Lovely stuffies! That horn thingy bugs me though. I kinda like the bunny ear variety more. It gives more of a forward movement feel of it. Perhaps to a combination. Perhaps to double frontal horn, sort of a gundam fashion?
Oh but still, it's so lovely. Grinding n stuff... so lovely.
small update, done with arms, this is almost over. The grapple arm needs some wiring and shielding, there's still a ponytail to be made, and a CHAINSAW omg.. I seriously doubt this will fit into 12k, so many separate objects, but I'll do my best.
This is a blockout keep in mind, the grapple arm assembly looks little bit retarded without all the meat
Yeah Vadim, it should be a challenge to fit it in to 12k, may be some cheating will help, like one side poly for chainsaw...
Coming along really nice, you have to add "BOBCAT" logo on the texture, to make it complete machine look Keep it up!
very, very cool. the only tiny piece that I'm not a fan of is the gorget piece, it feels a bit too big to me......however, I often talk nonsense.....top stuff
Excellent design!
The only thing that's bothering me is that the arm at full extension (bottom middle and right image) seems really fragile. I'm sure that with all the "meat" you're talking about it'll be totally fine but for now it's the impressions I have
nice dude i was wondering about more shielding going on there, it does look a bit dinky without more meat. but also it just looks fantastic when it is compacted... awesome awesome work on the claw blockout!
Hey Slipgate, your entry is most impressive. I am watching how you do your block out on vimeo and being a nub with hard surface I have a question about your customized tool pallet.
What exactly do you have set up at the top where your custom bar is?

I agree, and it's not finished yet, like I said, need some armor plates there, and extended grapple is extreme case, compact mode looks more balanced. I made this screen just to show it's working and can be extended to GRAB AND SQUEEZE THE SHIT!!!

It's the modeling tools I don't have shortcuts for:
append polygon
insert edge loop
create primitive cube and cylinder
crease edges
inset
transform components
Yeah this is why I'm trying to avoid curved surfaces, most of those details are flat and angular, which should help alot. At this point whole blockout is about 20k tris, will be like 25k at the end, but it's unoptimized mesh with tons of garbage that can be reduced greatly. Small pistons and wires could use square or even triangle profile shape. What bothers me is thickness of armor plates. Last time on N0X I avoided that, using 1-sided meshes with thickness rims, but I can't do that here due to restrictions.
The block out is coming along very nicely! I feel like his limbs are very thin at the moment, but I'm sure it will come out great in the end. go go go go!!!

sorry but this is no subject for discussion!

I'm loving that arm though man. Really awesome stuff.
It's looking great so far.
Best of luck!
