Here's an interesting senerio...I spawned in low light into the supermarket...I saw a guy kneeling right nearby. I put three rounds in his head at close range. Picked up a few things, then went around the corner where he was kneeling and there was a guy dead with a win and assorted goodies, but then i realized wait what did this guy I shot have?...An M-16 and two mags...
Finally..poetic justice...at least for the victim.
**O.K... the M16, while fun, is a Zed Attractor...got it.
The Beta thing confuses me a bit. I installed one but still couldn't get on Beta servers even though I had the correct Beta version. Just to get it straight. I go here download an install the most recent file here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php Right?
If you're running it through Steam, you have to fuck around with the .exe filename, or do some launch option stuff in the shortcut, which is beyond my skill.
You can use a launcher to run it outside of Steam, which sets up the Arma2 beta paths up for you, but then you don't get any of the Steam overlay stuff.
Saying that, I think that this forced Arma2 beta install will probably force me to getting around to figuring out how to get it to work properly in Steam.
Mixing betas' with alphas'... yeah great idea. I found I couldn't get in a game with 93666, and had to roll back to 93586. May be you'll have to do similar Stinger88.
The state of the server naming doesn't help a lot, some of 'em running 1.6. labelled as 1.7. let alone what arma2 beta they run.
You are confusing arma version with dayZ version, it as a bit of a clusterfuck. But dayZ version numbers are displayed in the server name and what you see in the gui is the arma version.
I just saw something from arma 3, and it looks great and I really wish that the mod might end up on that one, refined.
It is rumored that DayZ ports into Arma3 without major problems. Bohemia reps also mention that lessons learned from DayZ are influencing the development of Arma3 itself:
I played for a few days before realising I could double-click on my pack and open it for more slots <facepalm>. Just managed to meet up with my friend last time I played then we had to log. Should be crazy from there.
I got on yesterday just to play for a little bit before I started my work. Bad idea ended up playing for about 4 hours.
Me and my buddy were attacked by two heavily geared guys. They thought it was only me so I kept fire on them while my buddy snuck around from behind and took them out. One of them had a tent so we took it north and spent about 30 minutes trying to put it down somewhere. Eventually found a way to place it and then it bugged out and spawned 30ish more tents in my inventory that then spread out across the ground, haha. They seem kinda pointless right now anyways, as the only place you can place them is wide out in the open, on dirt. anyone with binocs will be able to scan open fields for tents.
Right after that we went into a town and found an almost perfect condition truck. All we needed was a wheel and fuel, found both in the next town went back and fixed it up. Ended up driving around for awhile running over zombies before the engine blew up. Haha, it was fun while it lasted. Sad I lost so much gear in that explosion though. Next time I'll probably save it somewhere safe and go find engine parts, the engine was on red when we found it. I thought it would just brake down not blow up and we could hunt for the engine parts at that point.
Well now I am done and I went out in a blaze of glory. I went into the castle on a low population server (Dallas) and ran into the tower. No Zeds...good for me, some loot on the ground.
I saw a guy come down the stairs totally unaware i was right there pointing a gun at him.
Having been through this many times before i put 6 or 7 rounds into his body (even reloaded...He casually kneeled on the floor and headshot me.
I deserved to die after that, and I hope he enjoys the M16, but given how much calmer he was, he probably didnt need it.
So the Zombies and the Survivalists win, I lose....
I was using a MAK as i went indoors, I wanted to save M4 rounds since i was running low, but damn at only a few feet away he was an easy hit...really surprised me he didnt die.
...never thought he was a hack, but who knows....
Personally, if i had the knowledge and the codes, i would have gone right back in an A-10....lol.
Sounds like desync which some player/server combinations seems to suffer a lot from. Bring up the player-tab with "p" and check your own desync. I read a story about a guy who emptied a whole mp5 clip into some dudes back from only 5 ft away. The guy just slowly turned and fired 1 shot to the head with the mak and the mp5 guy died.
Sucks.
I've decided to give DayZ a break. Was eating far too much of my time up. Just running through woodland for hours and trying to find good servers is addictive enough!
Anyhoo. I was getting bored of playing as "the loner". You definately need to have a team to cover your back. It horrible getting killed just because someone accidently stubles upon your position.
Been playing with a bunch of friends and it's fun but dayum it's such a timesink, a lot better with a group of friends too, never had a game make me panic as much as this does, pretty cool.
Me and a friend got so fucked by a series of glitches that we haven't played in a few days. It was quite an awful experience. We both found some boss guns with a lot of ammo pretty quickly and he even found a GPS and night vision. Then randomly he just loses 9 clips of ammo for his new weapon. Then a bit later some Z's randomly get attracted to us from way too far away for no reason. Then in that fight we both got hit ONCE and got broken bones and passed out and were eaten. What a real sack of poop.
^ I stopped playing for a while as well due to stability issues. but according to my co-worker most of the stability issues have been sorted in the latest build.
Interesting thing last night with a friend. We were in Magilevko I think, ended up in a building, zombies were coming in both doors to the house (and thus both doors to the room). We took down a bunch (I was using the dinner bell, which brought more). Eventually realised we couldn't hold out so I panicked in a manly way and tried to throw a smoke grenade out the window. It landed 3 feet from me, I ran out the door and tried to leave the house, but several zombies were coming in, turned and saw more at the other door. I ran back into the room and amidst the smoke saw what seemed like rubble particles or something. Then realised there was a massive hole in the wall, so I ran through that and off into the countryside (friend was already dead).
I didn't realise smoke grenades could make holes in walls...
Quick question for you guys : A few co-workers and I are looking for some kind of online tool and/or website that would allow us to upload the map (huge image file) and comment/draw on it. Some sort of persistent collaborative annotation system if you will.
This could be super useful when some of us are playing alone and want to leave notes on where they logged out, got killed, found some good loot, other groups of survivor, bandits, etc.
Man I had a loooong dream about this game last night. You know something must be up when I haven't even played this game and I'm starting to have dreams about it!
i bought the game today, instaled everything, but everytime i'm about to joing the game i get a never ending loading screen? anybody have a solution for this?
yea I am having the same issue, was able to connect to a couple servers, but half the time it wont connect, or connects and then proceeds to stay at a black loading screen with the sound of the ocean playing....super frustrating.
yup, you need the ARMAII beta installed, the .exe copied over the regular OA.exe, and enable beta launch options in both steam and six launcher[if you're using it]
"In Episode 8, we decide to head south together and hunt bandits before the upcoming patch removes the bandit skins (back in May, survivors who had multiple "murders" became "bandits", complete with a custom outfit that told everyone that they were dangerous)."
Is there a way to look inside your pack without examining a body/stash? I died earlier because I was bleeding out and couldn't get to the bandages in my pack. It opens when I double click when examing a stash, but doesn't when I just open inventory and try.

Does this mean the close-by VOIP is working ingame, now?
I believe it does if you have the ArmaII beta patch installed. It's going to be required for the next Dayz patch so you might as well get it.

Version control. He needs it.

Do you just need matches and wood to start one for cooking meat?
Does it do anything to keep zeds away?
PS. Awesome Adam

"Demon Goat! Finish him!"
You'll see the item counts on the left when you open your pack, and you can load them up on your person when you move them over to the right column.
