Yummy. I just had a look at that Kotaku link. Despite looking slick and modern the trailer really has that 70's vibe. Also, shots like this one, look exactly like H.R. Giger's art.
I really hope that Ridley Scott can pull this off. I can't say I was very impressed by his post Blade Runner films.
Kingdom of Heaven looked like a renaissance painting at times.
The theatric cut was not as good, but the director's version added enough story to make it an OK film at least.
I dunno, gladiator and black Hawk down were pretty good films. Body of lies was pretty good too. I have kingdom of heaven directors cut on blu but have never watched it haha. I would say robin hood was one of his weakest films though for sure, left a sour taste in my mouth.
Idk if they're "canon" but if I remember correctly, the Alien comics already expanded a whole lot on who/what the space jockeys are so I dont really feel that this movie is gonna be spoiling some great mystery...
I seem to remember a clip showing a really tall guy walking through a hall and assumed it was a human who is exposed to something and ends up genetically altered before getting into the Jockey-suit.
Yeah that's why I said it, currently those are dinky small toys, but by 2023 we'll definitely have proper hefty ones capable of carrying a full size camera

It's fully viable, but like with most futuristic things today battery technology is still not as far as we'd wish.
There just isn't enough power to keep things afloat and fully powered long enough.

to be honest earlier shots posted here made me think that this would be a more atmospheric low key film rather than a CG fest.
i guess i can still hope that the trailer doesn't represent the amount of the generic spectacular action crap in the movie.
still, plot does look a bit cliche. ancient ruins, silly ignorant expeditions, waking up ancient entities... bleh.
But then again the main value of the movie probably lies in those awesome environments based on giger's work.
anyone else going on an Alien/s marathon before they go to see this?
Will be picking up the blu-ray anthology before to watch them again. So liking the idea of learning about more of the world it's set in. Lots of darkness hopefully.

I wonder though, if the casual film-going audience realizes what this movie is and the universe it takes place in. Obviously people that frequent sites similar to this one are, but for average joe that happens to see this on tv or in the previews at a theater, I wonder if they will and if that might hurt the popularity of the movie if they don't spell it out at some point.
I love how much of what was originally envisioned (breast-shaped pyramid, hieroglyphs, etc) for Alien back in '76 is being worked into this. For someone who was hyped for the original back then and soaked up all those references, this has me very interested.
Shame Dan O'Bannon and Jean Giraud (Moebius) aren't around to see it...
This is looking totally sweet. Though honestly it's been a long time since I've seen all the Alien movies and I was pretty young at the time. I remember some of the later ones being pretty lousy. So if I go back and watch a few which ones would be most relevant to get a refresher on this universe?
It certainly looks spectacular. Scott is an incredibly gifted visual film maker who unfortunately has a habit of choosing the worst material to focus his talents on.
Trailer is looking good. Not as intriguing as the previous though. I think the trailer gave far too much of the plot away
I just discovered us UK folk are getting the film a week earlier than Americaland - I was starting to get worried that no news on a release date meant they were going to do a Disney and release it six months later (and people wonder why people pirate films?)

Make sure the very first thing you do after reading this post is to get Alien somehow and watch it.
Aliens is highly recommended as well; Alien 3 has been ruined by the studio, but it still has a lot of Fincher's touch.

But oh boy some of those shots look wonderful...
Let's hope that this time he'll ask for royalties instead of a salary! Poor guy didn't earn anything from the Alien design.
Also those camera drones. Those are totally happening by 2023
they already kinda exist

So that is one tall guy, he must be 8 foot tall.

Now, now. There's no need to bring maths into this.

I just finish watching all alien movies, last weekend:)
Will miss out the AvP ones though ;3

Is it just me, or did this trailer feature waaaay more reverse video shots than usual? I couldn't help but notice 3 or more, really stood out...
Not that it matters at all, because this looks to be one of the best films of the year. Can't wait.
Jeffro, I too am curious if an art of book is in the cards. I'm a sucker for those things!

Thanks for saving me 20 seconds, but you just cost me 20 bucks
