Maya2012 - Level Tools?
Is it possible to align the rotational pivot of an object to the orientation of an edge or a face in Maya?, whether it be through plugin or script. Level tools for Maya 2009 used to have a tool for something similar, but now we only have Bonus Tools...and the download link for the Bonus Tools has been down to some time… -

PathDeform 3DSMAX
I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the object space PathDeform modifier to work properly and deform my mesh around the spline, without it rotating the restulting object, seemingly arbitrarily. The world space modifier and the move to path button produce perfect restults but unfortuanately, can't be flattened… -

I'm not sure I would bother rigging it up. You could probably just place the pivots in the right places for the objects and animate them directly in the timeline.
