Well, the fleur-de-lis is a symbol traditionally associated with the French monarchy... and gold is ever the metal of kings =P I would go with gold, yes. Good contrast to the Revolver and Ambassador, like the others have said.
Ok guys, I present to YOU, the newly remade "FLEUR DE" LIS"!
(Picture Omitted to Conserve Space)
You nailed the color, and the etching above the grip looks absolutely fantastic. The only problem is that with the old etching removed, the main part of the gun (that big gold rectangle) looks a little plain. I don't think you should put the old etching back- two etchings would be redundant, and the grip etching just looks too good to remove.
I have a potential solution... but I warn you, it makes a lot more work for you. I've already done that by pushing the lever action. So probably, you should disregard this- it is cool, I think, but it's a lot of work.
Here's the idea. I was thinking about how this run would actually operate- it doesn't have any obvious clip or cylinder, so how would it reload? Then (as a bit of a gun nut) I thought of an en bloc clip.
Essentially, I was thinking that it would use a two-by-two en bloc clip (could be three-by-two if you prefer, but much larger than that and there's no way it would fit in the gun). If you've ever seen a gun that uses an en bloc clip (for example, the M1 Garand), the clip is pushed in through that slot in the top. You could add an ejection port on the side, where the spent rounds are kicked out.
Basically, it would look like this- spy switches to his fully loaded Fleur-de-Lis. He just draws it, and he's ready to go. He fires, then flicks the lever action to load next round. Repeat until out of ammo. Then, when he reloads, the spy flicks the lever action again. This gesture kicks the metal part of the en bloc clip out (see 0:12 of this [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAid4-ONeko"]short video[/ame]), the spy lowers the gun, and then shoves in a new en bloc clip, and flicks the lever to load the first shell.
...I'm making this way too complicated. I'm sorry.

yeah, that's A LOT of work, and all of this is practically animations which I suck at doing.
Fleur Deux Lis. The French pun is just irresistible. And I'm no longer worried about the side of the gun looking empty- the brush stroke texture, or whatever that is, looks excellent, and keeps it looking elegant and slick.
The additional flowers, are you planning to put them on that side panel? If you were going to do that, I have an idea. I really like how the engraving on the grip seems to sort of grow out of the wood on the handle, and maybe you could do a similar effect, having the flowers look like they are growing out of the barrel, from left to right?
Personally, I think it's beautiful as is, but people seem to want more flowers, so just tossin' in me two cents.
Lol, well, it DOES look good, but I think we had a misunderstanding. I was talking about the SYMBOL for a Fleur De Lis, not the WORDS, kind of like the picture youngoli linked in his comment.
If you're going to keep that design, however, I would center it a little better vertically.
And I dont want to sound stupid.. But i dont get the joke DX anyone care to explain it?
A 'Fleur De Lis' is a French symbol, 'deux' is the French word for '2', 'de' and 'deux' are pronounced the same, and the gun has 2 barrels whereas the revolver and Ambassador only have 1.
Really, it's a joke only people who know a little bit of French will get.
I for one dont like putting the name on the gun maybe just post a model without it just to compare?
and will thie design be the same on both sides?
And I dont want to sound stupid.. But i dont get the joke DX anyone care to explain it?
The joke is this- the fleur-de-lis is a traditional symbol of French kings, and the Spy is both a snob and French, so it suits him. However, "deux" is french for two, and the gun has two barrels. So you get "Fleur-Deux-Lis", or "flower two lilies", a fun little pun on how it's a two barreled gun.
Bilingual jokes really are pretty lame once you explain them, but trust me, it's comedy gold.
Here, I did a quick photoshop to show you what I meant in the first place, just so there's no more misunderstandings. I'm sure you can make the design a bit fancier than this, but this was what I meant to say earlier.
I think it's a bit too complicated. The engraving on the ambassador annoyed me for pretty much the same reason. Plus, if you keep our AA low it will make your eyes bleed with all the jaggies.
Plus, I still stand by my statement that a weapon called the Fleur de Lis should have an actual Fleur de Lis on it, but it's your weapon. Don't let this ol' sourpuss stop you if you like it.

Ok guys, I don't think any kind of engraving is needed on the sides, the brush strokes make it a little more interesting, and the flowers coming from the handle make it original. I tried A LOT of stuff before posting my faves, and my decision is to leave it like THIS:

Great job Fragus! Looks magnificent

Hahah, my fault for getting carried away. I would say, add an ejection port on the side, and you're golden (no pun intended).
Pop the shells in the top one at a time. Imagine how the shotgun is reloaded, only from the top instead of the bottom.
I respectfully disagree, but it's your model. :-)

no, i think somthing should go in that space.. maybe just that same design without the name?
Looks good, but again, I think the design is still a touch too high on the panel and should be pushed down a bit to center it better.

It's Awesome! but i think Thrillho is right, move it down a little bit,
