I am looking to convert a 2d architectural drawing (dwg or dwx file) to a 3d model in Houdini. I would like to know if you have any references. I would like to create a format for drawing in the future and automatically output 3D models in Houdini from the drawings.
np m8, the important thing is that you pull up some reference pics when you are drawing. Say you are drawing a dragon: google some lizards and bats and stuff, if you are drawing a sci-fi rainforest, google a rainforest - and keep the images up while you draw. :)
if i have a shape i can not wrap my head around. i just go in and draw a wireframe over it. starting with the more detailled parts to see how much resolution i would need in the simpler elements. a ring is always easy to upres

Hey! New here too, first post! Good to meet :) Looks awesome! the lighting and rendering are great. Sorry, no design critique but I have some drawing feedback: When it comes to areas of improvement, the arms and hands stand out to me. I think you could add a little more structure to the forms. They look a bit bubbly and…
I'm not sure that's true. One material with 2 textures is 1 draw call. Two materials with 1 texture each is 2 draw calls. And in forward rendering, that's also an extra draw call per material per per-pixel light (so for 2 per-pixel lights, we're now at 2 draw calls and 4 draw calls, respectively). And, depending on the…
wow those figure drawings are ace! are you actually at a life drawing session when you do these or are they poses from a book or something? Ive never been to actual life drawing class :/
Get hold of the PDF for Loomis' How to Draw the Head and Hands. His head drawing technique is really good for understanding the basic forms of the head. Bridgman's construction drawings are very useful too.
