Strike a balance, yeah you need more tessellation than normal but consider using a black and white mask to modulate the vertex blending so you don't have to use as many verts. There's a super basic example in UDK at: Material'MaterialTemplates.PerfTricks.VertexColorModulateTransition'
I have a couple groups I wish to bake out separately on the same texture set but I'm getting AO projecting onto the other baking groups. Do I have this set up correctly?
http://home.mn.rr.com/ihworkshop/terrain.jpg Did this last night. Going to try a water fall scene next and add some scatter objects. I made some scatter objects for this piece but was having trouble with getting it to work properly. With a couple more experiments im sure I'll get it figured out.
I came across this technique here: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131819 While the installer works fine for normal maps in PS. Is there a way to get it accurately using the material editor nodes in 3dsmax? I currently use the overlay method in the material editor using the composite map to layer the normal…

a common technique is to blend the two materials by their height texture https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdjRNT3DGTM even just a tiled noise pattern to breakup the edges can help too.
I'm a bit frustrated! :poly127: I'm not sure how to explain this so I'll just tell you guys what I want to do... Here's the mesh. Now I want to open an image with an alpha background (hope I'm saying this right) And assign it to the mesh. I hope it's not too complicated. In Milkshape 3D it's very simple: All you have to do…
