What is this piece for? I'm guessing its not visualization for an actual location. Product demo? I used to work for a viz company that specialized in windfarms and large infrastructure projects. I learnt the hard way (by going over budget) that high detail rendering and complex materials were completely wasted on the…
So far I've mainly used Marmoset or fancy photoshop tricks to render my work on my portfolio , but during the GDC lecture on portfiolio's it was mentioned that companies would like to see stuff rendered in engine, which makes perfect sense. Now i'm familair with importing models into an engine, but i'm looking around for a…
Heyo Polycount, since I finally finished my uni courses, and I finally get some personal work time, I decided I wanted to make a new character to spice up my portfolio a little bit. I plan on making a futuristic female Engineer or Mech Pilot / engineer with a similar style to overwatch and dishonored

Hi, I'm planning to create a walk cycle as well as a run cycle and importing them into Unreal. I have a question, do studios let their game engine do 100% of the blend or do they animate a transition in their 3D package to "help" the game engine out? Cheers.
Hi guys, for those of you who have some experience with the cry engine, what sort of things should I need to know about bringing models in? Specifically guns. This here is a gun I made a while ago. It has a diffuse, spec and noramal map, but as you can see it is less than appealing. Should guns use tangent space normals or…
Hi, I came across Hexels as I'm trying to create/commission some "animated engineering diagrams" for a metrology (measurement science) website. Think a bit like a black and white line engineering drawings , oblique or isometric projection, with an animation showing things like angles changing and their numerical impact.…
For free 3D engines, "the big 3" is your best bet. Project Anarchy is another but not the best looking engine out of the box. Marmoset is pretty amazing, and is probably what you're looking for. If you're just trying to show off models in a game engine.
Hey everyone! I've had the chance to land my hands on Unreal Engine 4 awesomeness, so this is the thing i worked on to play around with the new material, particle and blueprint tools. The whole train is approximately 150k tris. [ame=" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS-rv5pD9Bs"]Stephenson's Rocket in Unreal Engine 4 -…
