the job , instead of letting the job getting to them, what i mean is , the artists…
I was wondering what is the best way (if it is possible at all) to get cavities to be detected on geometry that intersects, but is not contiguous. Like in the image attached. I will be making something that when I retopologise, it will be a lot cleaner to have bits that intersect like this, rather than trying to get the…
I made a quick blade in Maya and unwrapped it get get going in Substance Painter again after a long time. The only thing that amazed me more than how much I remembered was how much I forgot. The guard and scales are premade materials in Substance with some dings and wear for good measure but I made the blade from scratch.…
