thanks bifrost! Are you working with NDO2? Looks very nice!
Defined the stomach-part a bit and worked a bit on the hair and facial expression. would be great to get some c&c on the anatomy!
I think it's actually sold (as a plastic casting) under the name "planes of the head" but colloquially it's named the asaro head, after the original artist - John Asaro.
Someone on the forums here posted some really great shots of a ceramic version, I think about a year ago.
Glode: Thanks for the tips! I had another go today using your advice and here's what I got (rendered in UDK),
It's one small(ish) 900-triangle mesh copied/pasted/rotated/translated 3 or 4 times per formation. Definitely the best rocks I've done to date, although I haven't spent much time on the texture; rock base, AO, highlights and normals. I'll have to experiment with detail normals and vertex blending for painting on moss and dirt. Again, thanks for the tips!
*sigh* I can't keep up with this thread. Less than 7 days and 13 pages. My brain and eyes hurt going through all of that. lol
Choco - Loving the colors man! Would love to know where you get skies like that. I would love to make a cubemap out of one.
Here is a WIP. Base polypaint textures, no spec... Doing some SSS tests in 3point. Still need to plug a translucency map in... but I feel it is getting there.
I think this study is done. Those are some shots of Maya's viewport. But feedback is always appreciated. 510 tris, 512 texture.
Nice texture work there, have you tried reducing the texture size? I think it would look as good at a 256x256. Also both halves of the shield look very similar so you could get away with mirroring them to save some serious UV space. (I made the same mistake with my a shield I made!)
Just a bit of faffing and you can really optimize that piece

nice hand painted shield...my only personal critique is that you should try adding a strap on the back of the shield so it looks like a legitimate shield item....this is my personal opinion tho and the shield does look good....im trying to practice hand painting too
@choco....if thats a hand painted skydome that looks REALLY REALLY good....im starting to find real life skydomes alot less appealing compared to hand painted ones
The "devil" the Tim Curry played is called The Darkness. Love that movie though.
Ah thanks for clearing that up. It's been forever since I've seen that movie, yet The Darkness is an iconic character whose image has stuck in my mind.

No worries man, it came out looking good . Glad the advice helped!
barnesy and supaclueless: Thanks guys. I seems it's not complete yet, then. Later I'm gonna start a thread to practice hand painted stuff, and so, I'll go back on this shield.
I thought I'd start documenting my progression from noob to less of a noob with a blog! That way other noobs can become less of a noob using my how to become less of a noob, for noobs... blog. Made my first actual blog post today, it's on material definition, it's pretty nooby, and bloggy, check it out! http://martindonald.tumblr.com/
Working on a residential Air Conditioner for a school assignment, got the high poly nearly complete, low poly and texturing will be done later this week.

trying to get that darksiders feel again....last speedy failed
Made some more progress on the tree and tweaked some lighting and post processing settings. Thanks for all the tips!
Wireframe plz! Awesome work!
Does that have anything to do with Tim Curry's portrayal of the devil?
Instantly reminded me of it. Either way, good work!

Flowers looks imho too close to each other (like blocks of flowers). Maybe try to spread them a little
That's awesome sculpt Dan! he deserves to be made into full character :poly142:,btw what happened with your Mutant League entry ??

If you were going for the most disgusting creepy thing I have ever seen I think you nailed it.
here is my second attempt at doing stylised sky domes :
Still need to work on the lighting a bit later on.
The "Many" has you?
One of those games that's on my bucket list.
