quick question, i currently have my weapon set up for a 512x512 texture for the body of the gun and a 512x512 texture for the chrome parts. would i be better off doing something like a 768x786 for the body and a 256x256 for the chrome?
First: 768 isn't a power of two. Any texture you use should have dimensions that are any of the following for their height and width:
1
2
4
8
16
32
64
128
256
512
1024
2048
4096
etc.
Second: You should try to use single textures as much as possible for memory conservation. If you're using two materials, one with phong and one with cubemaps for chrome, you can have both VMTs point to the same texture and use it to control diffuse and anything requiring an alpha channel.
Spycoat blu texture. Pretty much done here. Couldn't see the stripes on these shots but they are there. Also tweaked the gun's texture and ditched the intricate carvings out in favor of a simpler design. Special thanks to SVDL for the vmt that the new gun shade is derived from. Probably done with the gun as well.
what would make that gun even more badass is if it had two scopes. one on top of the other.
roninsmastermix very nice, all the models you make are top notch man keep em coming!
edit: figured out how to get the chrome working with the single texture will update tonight with hopefully a semi detailed texture, thanks again swizzle this makes it easier for me to texture
......or five more scopes. One on top of the other.....
To stay with TF2s 'style', wouldnt you want to mount a magnifying glass in front of the scope? ... or a jeweler's lens?
(In The Goon Show, Moriarty used a jewelers lens on the end of a telescope to determine a diamond's authenticity from a very great distance -- circa 1956)

i was only joking, you guys.
(except for the two scopes, one on top of the other, idea...i was actually serious about that one)
Hey guys,
I'm making a few NG weapons, and wanted to run them by everyone.
Its a welding hammer I am trying to add a little flair to with a battery bolted to it.
Since the spy always has a penchant for the dramatic and ornate, how about you carve some sort of design into the blade a la the ambassador? Nice texture work by the way.
The community is doing a fake update in the same vein of the Medieval Update. A ton of people on Facepunch are making a bunch of Halloween themed items for it. Unrelated to the inevitable official Halloween update.
Ah well that's fancy. I do believe I'll submit a Halloween item or two then.
Are you referring to the hand clipping the reloader? Nothing you can do besides move the mesh around till it fits. My shotgun trigger clips with the pyro's hand and it's gonna be a real pain adjusting it all since it's all lined up.

Source please? Because acourding to the Medieval update group, the next major collab update is the "Power Struggle update" and not a halloween one.
@Royal. I like the welding hammer. But I think you could cut polys WAY down on the handle. It really will barely be seen anyway.
And being all metal, a battery might shock the engi too.
How about it stuns both the player and victim on hit (most likely the engie is safer, being close to sentry, other players than the victim would be. So full stun on both would be fair and funny.
It should open when you jump, but when you are just standing/running/crouching, it should stay closed (mainly because the open version is blocking alot of your view).

I guess I can submit this.
Any name suggestions?

Commando knife for the spy. Crits?
I'd also like to see a gold or silver screw in the wood just to break it up. Other than that good stuff.

Oh yeah, Swizzle, since you made the gun originally can you see if you can pull some strings to get this fix on the radar of the dev team?

All that excess motor oil has gotta go somewhere...
I don't think Pyro has enough Gas Mask lovin...
So i did a few concepts loosely based off some existing gas masks.
Feel free to have a go at modeling them, if you model the 3rd one it would be cool to have the little nose bag inflate and deflate.

Comments and crits are welcome!
Put very nice Sparkwire. High quality work, as usual.
better flames? dont mind the rest of the texture still uv'ing that

Who needs a scope when you have more barrels, that way if one bullet misses you the others will still hit you
One barrel is never enough. :poly142:
Nowhere. He's just assuming there will be a Halloween update because there has been the last two years.
Ah well that's fancy. I do believe I'll submit a Halloween item or two then.
I like second one pyro mask , it's remined's me somebody , maybe from Simpsons
Yeah it's my favorite design, It's based on a ww2 civilian's gas mask.
Any help? (apart from the obvious moving of the battery)
EDIT: Fixed the positioning:

This is classic! Made my day.
Crits and comments always appreciated.
@Habboi I don't follow... what loops?

Knife equipped? Still not fitting for the spy? I kinda like it though.

for those inquiring. The gun is actually shorter than the ambassador and so is the knife.
