Don't want to make new thread. Quick question about baking normal map.
I have cylinder (low and high poly). Low poly has one smoothing group.
Why normal map doesn't show cylinder's smoothness (horizontal-wise)?
Working on something new, started blocking out everything for the low poly version. Still need to make some weapons etc. and then I'l start on the high poly..
so yea as usual heaps of awesome stuff haha i feel bad about posting now but anyways this was a quick sculpt (round about 2 - 3 hours) i havnt sculpted in about a month so trying to get motivated again.
Finished this up at work today it's for a training simulation for amputee soldiers who will go on drive this thing for real in rallies and such! Any crits greatly appreciated.
Combat Hovercraft WIP - just finished first AO and Normal bake of main body
Seems like you just took a texture and cut and pasted it on top of your model without any regard into how the actual reference is constructed. The bag should have separations, each then would be attached through some stitching. On top of that, the stitching detail is too large and the AO is overdone. Really look at your reference and dissect how its made, and then recreate your model. Good luck
I still haven't sorted out a lighting set-up as of yet, as Maya keeps crashing whenever I try to add a second UV set to the rug for lightmaps (As evident mainly in the last image).
I have altered the texture colours to more closely mimic the original scene.
As well as this, I wasn't happy with the way that the wallpaper met the ceiling, so I modelled the ceiling separately and extracted the wallpaper as a copy of the wall mesh. With this I added some peeling effects to make it a bit more realistic.
I also put hot emmissive texture effects on the fireplace and the stove using texture painting in addition to reworking the fabric texture on the chairs.
Can anyone also point me in the right direction to set up some decent UDK shaders for this hand-painted style?
Cheers all and keep on being awesome!
well my work is not as impressive as most of yours but here are some screen shots of some models that i did for the game that i am currently working on called Robot Universe
let me know what you think, note they are all work in progresses
First real high poly model I'm making, not going for in-game right now so the edges are pretty sharp, just practicing. IF I do finish it I will soften up the edges...

Here is some progress on my empty sci-fi industrial environment:
I really like this style suprisingly, it's super dirty and has very little focal point, but I like it, it slightly reminds me of a nar shadda from Star Wars knights of the old republic II. What are you going to fill this with and do you have a thread?
mospheric: Nice! That TV reminds me so much of my Grandmother's old set. VHS marathon of Woody the Woodpecky FTW!
BitGem: Those guns are slick, dude! Really Cool.
osk, kaktuzlime, choco, maze, Sean, RopRoy, tsabszy , aajohnny. All of you guys - Great Job! .. and that's just from the last few pages. Man, this thread has a way of leaving me in the dust. I'm gonna have to take an afternoon just to get caught up!
I am currently drawing up basic plans for the inside of a space ship (inspired from the internal sections from Mass Effect and Halo 1).
Also am working on a interactive webcomic for College.
Wow Kyle, that door has an awesome style to it! Was WoW's Mists of Pandaria an inspiration by any chance? Looks like it could fit right into the game.
As for me, I created a flying frog creature for a student game I'm working on. I modelled, textured, rigged it (oh the horror) and have been animating it, here's what I have so far :
On my to do list are the melee attack, special move, spawn and death.
In hindsight, I wish I gave him less frog-anatomically-correct eyes, it's hard to get much expression out of his face. But hey at least I have "derp" covered.

Really cool! Good job.
Also working on some nerf/warhammer lowpoly guns...
looks awesome. at first glance i thought that was a sculpt with an outline shader. XD
Still have the nozzle, safety mechanism, nail track, and nails to model.
sure!
I'm sure they could be more optimized in some places... like the muzzle on the left one... anyway here they are
The fun parts over

*slightly edited color...
Why is his horn so much less polished than his face?
I could accept it as finished if the focal areas were completely realized, but they aren't.

Made some progress on this guy:
Mostly textured in Mari, with a little bit of tweaks in Photoshop.

Awesome as always! Love the hand crafted look to his gear, lots of fun.
Kyle -- Damn! Someone knows how to use them gradients, the door is phenomenal! Great work.
