[3DSMAX] Snap to grid problem (And ornatrix draw strands)

Splines snap to the grid, but grid snapping is off. This is an example of Ornatrix. It should draw the spline in screenspace. This is a stupid question but I just can't find the setting in 3dsmax that allows me to draw splines in screen space.

Draw a spline in max or strand  Ornatrix in screen space

I would use csWorkPlane. It lets you lock a user grid to screen space.

Should work for ornatrix too?

That's the default behavior, I'm afraid. 
You can do what pxgeek suggested or try if Polydraw > Branches gives you something useful. Might be quicker to create, but requires cleanup (you could extract on of the loops per branch or try if you can modify it to save the temporal splines it creates).

The strange thing is, that at least in Ornatrix it's not supposed to behave like this.

What happens if instead of an Orthographic view, you use a Perspective view with the Perspective Grid turned off? Snap to Grid won't work in Perspective view if there is no visible grid. It might bypass your unwanted snapping behaviour.
