The bip_head bone is at 0 0 0 in the new system, and the model has to be facing up on the correct axis to be the right way round; i.e, not on the back of his head.
That would work, yes. But the easy way is to just build your model around the head models provided by Valve on the contribute page. They're positioned correctly.
Finally an answer! I asked last page but noone seemed to take notice...
All my other hats were positioned pefectly before this new compiler but that change screwed with me for two days trying to figure it out.
I have another question however:
Since using this itemtest compiler (instead of manual compile), my hats are showing perfectly in model viewer now but while in game they dont show while loading them up in itemtest. I did have the compiler auto skin to bip_head and all that good stuff, so im not sure? Anyone have an idea as to what may be going on?
very interesting look i think it works really well , all i'm a little concerned with right now is the size and positioning of the scope, might be a little too close to the head imo, it feels like its right in your face than giving the sniper enough room to breathe, just a first impression. nice work so far man :thumbup:
Yeah, in the process of fixing the scope. Habboi keeps mentioning how lucky I was in the first place for modeling "blind" as he calls it. I used no model references or anything, lol. Just booted up sketchup one day and tada, the GSQ was born. So really, the only things that were a little messed up visually and that had clipping issues were where the thumb rested on the buttstock and the scope. For throwing a dart blind folded in the belly of a cave during an eclipse, I think I did fairly well for hitting the circle encapsulating the bullseye :P.

well obviously your judgement of the earth's curvature, wind speed velocity and trajectory of said dart seems to have served you well on this occasion :P, sometimes it just comes together like that. Just minor details to sweep up really, has a nice weight to it as well, it doesn't feel like a long range sniper.
@Noors - I like the concept . The mask reminds me of my old "Boy Wonder" for the Scout that didn't get in because either they didn't like it or they liked the Bonk Boy better :P
@Ronin - Interesting work idea. And good luck with the beard.
Haven't posted here in a while because I've been busy with work and collaborations but I thought I'd post this here. It's based on the game The World Ends With You.
I also resubmitted some of my Community Medieval Update items but they seem lost in the mess of the workshop, they didn't show in the recent category when I submitted them...
yeah Jzeeba and i were thinking of doing a pack based on TMNT or one incorporating different 1980 cartoons, the main problem is liscensing issues who knows maybe we'll get back to it.
also svdl has made a Shredder Helmet for the heavy.
@JZeeba
Fat chance we'll ever get a TWEWY steam promotional. But nicely done anyways. Now I want Mr. Mew as a Teddy Roosebelt replacement and to get Flair! and decal it with pins from that game. (I would, but i don't really want to spend the money)
Nice indeed. Doesn't mean it can't be used as a skin eh.
Just trying out an idea and blocking it out to see how it looks. I want to experiment with a more scrapheap style with worn away paint and sharp edges.
Mr. Freeze's Puns - YouTube
one of these has to be the name/description.
search your feelings, you know it to be true.
EDIT: OH SNAP, IT'S ONLY 8 HOURS AND 29 MINUTES UNTIL HALLOWEEN IS OVER. TIME TO BREAK OUT THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS :santa:
That movie is such a guilty pleasure. Bat-credit cards, Bat-ass, and best of all the Governator spouting some of the worst puns known to man. I know what I'm watching tonight!
Nope Watcher. The faces use morph targets (no bones in game), so you'd have to get the face rig (hopefully the fully animated one) and just add the item as a full head replacement.
Might be possible to animate the item and script it to work, but i imagine that would be a lot of work, then convincing Valve to use them is an entirely new hurdle.
Golden-eye (working title) is almost ready now, gave it a bit more of a worm look, took away the logos and stamp, again found it a bit distracting in the end, decided to try something more subtle and play with the specular at the same time, added a different eye to each end of the scope.

Looking good so far. It's got good colors that go well together. Only thing that's kind of making me go o.O is what I guess is the suppressor part of the barrel. Maybe darken that a bit, and it'd make it look better overall.
Removed the jarate and the knife. Added sniper bullet, syringe and scout shoes. (which is a heavily modified scout foot and remodeled a bit. ) What you guys think?
Hi, this is a first time post for me in here. Please don't hold back I want any and all kinds of criticism. After playing around with the source engine for the first time I decided to start on some items for TF2. I have been concepting a Rocket Launcher for the soldier based on a 'lunar' theme. Here are some screens from Maya and a few shots of the launcher loaded into the 'testmap' so you get a better idea of where it sits.
I would try to exaggerate the notched detail on the spine of the blade and make the whole blade a little fatter toward the business end.
I really like the details so far. Maybe a jiggle boned piece of rope dangling from the hoop would be cool too.

Hey Nzdjh,
Love the newer stuff, but when I talked to Valve, they didn't really allow model changes (maybe it was just mine)
They said it was because people would get used to the normal model or something like that.
Weird thing happened to one of my items in the workshop today. It lost about 20-30 ratings on it and now it's dropped down about 10 positions :S. Oh well...

New project. And the fixing begins.
WIP of an Icicle Melee replacement for the Spy. Figured I'd get started on the winter season a little bit early. Thoughts?

I'm going to model it, so don't.

Spy revolver for a possible pack I may or may not work on depending on how lazy and motivated I am.
Working name is the Hellhound, based on the beautiful M29 Devil custom, which I cannot do justice to save my life.
Still very early, Haven't done the cylinder, bullets, hammer or trigger yet, but the frame is close to finish. Thoughts?
I uploaded three new items to the workshop yesterday, i'd like to hear what you think.

Can't wait for the textures!

I'm starting in on another project for the heavy.
It's a little homage to Time Bandits, just 'cause the heavy is a big feller.
I'm tentatively calling it "Ship Head"
LMK what you guys think.
With the ears I will be pushing close to 1000 polys. :-(
I'll probably go back to one mast, it's more recognizable in the distance with 3 masts as a boat.

without goggles
This is seasoned with 2 parts Awesomeness, 3 parts Epicness, and a sprinkling of "F*cking Sweet!" Can't wait to see it textured.
Almost done the modeling, just did a little paint over.

@ Krasher: Just joined the "Hair Club for Soldiers" great look, very wind-swept.

Wow! It's getting tough.
I started blocking that out a week ago. I kind of gave up though, cool to see that you had the same idea. Yours is looking pretty good.
That's actually a 'mini' ship that they give tours on in Big Bear Lake California.

sorry about the long link, lol. It's just hard to find a really good pic of it.
Don't forget cannons sticking out the sides.

Still trying to think of a good name for it though. Anyone have any ideas?
Too bad the word Inspecteur has been used already.
Just have to finish up the mechanical arm and the hand

@Monkeez: Same thing happened to my items as well. I wish they'll fix the site soon, the bugs (items not showing up correctly) are getting annoying.
Ahaha this is EPIC :poly142:
Curious to see the final piece
