vid looks good but did it really need to be a minute long of the same thing over and over?
I kept waiting for you to run out of the room and actually use one of those things, and instead your team lost the cap point:poly122:
Yeah, the yellow doesn't go with the scheme of things. Makes him look like he's going to work at McDonalds, a bit :S but otherwise, lookin' cool, that shotgun is wicked
The icecream cone is a decent idea. His hand doesn't seem to be holding it perfectly though, maybe make the cone part a bit longer like a waffle cone. It'd be cool if it had sprinkles on it and when he flips it around there's a particle effect of sprinkles flying off (like the bonk spilling particle effect).
Yeah well I think VALVe would deal with getting rid of the bonk particle effect. The ingame models are just proof of concept. VALVe puts all the models in game from my understanding. I'll look more into it though.
Spruced and team colored. I just gotta unwrap and bake and maybe throw on some tassles. I never worked with jiggle bones, but right now its 7.5k tris I don't think the tassles will add that much more. It should be known that the shotgun shells are the exact same ones from the FaN only they are 75% of their size. Same texture too.
Just a minor gripe... it looks like the grip is attached directly to the drum, which is nonsensical as the grip needs to remain in place while the drum needs to rotate. Perhaps you could add a piece connecting the grip to the barrel? Like a bracket or something?
One other thing... on the newspaper. I think the idea was that it had a lead pipe inside, right? How about having the corner of the newspaper folded or torn on top so a bit of the pipe is visible? Would avoid people going all like "Why is this newspaper making metal clanking sounds?"

This. The gun couldn't possibly function the way it looks now.
How about having a brake cable coming off the brake lever, connected to the bracket or whatever connects the handlebar to the barrel, and having a smaller gear coming off that? Basically, have it look like squeezing the brake lever turns a smaller gear that's connected to the cylinder's rear gear, causing it to rotate?
Edit: Something like a deraileur:
You could have a length of bike chain connecting the deraileur to the barrel.
And to make the barrel more visually interesting, what about some forks with shock absorbers on the sides? The kind with external springs? Like this but less modern-looking:
Does anyone know how do use the different channels on the texture to make different parts less shiny than others? Also can anyone point me to a good jiggle bone tut? I'd very much appreciate it.
Jiggle bones are fairly well explained on the VDC.
The spec map (or really, the phong mask) is black and white where white is the parts that shine most, and black don't shine at all. This b&w thing goes into the alpha channel of your diffuse texture.
So I added another video. This one has all the items. Now that everything is fleshed out, I can go back for some polishing. Any ideas would be appreciated
Paperboy
- Add lead pipe
- Properly Unwrap and bake
Ice Cream
- Add team colored sprinkes and possibly a team colored cherry/blueberry
- Spruce up texture to make it more waffle coney
- Make a custom sprinkle particle effect and sound
Tire Bite
- Possibly add more details to the gun
- Add team colored tassles with jiggle bones
- Make a blu texture
- Add an animation where the gear assembly spins while firing and reloading
- Adjust hand brake to attach to the reload animation bone
Suburban Turban
- Make some team colored textures. (red orange for red)
- I LIKE THE YELLOW DAMNIT
Paperboy
- Add lead pipe. IMPORTANT (imo)
- Maybe put some sort of reference to yourself or TF2 on the paper. Big opportunity for an easter egg on there.
Ice Cream
- Add team colored sprinkles and possibly a team colored cherry/blueberry (Great Idea!) Maybe strawberry sauce/bluish chocolate fudge?
- Make a custom sprinkle particle effect and sound (best idea ever)
Tire Bite
- Possibly add more details to the gun (maybe a baseball card taped above the gears so it gets hit by them and makes noise? Like on kids bikes. Could be team specific card with Scout's class portrait on it or something. Or a Saxton Hale baseball card.)
- Add an animation where the gear assembly spins while firing and reloading (IMPORTANT)
Suburban Turban
-Making team colored hats as an option for Valve is a good idea.
Does anyone know how to do team colors skins for a model? Do you do it in the .qc as well as a .vmt? I can't figure it out. I have this in the .qc but it didn't do much

Hmm that didn't work. I don't know if it is just the attached weapons in the model viewer. I can't really test it in game because I don't have any team colored scout hats. All I have is the Gibus and Bill's Beret. Unless that doesn't matter, I am at a loss.

It's very subtle, but the Bill's Hat is actually team colored.
Think of some references you want to see in game. The paper's name can be a ref to something too. You could even have different headlines/papers for the different teams.

I'll have a vid up shortly.

Also, I got it in game, just did it without textures to see how it looked:
As soon as I unwrap it, I'll get it textured in game.
This. The gun couldn't possibly function the way it looks now.
Now I just gotta do the blu texture..

The newspaper looks great in game, and that fact of getting beaten to death by a newspaper scares me...

^^^
i get that it is infact your item and you are able to do as you wish
but so many people have mentioned that they'd like to see the colour variations just incase
it's not too much hassle to do so what's the issue?
I never said I wouldn't. In fact, I said I would. It's just not a high priority, so I don't need to keep reading it.
Gawd I'll do it now jeese.
Here:
fixed it for ya'
don't tab any of the lines
don't put the file path, it is specified in the $cdmaterials line
and no extensions
It's very subtle, but the Bill's Hat is actually team colored.
Now I have some questions.
What is the best format for a weapon texture? As you can see, the letters get blocky on the model. Does it have to do with the mipmapping?
Additionally. What would you guys like to see for the headline of the newspaper?
BONK!
BOINK!
WAR!
SOMETHING ELSE?!
Let me know
Also, don't worry, this isn't the final texture as I will also be adding threads to the lead pipe.
it be a allusion!
I really don't want this to be blocky in game.
