v is snap to vert x is snap to grid c is snap to curve / edge if you select your vert and then mouse over the edge you want, press and hold c, and click / hold mmb you it should snap along that edge and you can slide it around the edge, its a bit tricky to get the hang of.
Fair point. I chose to make the laptop this way to sort of pay homage to all the cartoons I watched (yay, X-men!) where futuristic keyboards were drawn in a grid and without actual button names and also because I'm lazy :P Do you think it breaks immersion enough to warrant a redo of the model?
No, no it did not! Was i supposed to believe that the whole world was made of those metal grid parts that fall apart with only the weight of the car? That they were not supported by anything? You know just as well as everyone else that it was a cop out! bad bad one at that! They ran out of time, so had to crap out an…
Mouth looks too low like KDR said, I think the meshflow looks pretty good from what I can see, though you might want the edges around the mouth to be more circular, right now they look pretty grid like. My hat's off to you for modeling in milkshape, hahah.
UE3 would be a good choice, as is Cryengine 2 and maybe Source for some stuff. Just use which you feel more comfortable using. There's plenty of tutorials for each engine. Oh, and building modular sets is a lot harder than you think. You need to stick too the grid and do plenty of pre-planning.
Looking good so far. I don't know if you are planing anything like this for later on but I'm thinking maybe you can add in some subtle grid textures or pattern embosses to the floor to make it a little more interesting. You could also create a sprinkler system for watering the plants and a drain hole on the floor.
Try listening to bobby chiu's chui stream videos. I know a bunch of people that it has inspired :). http://www.youtube.com/user/digitalbobert/videos?sort=da&flow=grid&view=0 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih3djTbpXOw&feature=plcp"]Pt1: Digital Painting of old man with Bobby Chiu - YouTube[/ame]
Parent the Place3DTexture node to your camera (it should be visible in the viewport as a box with a grid on one side after you create projection, and also it will show up in outliner), then the texture projection should correctly update in viewport as you move the camera. Beware, your framerate will drop significantly…
Another way.... Text shape > Interp rollout > Optimize off. Bevel modifier > Params rollout > Cap Type: Grid. Then tweak the Bevel Values etc. Tesselate modifier > Operate on triangles, Face-center. Sometimes I need to convert the text shape to an Editable Spline and use Refine to add some more verts here and there.
Sexy bake. The mesh/grid/grip surfaces are rather noisy though. If your posted image is the actual resolution, you may wanna tweak the detail density of those parts, and make the shapes a bit softer. In any case, make sure you keep contrast and noise in check when working on the final materials/textures.
