funny enough, i listened to that one yesterday, and what they were talking about regarding bad smelling food in the office happened at the studio im at the same day. lol. someone decided to heat up some fish, and the smell made everyone start gagging.

Heh. A couple years ago I saw this survey that determined the like "Top 10 things you do to annoy your coworkers" and I clearly remember number 1 was stinky food. I couldn't believe it. But it was no.1. Since then I always notice it. Either its annoying food. Or the food smells good and makes me hungry - which can suck if I want to stay later but I want to eat at home (healthy) but I smell the food in the office which makes me freak out and just leave to go get my own.
I'm not sure we have any kind of sword fish in the rivers here in Australia, Chris. Sounds like one of those stories we tell the tourists. Like the drop bears - those things don't kill nearly as many people as the rumours would have you believe.
1. "What are your views on Anti-Piracy measures, not just the extreme DRM spectrum?"
For example users still get to play the game but constantly have a punishment modifyer on that changes the gameplay from that of what a legit player would have. aka, drunk mode, bounce off walls etc.
2. "Internships, from both perspectives."
What's your views on it from a dev point of view, it's Free labour but how do we make it sound pretty lol.
Keep on Crunching!
I really liked the episode you had James Smith show us some of his work flow inside UDK.
Severe lack of modding backgrounds lol, you should make an episode called the "modcast". Modding is the whole reason I got into game art. Quake engined games represent! I miss those days of messing about in radiant, thinking of weird ways to change the gameplay, weapons, making hoverboards. Creating new villages in morrowind with custom dialog for townfolk etc. Spawning stormtroopers into various elaborate killing devices lawl.
I'd be interested to hear about the stuff you guys did on the mod scene, like Crate_DM sounded brilliant lol.
Biggest issue with the mod scene now-a-days (which is why I think modding has died down a fair bit... or more so, finished mods) is because everyone is going for super high quality total conversions. Since we now have access to all these amazing engines (not to mention the quality bar these developers are setting) it seems like the community / mod devs expect to hit that quality as well, and it sucks
Seemed like there was something so pure about modding quake / doom etc. I was exposed mostly to the character modeling / texture side of things when it came to those games, but when Source came out, I think it struck a happy median.
Modders were becoming more ambitious with their ideas, but there was also this visual quality that (personally for me) was "friendlier" to hit for hobbyists / people who wanted to get into the industry.
Fast forward to now, and you see these mod teams trying to hit current / next gen quality with about 1/10th of the team size they need to actually get the game done. Not to mention, the focus on UBER GRAPHICS and nothing else (such as actually getting working game mechanics first) is sad to see.
I wish I had the chance to experience what it was like to mod in quake days, more so in Source days (when it was truly thriving), since these days the mod scene is just full of DOA total conversions.
Just wanted to say thank you. This is just what I need to stay motivated and increase my knowledge, especially since I'm just starting out. You guys rock.
I was so tickled to hear talk about modding the sims, that's where I started Well, that and trying to wrap my head around hexing Petz Breedz, if anybody remembers what THAT was xD
Just watched the latest episode! My first time seeing this (though I had heard about it before, just never really knew what it was), and I have to say it was extremely informative, and the humor keeps it doubly interesting xD Funny to see you guys in 'real life' - I had imagined everyone pretty differently! Also, I was really pleasantly surprised by the mention :) Thanks Jesse!!
Going through them all now while I work, to fill my noob brain with the goodness of veteran advice xD Definitely gonna be sharing this too! Keep it coming guys.
Been listening for a while - really enjoy it. I'm definitely more interested in "jaded" vets shooting the shit - but can appreciate more technical talk and n00b chat
Sounded like you live in my laptop/ opposite side of our dining table where i work. It's so clear. What's the term for it? Hi-fidelity?
Care to share the mics or sound mixers you guys are using? I'm interested in building my own voice recording kit someday (planning to voice my own animation projects).
Ya, Id love to know what programs you guys use to record all your stuff, and edit it and what not.
Good info in #34. Ive definitely done the over stay your welcome thing before. I feel most people have at the start, because they get excited and think, ok, i need to be remembered, so im gonna talk to this guy alot so he remembers me.
Ive had some awkward moment before with a recruiter. Walked up to him cause I knew he was a recruiter and the guy to know. said hi, and then completely blanked on what to say. So I brought up his kids, since it was the only thing I knew about him from facebook / twitter. It got awkward real fast. haha. But he was a cool guy, and he saw me at a show a few weeks later, and emailed me after saying he saw me and hoped i had a good time and what not. So that was good. lol
A question for Crunch Cast, I am currently a student in Canada, but I have dual citizenship in Europe and plan to work there at some point in my life as a 3D artist. The catch is thatI am engaged and my fianc
Great cast guys, I quite liked this one I LOVE the idea of going around and getting little snippets from people of advice and whatnot. I honestly can't imagine you'd ever be able to pin some people down for an hour to do a full cast.
I think I also did the overstaying your welcome thing. I went to an IGDA meet up in Houston and I started talking to an AD and an artist at TimeGate Studios. I must have asked them a million questions about what they look for in a portfolio and how to get into a tech artist role. Looking back, I probably looked like an ass but I was excited to get advice from pros and I got a lot of good information out of the deal.
so some friends and i have had a situation that would fall under the category of "what would you do" death scnearios that we find to be quite funny.
Suddenly you realize that your on a frozen lake. Your wearing ice skates and your being pushed towards the edge of a frozen waterfall, by a truck that is so wide you cant possibly get around. What do you do?
and another one..
someone starts fighting another guy with sockem boppers and they franticly start hitting each other until one of them gets knocked unconscious and the other starts throwing water baloons at the unconscious one until they drown
Hey, awesome podcast. I just started listening to this a week or two ago, and I'm already caught up lol. Great stuff, can't wait for the next ep.
You guys have mentioned several times how you take notes a lot, and have tons of notepad files on your computers. There's an app that I started using a few months ago, and it's really really awesome and I think it would be perfect for you guys:
Basically, you make an account, and then you can access your notes from any computer, or iOS/android. So instead of having like a million notepad files, you can have them all cloud saved, organized MS Outlook style, and have access to them everywhere. It's been great for me because every time I see a cool portfolio, a good tutorial, some stuff I want to buy, etc, I just add it to Evernote. Then, when I need to find it, I can use Evernote's search to find it again. It's helped me a lot with organization, and I don't have to worry that I'll lose the text file because of a hard drive fail or something.

Feels good to hear some of my own thoughts/issues/concerns etc voiced out.

Thanks for having me on the CrunchCast, it was really fun! ask me back anytime!
Great cast guys
I knew in high school that Richard was long for Dick.
Put that in your resume.

Really dig it!
keep it up! I've got another 32 episodes to listen to.
Anyways. Would it be too much to ask you guys index the episodes, guests, and topic on the first page? Had no idea you got some of these guys talking.
I'm a bit surprised at what some of you guys look and sound like.
