Does the aiImage node in maya use the luminance as alpha by default?
It's in the title. Some textures with the maya image node would need to be RAW color space and alpha as luminance, Some do not need this. The aiImage node that I'd really like to start using doesn't have an option for luminance/alpha. Does anyone know? -
Any way to get luminance variation in a B&W bitmap/mask?

Yeah the lumen coverage looks good (it should look similar to the scene), you're using hardware lumen so it's going off the actual geo instead of SDFs and cards that software lumen uses, it'll be fine for a portfolio project or a hardware raytracing only project. -

looks like enormous cost for lumen in this scene. You can toggle lumen by placing a post process volume in the scene, set the extent to be unbound, and then set the reflection and global illumination to none, rather than lumen. I dont have this project, but I am using lumen in my own projects and not seeing cost like that…
