Nightmare is one of my favorite fighting characters of all time. Gonna make him with a little sci-fi twist. Who knows it might go too far and turn into something completely different. Don't feel like making a chick this time.
Awsome Nightmare has always been my favorit in Soul Calibur, I hope you dont mind I am going to do Nightmare as well but not doing the same idear, cant wait to see how yours turn out. good luck.
Thanks for support although I havent really started yet, can't force myself to get up from the couch (too much meat consumed), so instead I did a small research regarding this character.
So, what makes Nightmare a Nightmare? Despite some drastic changes to design that occured to him with each new sequel, there's always a few key features that remained almost untouched. Here
so could I try to replace those by some tech shit?
On serious note, I'm leaning toward more iconic and clean design (from 2nd game I believe), the top-left, because latest one from SC4 little messy and whole mid-section is missing, which I find disturbing
At this point I dont even know should I bother concepting, it's all right here, minor changes to silhouette and plate pieces to make him look more mech/robotic
Dude I challenge Cyber Nightmare to a duel with Cyber Chun Li when we are finished. Pose them up in a old school Mortal Kombat versus fighting Stance!!
Great Idea in terms of the research. I was doing the same but didn't think to lay it out as greatly as you did. I'm glad you're going with SC2 NIghtmare, he was the best. 3 was pretty good too though. Really excited about what you're doing.
made a quick rough blockout, some stuff is missing, like ponytail
this is already going far from original shape..hmm
but, this is just a sketch, more changes to come, done for tonight
And already you're kicking @$$ and taking names. You're an inspiration Slip, means I gotta wake up EARLY tomorrow and get to work on this contest. YEAH!
Holy shitsauce, now that is one tasty silhouette!
Not a big fan of the mouthpiece to be honest, takes away too much focus from the spike on his forehead.
The back could maybe use some more orange accents as well.
A question though, what is the purpose for a blockout? Is for you to get a basic idea of what you're going to do, or are you going to use this as a base mesh for sculpting?
Figured working like this actually faster, I just don't want to spend few days going anal with concept, though having a concept is always good. This is slightly different case because initial design is already there, all I need is to play with shapes.
This is not a basemesh though, blockout is to distribute masses, get some cool dynamic shapes and most important silhouette.
No one (sane) doubts your ability to greeble out the details to be drool-inducing, and your texture work is in my top 5 list, and I know this is just a first blockout... but!
But I think you need to push the silhouette more. It's kind of same-y in terms of diameter and thickness changes. I like it a lot, and see a lot of promise, and I'm sure you are planning to massage it more before committing to the final model, but I just want to add a +1 to pushing it to be more dynamic. I think the legs from front and side in particular (though those feet are rockin) and the assymetry of the shoulders, plus the profile width of the chest vs stomach.

Interesting, well keep it up, seems like you're on a roll. I can't really add much as far as critiques go, since I don't have the reputation or experience haha
So...I'll keep up with my mindless praising :P Go go go!

As soon as I saw the title I thought 'Hard surface sci-fi twist incoming!' :P

I mean this:
It looks cool in game, but I'd like to avoid this level of complexity. Though I fucking love the toes!!!
Disturbing in a non-nightmarish way?
I am really looking forward to what you do with it, I expect nothing short of spectacular!
Also, interesting profile pics you and FirstKeeper have. Any particular reason why?
Looks great
Good luck!

Keep rocking!

Just trying to an idea what a pro's workflow is
Also where's your penis avatar? lol

looks fantastic, you putting fear into other brawlers!
my quick rough blockouts look like cubes =(

Very cool still.
+1
UNLess.. we evolve... i mean, how hard can this be?
Shit hot slipgate! raise the bar... cannot wait.

it might be cool if you pushed the hand shapes even further in the direction of a giant shield silhouette.
Great silhouette n stuff
