AO as an X rating makes much more sense, thanks for clearing that up dude. i was thinking it replaced anything over rated R but i've seen some weak rated R movies compared to some 'mature' games (depending on the player and his options i suppose).

    [ QUOTE ]
Their statement doesn't really say the "hackers" added that, they just say it was hard to unlock. But it's worded the yellow press way, i.e. when you read it you THINK they said the patch added it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

i was lead to believe they did blame hackers for altering source code. this link quotes an offical statement from rockstar saying

    [ QUOTE ]
"hackers created the 'hot coffee' modification by disassembling and then combining, recompiling and altering the game's source code."

KP: In this context "hot coffee modification" refers to the patch that unlocks the minigame, not the minigame itself. Of course the disassembling claims are incorrect, he modified the files directly with a hex editor. I giess "disassemble, change, recompile" was the answer the legal team got when they asked a coder how you could modify the game, not the result of an investigation or something.

So, you can get an "M" rating on a game that lets you kill a hooker and steal her cash but put in some consensual adult sex and the rating goes to "AO" laugh.gif

"It also could lead to a crack-down by the industry on the modding community, forcing game developers to spend more time making their games mod and crack proof lest they be held responsible for some future modification of their game."

This isnt good. This isnt good at all.

It's a lesson learned at an early age. Misbehave, and you'll get spanked. I'd like to thank Rockstar, and the kid who released the patch, for possibly making life more difficult for everyone involved in the mod community. But perhaps this is a great opportunity for developers. Could this be the beginning of a new exciting age in game developement? Well done, yes, well done. Now go to your room.

They're not too stoked... from Gamasutra's front page
Take-Two's own response to the ratings increase has been to lower its third-quarter and fiscal year outlook; the quarterly projection has been lowered from around $205 million to around $160 million. Expectations for the fiscal year have dropped from $1.3 billion to $1.26 billion in sales. The extra costs will come from the withdrawal of current copies of the game from the market, as well as production of "fixed" copies which eliminate the "Hot Coffee" minigame. Take-Two shares also fell by 6 percent in after-hours trading as a result of the news, from $27.07 per share to $25.50.

It's offical, The ESRB has been changed AO. A new version of the game that will suit the M rating will be out soon. Too bad everyone already has a copy otherwise this would be a pretty slick marketing gimick to get people to gobble up the copies still on store shelves. QUICK GET YOUR AO COPY NOW WHILE SUPPLIES LAST! =P

ESRB can lick my tasty ass.

That's right, I said it. They made that change because of all the bullshit pressure put on them by assholes like Clinton. You actually mean to tell me that anyone who can patch a game to unlock this can't go to www.searchforbigtits.com and find REAL ANAL PORN!? HOLY SHIT!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elysium: Wait, you honestly think this will have any negative impact on the modding community?... Wow.... Wow.........

My thoughts are, if it was included in the game CD, then it's in the game and the developers responsibility.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Right, because clearly the developer SHOVES the game down the kids throat behind the parents back without providing a rating system! Almost everyone agrees that if you're old enough to handle heads being blown off and cussing, you're old enough to watch CLOTHED SEX.

I'm still bitter because Sony had me cover up some of my girls in BloodRayne 2, (they had electrical tape 'X's over their nipples), or they were going to come down on us with black censor bars. THEN they let God of War by with all kinds of breasts. Guess rules are different when you're owned by them.

    That pissed me off.

I'm tired of the 'sex is worse than violence' frame of thought.

The most outrageous quote I've heard so far is this, from the Dallas Morning News today:
'"I love violent video games, but this is crossing the line," said Brittany Stephens, 18, of Arlington. "It’s kind of sick, actually."'
    http://www.quickdfw.com/qbk/pdf/004.PDF

Okay, so yes, she said it precisely. we Americans love violence, but sex is sick.

I'd like to know... since R* could just release a new version of GTA:SA without the 'adult' content, would the ESRB pull the rating back to 'M'? And then perhaps release an 'officially AO' version of the same game with an active Hot Coffee minigame, which teenagers all over could then get their sticky hands on?

Let's not forget that the same variety and strength of content is available on Showtime every weekend night.

I am excited that the first time most of the public hears about "the mod community" it's about something like this:

Rockstar: "Ooohh those evil haxors ruined our game"
Soccer mom #1: "Did you hear what Rockstar wrote about the hacker 'modders'?
Soccer mom #2: "If Rockstar is the evil in the universe and we must destory them, what kind of scum are these haxor 'modders'!?"
Soccer mom #1: "The lowest kind... Ladies, ready the Urban Assault Vehicle! Lock n load we have a new target!"
Soccer mom #4:(a faint voice from the background) "how do you load a Bible?"
Soccer mom #3: "Hey Judith didn't you say your son was working on a rainbow bright mod for Quake2"
Soccer mom #1: "purge the evil! die ye sinners! Cleanse the unclean with FIRE!!!"

*Billy, Judith's son never comes out of the atic again. Judith denies she ever had a son but leaves chicken bones for him to gnaw on at the foot of the atic steps. All is right with the world on Chestnut Drive, until Rockstar slips up again and the ladies are called into action yet again.

Somebody needs to create a Christian Evangelist mod for GTA3, where your missions involve street preaching, 'praise and worship' concerts, missionary visits, faith healing, and you score based on how many people you convert. Your enemies can be, well, every other character in GTA3.

I think its good that violence is more accepted than sex in the media, particularly in the sector of computer games. People being influenced by what they see on screen and killing each other reduces the global population, if everyone was having EVEN MORE sex with each other it would be terrible. Think of how annoying it would be everytime you go out for a meal and there are 10 crying babies next to you. Then think 17 years down the line when they are all old enough to drive. The roads are allready busy enough as they are, shame on rockstar for promoting global warming.
The games industry is one of the best industrys fighting the trend against climate change we can't let thoughtless companies change this.

I think the primary issue is Parents don't want to take time to watch their Kids anymore and are pushing babysitting off to the Legislators and Society. It is the Parents responsiblility to know what their Children are doing, watching and playing. Shrugs.
  • ElysiumGX
    Options
    Offline / Send Message
    ElysiumGX polycounter lvl 18
I believe a reason for that issue is that many parents today are just as irresponsible as their children. They're the children of the 70's and 80's who fell into the role of parent without being prepared. So for our youth today to act without concern for their future is only provoking history to repeat itself. Kids need to learn that having children is a tough job and a very important one. Not an accident or a burden. The young will learn from their environment, even one that's not fit for them. Mean people will make little mean people.

    In reply to ElysiumGX's video

JESUS, what a lunatic. I actually feel sorry for both of them. She's obviously reached her boiling point with that spoiled kid. I mean look at the items in that kid's room as the camera moves around. Flat panel monitor, a stack of X-Box games, a pricey photo printer (I think), a rather large TV and obviously a camcorder (probably digital). And the kid has no respect for her.
Of course, the lack of respect probably comes from her ever creating that base OF respect when he was younger. Now it's all caught up to her. It seems pretty apparent that he was trying to bait her to trigger like that so he could video tape it, but damn, she just doesn't stop. She needs to stand her ground for once and actually kick his ass out.

I was talking to a game developer yesterday who has a very different view.

She was really pissed off at Rockstar for releasing the game with this material even in its hidden form. She mentioned it set a bad precedent and gave more fire to the flames for the government to step in versus the game industry doing it irself. (Ref: See Comics Code Authority)

Basically because the immaturity of some coders and artist at Rockstar just further proving the stereotype that allows all this outside interference.

She also mentioned that yes, In a better world, parents should take responsiblity for their kids. The problem is they don't. Its something as developers she pointed out we need to realize and stop trying to play off back to the parent.

Yeah, and apparently she's broke. So while the kid is at home playing GTA chillin with his best buds, she's out working to pay the bills. He's a dick, and she never should have let it come to this in the first place. Because of the way society has shifted, it almost seems children control their parents.
