I know about the nitrous, I didn't realize the gamma/lut would have so much effect. That was the issue. As you were, ignore the user error. Bleh. Thanks for the help all though for this dummy. -

How much History do you have on the object? Try deleting the History then Extrude. When it crashes, Maya is attempting to save the file in that directory. Sometimes you get lucky and are able to reopen that file without any errors. -

Are you baking from one mesh to another using a Projection modifier? I've seen errors like this when trying to bake using just 1 mesh, no Projection. -
