Looks good, I like the band in the middle, makes it look more profesional. However I would fatten the bottom out a little bit if I were you. So this is going to be a "paperboy" weapon pack or something like that?

The rubberband around it looks a bit loose to me. Other than that I think it's really nice.

I agree about the sounds (although the demoman's axe does use the bottle sound...) but I don't think the solid paper will be a problem.

You could have the newspaper wrapped around something dangerous (like a baseball bat). That would fit the existing model/animations and look unique and TF2-ish.

edit: Something else to think about: one of those triangular folded newspaper caps kids might make.

Related to the theme: the comics page/bicycles/Dennis the Menace. Just some great potential there. Also, he could throw a newspaper-wrapped rock with the newspaper-wrapped bat (like the Sandman).

For the cap, I think that one might be a little too modern for TF2, since it plays in 1968. Something like this would be more fitting, I think.

I disagree, I did some research and the modern baseball cap has been around for a long time. It is actually called the "Brooklyn Style" cap which became popular in the 40s

Also the hat you mentioned is basically the scouts current hat.

I love the newspaper, just adding some jigglebones to the sides of the paper or something would be nice. Besides that it's very complete looking. Can't wait to see what else you produce!

I made a higher resolution texture from scratch using that TF2 texture tutorial. I think it looks way better now.

I still need to fix it clipping into the hand though.

I wouldn't worry too much about that since they'll probably take your weapon and make it into a new category with a hand that fits it.

I added a second band around the roll, and made it so it fits in the hand better.
The band will obviously be team colored, I'm not sure if it is TOO red.
Also I made a world model that is symmetrical to itself in case valve wants to add an ability to throw the newspaper.

yeh yeh ....lose some contrast on the text ,,,,and add about 2% noise in P.S. the skin textures all have a tad. it'll match the hand better

I'd also suggest putting something solid hidden (poorly) inside the paper, for two reasons--firstly, to explain how it flips so neatly when tossed; secondly, to explain how being hit with it would hurt at all instead of wafting across their craniums like the gentle breeze of a butterfly's wing.

Yea, the bright yellowness is a bit of a turn off. Making it team colored with some yellow in it seems like a good idea.
