12 came out a few days ago, some pretty interesting stuff about being a freelance artist about midway through, also about methods for researching studios before interviews, all good stuff!
Just a reminder, you can find youtube, vimeo and mp3 downlaods for all episodes at http://crunchstudios.com/ I know some places don't like streaming vids.
I've watched every single one of these videos. It's strange I thought they were much more popular but the view counts are pretty low. Are you guys on other sites like cgtalk and gameartisan?
LRoy: Most views come from audio downloads (MP3) as a lot of folks can't stream from work. So yea, the youtube views aren't that great. I mostly pimp to social stuff like g+, twitter, facebook. So please feel free to post it on all kinds of sites, everyone everywhere. If it gets 1000 views, Bryan will take his shirt off!
Just thought I should pop in and say that I've been listenig to you guys since episode 4 or so. Happy to see that you're bringing fellow polycounters in. Somehow, I always imagined you Justin as a much meaner looking guy :poly142:
Unless your situation requires advanced knowledge of rapist animals and their genitalia, obscure and dangerous alcohol, weaponry, asian girls or skankerzero's underwear - give #21 a miss.
if ever anyone has any topic suggestions or questions they want us to cover, post them here.
Podcasts are great, but we really want to help you guys out. It can feel like we're covering the same topic over and over, or giving the same advice over and over, so any questions or suggestions are always welcomed.
Either way, I hope that at least the ones I've talked on have been entertaining.
Here's to more fun!
Lol...Drunkcast! Get 4 guys drunk and it'll always follow a similar fomulae.
Men + drink =
"I'm drinking beer"
"yeah but, i'm drinking stronger beer"
"once I drank this super strong beer"
"check this out. tequilla with a snake and a scorpion in it"
"whoa, im gonna buy some of that shit!"
"yeah, and I bought this awesome telescopic night stick"
"cool, But I've got this awesome rambo knife that cuts paper effortlessly. I tell people its a camping knife though"
"ah, but have you seen my Glock?"
"Whoa...awesome!, but you havent seen my AK47 vodka bottle that comes in an awesome gun case"
"dude!...thats friggin awesome"
"So....who here has dated an asian chick?"
I cant tell you how many times i've had this conversation... ;P
Just joshing, Was fun listening. Gave me a laugh at work.
My question for a future cast:
I have 2 major projects (very) slowly bubbling away outside of my work. One is an indie game that myself (artist) and a friend (coder) are working on, and the other is an illustrated childrens book.
I'd be interested to hear if any of you guys have worked on an indie game/s and how it went, etc. Also if any of you have any experience with illustration for books of any kind and what that market is like. Have you had anything published, etc
If none of you have any experience with any of that. I'd be interested to hear about other work outside of "studio" games that you guys have been a part of.
I don't know about any specific topics, but my favorite sections of the podcasts are when you guys just kick back and talk shop and share your old 'war stories'
I havent listened to all of your casts, so this may have been touched on, but how about a topic dealing with stress as a new guy, the transition from becoming a hobbyist/student to a valued professional. What are ways of making the most out of your time as the new recruit, and how to deal with new challenges and unexpected hurdles without years of experience. Some people I know, including myself, feel they should have all the answers, and when they dont they feel like theyre incompetent or unqualified for the job. How do you guys deal with on the spot problem solving, an ability which seems to be such a major role in game development?
Hey guys, a few episodes ago Chris mentioned in a demo reel that he'd like to see camera fly throughs of an environment. My question is would the guys rather see them from the player perspective through a First Person perspective, or Third Person using something like Matinee in UDK?
Just watched the latest. thanks skanker for covering the topics I asked about.
Just a thought. You guys should do a section in the show for website/artwork/portfolio/demoreel/"indie"games/Mods/etc critique. People sumbit a link to their work and you guys select 2-3? per cast and discuss whats good and bad about whatever it is. Personally I love having my work ripped to shreads as it draws attention to where I need improvement.
If something like this does happen though please link the work so the listeners can view what you are talking about.
Yeah, i'm not sure the portfolio crit thing worked so much. I think that any work thats critiqued has to be linked to (if it is somewhere, sorry, I missed it), else we don't know what you're talking about. Also you guys sort of didn't say much about the portfolio itself, and kinda went on to talk about what should and shouldn't be in portfolios in general. Which is cool and is probably a crunch cast topic from the past/future but you didnt do much on the work submitted.
Just a suggestion: Maybe a good way to do this would be that you guys selects one submitted work EACH. BEFORE the casts and give a more individual critique rather than a group thing. With the other guys giving additional comments toward the end of each critique.

edit:
derp, I meant Justin of course.
fun fact: my head is gigantic and most hats don't fit.
HAHAHAHAHA
Never wear pants Jesse
I'll wear extra special boxers for the next one.
my net has a transfer limit so i'd rather watch only the stuff that's most relevant to my situation.
So for now all the drunkcasts, weedcasts and acidcasts are at the bottom of my schedule.
we've shared that special bond of grappling on a mat trying to legit choke each other out
