    i considered doing this, but my few days in the beta crushed any urge to play this game again. have they improved it much since mid beta? i'm not talking about the character creation bits which seemed to be the only thing it had going for it, and even that was nothing over revolutionary. shame this was a game i had been wanting ever since i saw the first vids for it.

    I'd like to know this too, I feel exactly the same way.

    I was so hyped for it when I saw the initial trailers. Played the beta from day 1 and unfortunately the boredom grew by the minute.

    Too bad with the download problems, this is when ed2k and torrents could be put into good use, but nooo they are bad so no go. Should really use that some more, and especially ed2k is good for them because they only have to give out an 'url', no need for servers.

    EDIT: I just downloaded the install and started to download and its quite fast, so its not the same for everyone apparently, even though I'm from UK.

    15 hrs to download. Halfway through I realized that there was no way in hell my computer could run it, and boy was I right. Lowest of low settings, game crawls, and more often than not I lose connection before I finish connecting to the server. Character creation is fun, just wish I could fuck with clothing options before jumping into the game (As far as I can tell I can't?) so I could at least get a feel for what there is. Game looks interesting, but as of now i'll never be able to tell, leastwise not until I upgrade my ram.

    I couldn't find a good answer so I grabbed a key from Curse. When I registered they still had 27% of keys left to give away, though I don't know how fast that number is dropping.

    When I got mine yesterday afternoon, they were at about 57%, so there's still time if people register reasonably soon.

    Thank you in advance, you may have just saved 12 hours of my life. I'm not sure if that trick works going from the EU beta to the NA KTTC, but I'm giving it a shot now.

    I'm having serious trouble running this game, but I guess that's to be expected with one Gig of ram D:
    Though, I have a friend with a computer that surpasses minimum requirements and his ran just about as bad as mine did on minimal settings.

    I think so, I tried it on my older PC which is a 2.4Ghz Core2Duo with 4GB RAM, and a GeForcer 8600GT... it barely crawled even at crappy resolution.

    It's surprising since the graphics aren't that great, there's not much in the way of FX, the audio is of average quality and the environment isn't really that huge.

    Also the shaders in parts looks pretty terrible, the cars especially really let the look down. So with this in mind, you wonder where the performance is lost. Having said that, I know nothing about how an MMO is run behind the scenes so there could be plenty of explanations.

    But yeah, it's definitely a sluggish one at the moment.

    I used up most of my playtime last night, and I had a great time! The game is really a lot of fun with a group.

    For those of you who played to higher levels in the beta, is there any variance in missions as you get higher in level? Also does anyone know if they are planning on having more than the two locations?

    If you see a criminal doing something illegal (or doing anything for that matter) hover your reticule over them and push ALT, if someone hasn't been dispatched against them already you'll get the dispatch.

    Really, all MMO quests boil down to kill, fetch or messenger quests. I'm very happy we don't have "collect 10 criminal eyeballs" or "escort this slow walkin' dude halfway across the map" type quests.

    I got five hours in early due to getting a Key to the City thanks to my pre-order. It's certainly fun and the customisation is great. I'm a little concerned about the longevity though, even in my five hours there were times when I felt the repetition start to get to me, but hopefully this will improve when I level up more and unlock more weapons and such.

    Also the APB match-ups seem annoying unless there are at least 3 vs 3. 1 vs 1 is usually very dull and usually quite one-sided to whoever has the better weapons. 2 vs 2 is a little better but still a little dull and I did one mission where we were supposed to capture and hold 3 points a fair distance from each other with just the two of us while the other team were capturing them back which was certainly a pain.

    All in all though, there's definitely potential there and I'll give it a solid month before giving a proper final verdict.

    Yeah it's strange really, for some reason I can play the same map in TF2 every night and capture the same intelligence, and never feel any repetition. Yet 4 hours into APB I was starting to feel it.
    I'm not sure if I will buy the game or not, but I will give it some more playtime tonight and see if my opinion changes.

    Wow, thanks for this advice, you think they'd tell you about information that important! On another note, I'm really annoyed by the lack of hit boxes in this game, it's become a "how fast can you reload" firefight every time. Also, whats up with criminals working together a lot more than enforcers?

    Well it's officially open! Don't know who else is playing, but getting addicted to the customization options in this game. Gameplay isn't bad either, and the cars all feel different. I especially like how this mini-cooper knockoff handles. :D

    Love the custom work Esprite! Glad people are enjoying the final product especially the editors. I'm not sure if it is explained very well but we added hotkeys like :

    1-Move
    2-Scale
    3-Rotate
    Alt-duplicate
    Ctrl-select decal from stack

    Now NDA is over we should really have an APB art thread! I will see if my in house stuff is ok to post. Anyway enjoy APB, I have my accounts now so I will see you in there and I cant wait for you guys too see the new stuff coming soon :D

    First reviews are starting to come out... I'm not a PC Gamer reader so I don't know how they are usually but it doesn't look good, the review is fairly entertaining though.

    I agree on one thing with the review 100%, that's the car handling. Since the start of the closed beta I hoped after every patch it would be improved but it never was, it's utterly horrible.

    I'm still in two minds about the game, it's occasionally a lot of fun, and customisation options for me are enjoyable enough to just mess around with for a while, but too often the gameplay is very tedious and the only way to describe it is just 'not fun'.

    Props to RTW for their efforts though, I think the game is on the right track. If they added a stronger PvE element, still heavily co-op based then I think it would be much more enjoyable and have more lasting appeal. As of now the mindless repetition of gang firefights is fun for a minute but gets old too quick, I think we need a reason, objectives, storyline etc, basically WoW in the city, with guns, and cars... that handle better.

    I've been reading the flood of reviews today, super anxious because this is my first published title and I'm so proud of it! Seems to be a Marmite experience with some loving it and others absolutely hating it.

    So far I've seen a few 9/10's a few 8/10's but that PC Gamer score is so low :< pretty gutted. APB will continue to evolve with the community feedback, I've seen the future and its awesome! Totally appreciate the Polycount support!

    PC Gamer has completely disappointed me, the reviewer just didn't have the time invested to explore all aspects of the game and adapt to certain skills and weapons. It was completely biased and an opinionated review to vent his frustration and rage. While I do agree on some parts (mainly variety and repetition of missions) he is completely off shot about the pvp aspect (in which the game was designed for). Biased and tainted excuses for sucking.

    Quotes like this really discredits the review, because he hasn't obviously explored all aspects of the game, such as noobs being able to purchase a variety of veteran weapons through the marketplace. And a player flipping around to fire back and kill him? What, one shot? Impossible. Did he take cover? Obviously not.

    Everything he says contradicts himself, laiden with excuses of lack of skill, and when a reviewer uses cuss words like "Shit", i'm over it.

    I use to have a lot of respect for PC Gamer, this review left a bad taste in my mouth. I've seen them score FAR worse games with a higher rating.

    Anyone at RTW shouldn't feel disappointed by this review. He simply needs to go play counterstrike for a while, and let the blood boil.

    I think the PCGamer reviewer had some fair points. APB is pretty "confused," and I think it probably should've been delayed to work out more of the kinks (e.g., the driving, randomly poor matchmaking where you end up fighting four people and there's no option to call for backup, etc.). It's not completely broken, and there's plenty of fun to be had - I personally love the game despite its flaws - but it's pretty hard to dismiss the obvious frustrations a lot of players are having as being "noob" problems.

    I bought the game mainly on my opinion of its potential (and the character customization), and I think as long as RTW doesn't completely fuck up, there will probably be improvements to the gameplay and general stability down the road. At any rate, I've been having fun.

    Well, they are. There's very little depth to any of them, as would probably be expected of what is essentially a deathmatch game (I'm honestly not 100% sure why this has a monthly fee attached to it when there're only two maps you can play on [not counting Social District 'cause it's so small and you can't shoot anyone] and it's not even a proper MMO). Anyhow, the fun you get out of the missions is mainly that it's just awesome to drive around with four people, slam head-first into the enemy and go flying all while the others are still hanging out of your window blowing shit up.

    I have to agree with Noel. I love the game, it's great, but it's flaws are numerous and game play lacking in any serious depth. There doesn't seem to be a real drive to get people into clans and actually respond to back up etc. This game feels like a beta right now. I'll still be playing and paying though. Hopefully they come out with patches before it's too late. They also need some game managers because the Zombie NA Social District is getting a lot of gold farming spammers.

    hmmm why is this game so big? I think the fair use on my broadband is 10GB and this download is 7.5GB and will take 12 hrs to come through! guess I better tell my broadband provider they arent really providing a realistic service and if I have to upgrade I will.

    it's not your ISP, the game downloads very slowly. I was at 30k for most of it. Took about 20hrs I think.

    ah that seems about right, so I got to play for a few hours today and Im suitably impressed love the characters and the citys and cars, not as impressed by the combat the lag is killing the game for me and often I will only just begin a firefight see a guy move jerkly across the pavement for 2sec and be dead.

    The other downside is that missions are a bit confusing as it seems to just let my group leader choose the missions for me and the missions dont seem to have any order or progression its just one random mission after another without any overarching purpose :/.

    Is it? From the reviews I've read I've heard the game isn't all that, nice on the visuals lite on the content. People were always saying that it was like GTA but online I personally never had that impression.

    I've tried the game out and personally the driving and shooting mechanics aren't all that great. I'm just saying this as an honest gamer who loves playing games and won't be shy to say what I think. If they put in all that time on the character customisation they could've done the same for the game play which is more important in my opinion.

    I'm not trying to flame or troll just being honest about a game that has the potential to be really good.

    As an online game developer I had realistic expectation for this game, I've been having a blast. I've found it's more enjoyable if you play with friends with good VOIP communication.

    Seems like a phenomena of subscription based games, people don't just dislike a game they have to convince everyone else how bad it is. I didn't like Dragon Age *shrug* I don't get angry at people who do like it.

    Well if you want an honest opinion on the game you might be surprised.

    I actually enjoy APB quite abit, once you get access to the wider assortment of weapons the balance is pretty good. Most every gun has it's rock paper scissors like counterpart, so a well balanced and coordinated group can really wreck people as they can handle any situation.

    Though in 1 v 1 I'll switch weapons if I notice I'm being out gunned. For example the mp5 can out damage the ntec close range, but not the auto shotgun. The ntec can out damage the auto shotgun by keeping yourself mid range and crouched. The ntec will not outdamage a burst fire sniper rifle at mid range most of the time. etc etc

    Of course things change quite abit when more people are thrown in the mix. Some weapons work really well when your in groups rather than going it alone. Certain skills and equips give you (and the people in your group) the ability to reload and change weapons.

    I've found car handling really varies from car to car. For example the micro is very sensitive and I need to steer by tapping the directional buttons when needed, but that makes it excellent for quick maneuvers. Other ones require holding directional keys down to make wide turns.

    I think the game has it's flaws, the matchmaking system for instance can be pretty unbalanced, and I think people should have access to a wider assortment of weapons early on so they don't immediately get owned by someone who happened to purchase the mp5 before they did. The cover system needs work and the fact that their are no hit boxes means that shooting someone in the foot is about the same as shooting them anywhere else. Also I don't like being killed when a car barely touches me or in the air if I try to jump over (collision mesh?).

    Yes, I agree it needs work, but I've had a few nights where I've played it till the sun came up. It's fun for me, honest. :)

    The release of APB went really smooth and rolled out nicely, now we can devote time to addressing the little problems and growing the game like was always planned. Building on a solid base! It has a lot of potential and I'll be working crazy hours until we get there!
