So i have been working on a scene for class, the file opens fine at school and i have been working on it there, but the past 2 weeks the file will not open at my home pc, i have tried reinstalling maya, importing it into a new scene, and even referencing it into a scene, and nothing will work, if anyone knows anything i can do so i can get the file to work at my home pc please help!

Some more information might help such as what version of Maya are you using at home, what version is the school using, a crash report, what hardware you have, polycount of scene, ect.

Standard things to try to get the software working are update drivers, make sure you have the latest patches/fixes from Autodesk, and if all else fails reinstall.

what's in the scene that you need to keep? If it's just geometry then I'd suggest export to obj or fbx from the uni machine and then take that home and import it.

I'd also try saving as .ma (maya ascii) rather than .mb and see if that works.

Do you get any messages in the script editor before it crashes? If so post those as they may be useful to help work out why it's crashing. If it's something specific in the file crashing it then it may be possible to manually edit the .ma file to fix it.

the maya versions are the same but i brought my laptop to school, what i did was import the scene into a fresh maya file, and delete my character reference and it worked!

For future reference to anyone reading this thread via the search function:

If you ever get a Maya fatal error on scene load, try to import the old scene into a new one. If you're lucky, its nothing to do with anything you've made, and more to do with the fact that Maya has either linked, deleted, or created a scene relevant node incorrectly.
