Yeah, GFWL is a complete piece of s***, I had so many problems with it for GTA and for Arkham Asylum, that I'm not getting any game with that crap in it ever again. Especially if I get the game from Steam.
Ended up getting Dishonored this morning, should be ready when I get home from work....play play play.
Im waiting for a 75% cut on dishonoured. Christmas Im hoping.
Yeah, GTA IV had GFWL and some other social club crap, even when installing from Steam. And I never got it to work properly, I had to get a crack to get around the GFWL to be able to play and keep my saves.
A friend told me that GFWL actually doesn't even do anything when Steam is involved. I haven't tested it myself, so I can't confirm this, but I'll test it later on.
He says that with Batman, since the game supports Steam, if you ignore GFWL it'll still save your progress/achievements on the Steam cloud even though it warns you against it. I'll test that out later tonight, but if that's true that's an even greater degree of BS. Cause it means they slapped that thing on there for no purpose other than to annoy the shit out of paying costumers (since pirated copies won't have to deal with it anyway).

Believe it or not, you need GFWL installed to install the DLC for Arkham City.
On a brighter side, the two games I played most this weekend were Arkham City and The Witcher 2. And oh man I'm amazed at how far games have got.
I don't get to play games too often. The last time I played anything must have been a couple of years ago.
But these two... the quality is so high on these. The city in Arkham City is incredibly detailed. I was still expecting something that looks randomly-generated (even though it's not) from the Spiderman type of open-world games. But the level of detail and polish on the city was just incredible. It looks like an incredible amount of love went into that city. The animation and characters are incredibly well-polished too. It has the most fluid combat system and animation blending I've seen.
Same goes for the Witcher. Incredible art in that one. On the characters especially, they have the best material definition I've ever seen. Just the speculars alone in that game are an amazing piece of art. The world feels pretty massive, but doesn't feel like it suffers for it. And the lighting is incredible. It does get a bit bloom-happy at times, but it's not too bad.

I own only one GFWL game through Steam, and it requires me to log-in into LIVE to save/load.
Yeah, I had to do that nonsense with Bulletstorm I believe, and maybe some other game. It usually would crash on login too (though...I could still play the game, so I didn't mind)
The devs are still around, they're just choosing to work on instagram-like apps. They've abandoned development, but I guess they're not above trying to sell it in its current state.
ironbear: it can be alright for some, but it's buggy and unfinished. Shame, as they were on to something.
I'd recommend Voidworld as a replacement, although it's not as polished in the ui. It's still a beta, and I hope to help make it easier to get into for new people.
I want Dishonoured for 75% off and Dark Souls for 50%. A pack for all those Eidos retro games that have just gone on steam would be nice too. Everyone buy Soul Reaver so we get a sequel!
For a sandbox game its pretty unique, less guns, more melee, some "parkour" movement. The port feels like it was ported to pc with control issues, I don't know if it got fixed or not. If you love sandbox games, its probably worth looking into picking it up.
Okay so I was waiting for someone else to resurrect this thread again. They're having an insane two week long holiday sale with flash sales every 12 hours. (Dec 19th - Jan 3rd) It's definitely worth keeping an eye on. There are a lot of "Game of the Year" or "Deluxe" editions up there every day. Most games are 75-80% off.

Yeah, I finally picked up rogue legacy, Remember to support your indie titles people! their xmas dinner could depend on the sales :poly121:
I picked up Recettear to support the devs but I think that'll be it. I always end up buying a ton of games during these sales when in reality, I already have all the amazing games I could ever want to play right now.

I also had very little issues with GFWL with Asylum Yozora, will have to see if the same can be said for City. What John described sounds way worse.

I use Silo 2 everyday at work, it's really not that bad.
I wonder the same thing...
Hexagon 2.5 was given for free a long ago (bryce 7 pro and Daz Studio pro aswell).

I'm not going to buy the games on my small wishlist this xmas unless if they are under 5€.
My pokedex has more than 620 games already LOL

Godspeed folks.
Gonna try and do the badge system for fun this year
A warning, don't buy Fable 3. It was one of the buggiest PC games I have ever played.

And dungeon siege I / II.
Lol, I actually bought that because the version with all of the DLC is like $6.50. Same with Dishonored.
I also picked up Gone Home and Trine 2. It's amazing how far $30 goes.
Does the hd texture pack come automatically with the steam installation?
