Well, I think the vertex normal changes because it now has an extra edge (or two, or more) connected to it, so that changes how it averages the normal. Hey hey, Been futzing about with high poly modeling and when I go to render my am. occ the floating pieces in the highpoly cast shadows. I was told by vahl that this can be disabled by enabling "front face casting" in the mental ray settings. However, I can't find this in Max. (Max 2008). Any ideas?
Hi guys I'm currently getting back to 3ds Max after a year of studying Maya at University. I've got a mesh already UV-ed with a ridiculously high polycount. If I was in Maya I would use Poly Reduce and Paint Weights tool to get a nice simple mesh. Any chance there is something similar in 3ds Max?
