Hi everyone, I used Substance Designer to generate some neat mountains with some snow on top. My plan was to generate a Height Map with Designer to get a Basemesh for sculpting in ZBrush. After finishing the sculpt, I generate a new Height Map with xNormal and the result will be loaded in Substance Designer to get the snow…
Hey, I've had issues before where normals maps in UE4 look 'wrong' with artefacts on edges and whatnot but in Marmoset, they all looked fine - it was just the way it was being shown in UE4. Now however, I'm having the problem where my baked normals look fine in Substance but in Marmoset I have dark edges, almost as though…
Just finished a modular real-time library environment in Unreal Engine - a reusable modular kit (blockout + modeling in Maya), Substance Painter texturing, hero-prop dressing, Unreal assembly, and a motivated lighting pass (warm afternoon sun through tall windows). The focus was the two things that make or break a…
So I have been playing around with Substance Designer and Substance Painter a lot recently, and have to say that I am hooked. They are amazing tools, that just get more and more amazing with time. The sad reality though is they can be very time consuming to make your own materials, and I havent found very many high…
Hey, Wondering if someone could help me with an issue I'm having exporting textures from Substance Painter (to be taken into UE4). I have my model as shown below - it has 3 texture sets (1 for the mesh, 1 for the floor and 1 for the hole under the mesh). I applied smart materials to the model in substance painter then…

I bought Substance Designer a long time ago, and I messed around with it for a bit, but after seeing the AC:U art dump I was inspired to learn it for realsies. So I decided to try and make one new substance a day for a week. I'm over halfway there! Crits please!
Hi guys, Having some trouble here understanding the process of preparing my meshes for baking in Substance Painter. My understanding of the process is a little foggy as it is, so I apologize in advance if my explanation doesn't make much sense. I have a high poly asset that is comprised of multiple subtools (each a single…
I've been able to make some nice sci-fi and concrete/plaster textures from scratch with Substance Designer, but i never found tutorials or examples of good nature substances: grass, rocks, cliffs, etc. Do you guys have any links or tips for this kind of workflow?
I highly recommend texture artists to look into substance. I find it an amazing tool and it keeps getting better. One other benefit rarely mentioned is the plug into engine ability and how much texture memory you can save. UDK now has a substance rdy connection with proper use you can save a ton of memory. I do not think…
