Well. My GPU has exploded and I'm just about to order a new PC. So until it arrives i'm computerless. Well at least a computer I can work on anyway.
So I decided to actually draw something...with a real pencil!!! wow...Its been about 2 years. So where better to start than with my favourite study subject, Clint. I worked from an image in a Clint Eastwood book. I like the image because Clint looks quite sullen, which is different to his usual snake eyes/curled lip/bad ass look. But I cant find it online to compare. I'll keep searching.
Look at the darkness of the line you used around the eye, on your drawing and the picture. Both black - good.
Now look at the shadow side of the nose on your drawing. Very light grey. Now look at the picture : pitch black.
And finally, look at the dark line you drew at the junction of the lips. Black. Now look at the picture : faint line, disappearing within the overall grey shading of the lips.
When doing a study like this, this is what matters most aka the relative intensity of light and shade. Don't draw the cartoony 'diagram' of a nose or mouth just because you assume they are here - instead, reproduce the darks and lights as abstract shapes. A good trick to do so is to do the study upside down!
Haven't used Alchemy for ages so I thought i'd wack out a quick 15 min sketch at lunch. Kinda ended up with a skeksis bird thing. Maybe a Mage or a Druid. Will do more over the next few days, me thinks.

Maybe you should tell him that. Rather you than me...Punk!
Ok. I agree though. It is a little too long. Especially for his cowboy days.

Btw, Thanks Pior. Sorry such a late reply. I never really come to the sketchbook threads anymore.
