i think this is going to be amazing...been getting quite blase about most SFX recently but that was awsome... the shot with the ship descending against the cloud bank and the starkness of the graphite colour tone...
O man that trailer looks awwweeesooome, the visuals look so nice. That shot with the ship and the clouds was so sexy. He said there'll be no xenos but that doesn't mean there won't be any pre-xenos
Y'know it wasn't actually a secret right? When they announced it Prometheus was supposed to be a straight-up part 1 of 2 prequel to Alien, which evolved into it's own thing. Still in the same universe and leading up to that ABSO_FUCKING_LUTLEY awesome '79 trailer, but focusing on the planet and the ship now instead of the Xeno's.
yea i dled the 1080p off apple and slowly scrubbed through it, saw stuff like the head on the table, that dude standing next to the chair in that above posted shot, looks too big to be a human, and some guy with a fucked up face lunging at someone. I love how much they are keeping under wraps story wise.
I love love LOVE how Prometheus still has that 70's-80's sci fi movie x factor. I don't know what it is but i feel like i'm watching a trailer for an 80's movie but with better cameras and hair. I'm so glad ridley scott recaptured that essence we all fell in love with.
I think it might be that he's using yah know.....sets and not green screen all over the place.
Yea the trailer looks great - too bad this movie will end up destroying the mystery of the space jockey from Alien.
I really wish this existed outside the Alien canon/universe. Oh well.
Nah, I've always wanted to know what the space jockey was. Hopefully the writers come up with an adequate explanation that maybe retains some of the mystery but answers a few questions. That image alone was a great premise for a movie.
I get what they were doing with the text in the trailer, but it didn't work, I just wanted to see the damn footage.
Agreed. It was a great callback to Alien for people who remember, but that trailer had the text up at the top and out of the action. I had trouble concentrating on the Prometheus trailer (well, until I went full-on nerd and downloaded the 1080p version to go through frame-by-frame ) The Alien-esque audio cues were a great touch as well. Ridley Scott is so great with the details.
Hopefully the writers come up with an adequate explanation
That's exactly why I am worried about it. It just has that weird Star Wars prequels / Matrix sequels feel now - forcing explainations 'making sense' out of things left delightfully open in the original movies. Not everything needs to be explained, and leaving the space jockey alone would be best, I think. To me it gave that eerie feeling that even badass otherworldy species can be taken down by the aliens. It was awesome!
Anyways - there's also the possibility that the space jockey part will be just a nice little background touch in Prometeus too, with the trailer making it more important than it really is in the actual movie
They can always go down the LOST route. Whenever they explain something, they just toss 2 more mysteries at you. So every time you learn something, there's even more you wanna know about.
It's like being on a paper ship in the bottom of a bucket. They fill the bucket up with water, and you start floating to the top. Only when you actually get there you see that you were inside another bucket all along. Then that one gets filled with water, and sure enough, when you get to the top you find out you're in yet another bucket... and so it continues.
Or they may just not do anything and simply explain everything until the franchise is lucas'd.

The music is right out of the earliest trailers for Alien too. Brilliant.
It's weird to NOT be.
Interesting to see how much the Prometheus Trailer actually pays hommage to the original Alien Trailer.
made by much ancient civilization?
