Hey Peris, you know I've always liked your trademark brightly-painted panels. This latest concept is an evolution while still retaining your futuristic flair. Good work!
poopviking, do you think you could refrain from posting images the size of that sketchbook collage? It's 7MB and breaks the tables until it loads... you could post it at less than 50% those dimensions and nothing would be lost. For the record that is some sweet lineart, of which I'm envious, but the image is just too huge. Thanks
Painting I started last night... some sort of psychotic barbie-shaped murderess. (friend's D&D character)
really? thats awesome, iv only ever really used ps for making like web design type stuff, might have to have a go at some real painting when i finally get a tablet
It has some nice brush settings, but no blending is done between the brush and the pixels you're painting on, like in Painter / Sai / MyPaint, or basically anything else. They've got some new painting tools in the works for the next version, but it's pretty brute force as it is.
I kind of like it that way, personally - predictable behaviour - but the dynamic brush blending the other apps have is really best for painting. I just prefer Photoshop's level of control... over layers, blending methods (like overlay) and colour editing; makes for a modular experience, good for nondestructive editing and such before flattening the layers down to keep on painting. Plus I can cut off a limb and rotate it if it looks wonky; can't always do that so easily in the more artsy programs.
Ideally I would just draw it right the first time, but heh, always learning. edit: yeah, the thing with tablets is that you have pressure sensitivity, controlling the opacity (or size if you prefer that) of the brush is absolutely key. Painting with a mouse sucks not only because it's awkward and unnatural but you would have to spend forever clicking and clicking strokes at a low opacity to get any smooth blending at all.
You should totally look into getting a tablet. Drawing digitally is freeing, no materials required, so it's easier to study and improve too. Nothing beats knowing how to draw well with a pencil, but taking that skill into digital is where it's at these days, IMO.
damn it i really want to buy a tablet now i dont want to try painting just with the mouse because that will probly just frustrate me and put me off it lol
Part 2 includes a collage image of the Tier 3 WIP. It's coming along nicely I think. Tier 4 will be a bit overkill but that's what I'm planning on once I get Tier 3 finished. I don't want to say too much about it, it's that fun!
A lot of really awesome work here guys. I like the Dr Who in leadworks. Wish those lights could get some more color though.
A first one from me, low poly scenery diffuse and spec only, maybe i'll post those and the lod sheet chunk, beat it up and give it a new butt
I am working on this head, trying to get a decent "generic masculine" look. Basics before adding too much detail. Nostrils too wide I think, also I forgot to smooth out between the brow, etc. But it's more or less getting there; supposed to be a medieval warrior, anyway...
Hey there!
I am kind of new around so I thought of starting with my 1st post here.
I think this forum is very inspiering and well organised - lots of talented people around...
I'm taking an intro to zbrush class despite me having used it for almost 2 years now. Our assignment was just a dragon head and I said screw it I can do a whole dragon in a week or two. Progress so far (scaleless and most subtools aren't blended together yet, everything still needs quite a lot of work):
Still working on my Skywarp and decided to mess around with an animation...had a lot of fun with it and trust me I know there is tons wrong with it....not bad for animating without a rig though (but oh god it took forever lol). Let me know if you at least enjoyed it a little :x
@xvampire: I like the concept, but his face looks a little too human to a point where it looks weird. IMHO I'd expect more animal features on the face, the it is now it reminds me of that fish with a human like face that showed up on the news some years ago:
Xvampire, i agree with felipeframgo on the face, maybe play with the lips and nose a bit more, bringing in some more animal references to make it seem a little more beastie. looking good tho!
This thread keeps me inspired. Love all the work here. Figured I might drop in some of my own art.
I'm a big fan of Ben Mauro. (www.artofben.com) Here is something I've been tackling whenever I get free time. Inspired by some of his concepts.
Planned to be a very short cinematic (matinee) of a train going by. I just got back to it after a little break. It's really busy right now, but wanted to share progress so far before I started digging deep into this again.
Maya. UDK.
Finish! Looking awesome man, can't wait to see your cine of the train going by.
Feels very segmented, almost like it's gonna transform into a robot :P This is probably due to the breaks being visible in the 3 dimensions though. If you embedded that into another mesh you wouldn't notice.
Working on some snowy rocks for source. After a few trial attempts at the rock's snow I've got something I might be happy keeping, though I still feel it's too blotchy.
Also, thanks valve/steampowered forums for breaking the site tonight
(setting is something like 10,000+ft up a mountain, well above the tree-line and any foliage)
Y_M, try setting up a scene in whatever 3D package you use with your rock model and a single directional light above and then bake the lighting into a texture. You can then use it as a base for a snow mask. It'll make it easy to have the snow on just the top parts of the rock.
God she's hot, nice project. I would suggest turning down the end of the nose a bit and accentuate the ribs a bit more. The scar near the mouth seems a bit "pronounced" compared to the concept. Nice work overall.
That looks like a pain to hold Jesse. Specifically the bump right where the web of your hand would go. If the grip is the proper scale, the trigger and trigger guard seem too small. If the trigger are is human scale then the grip is too big.
Otherwise seems good. Maybe a little "techy for techy's sake" for my taste. I feel like you could simplify some of the forms and end up with a more compelling piece.
Ahh Nick you asshole!... Why you gotta be right. What the fuck was I thinking? Jesus now that i look at it.. who the fuck would hold this thing... Ok back to the hp and lp to fix some shit...

fixed some proportion ...
.... dont know why im still too afraid to go further detail >_>

Went back to the modelling stage.... I got to stop rushing this shizz.

Perhaps worth to put some more tweaking-time in it and take it even a step further towards perfection?

How long did it take you to sculpt it all out?
I believe you mean exterminate... It's the cybermen that say delete.

trying to recreate this apb character, not looking forward to doing those hair planes
Displayed in max viewport using the 3ps shader lite.
Too bad! HA HA!

~300 tris,
512 maps, going for a borderlands 'normal map with cell shading' look
and a quick ship wheel:
8 tris, and a small section of a 1024 (obviously with mirrored uvs)
Jaco and Unleashed:
those are some awesome sculpts! both have alot of character and excellent form.
I fixed some things.
and the trigger
Personally I dug the original two tone look for that particular gun :poly136:
