One of the guys at BioWare started a podcast for those looking to get their foot in the door in the games industry. It's great to listen for anyone that's interested, the first 2 episodes he talks about Audio Design & Tech Artists.
If you have any topics that you'd like to see covered, just leave some comments.

Thanks for the heads up Lee!
Funny shit. Awesome.
Not a 3D artist but a tools programmer who makes the tools to help the 3d artists make the models and such.
Thank you!
learned the term "bullshot"

I believe that Tycho over at Penny Arcade coined the term originally.

"Champing" at the bit.
Glad people seem to enjoy the podcast. Our next episode should be out by Monday, and is all about "gaining experience". So we talk a lot about mods, internships, and contract positions.
Send an email to gamesindustrymentor@gmail.com if you have any episode ideas or questions!
Symantics :P Where I come from we say Chomping, right or no :P Interesting google lookup though.
Semantics, colon P.
This time we talk about that classic catch 22. How do you get experience when no one will hire without experience? We talk about mods, internships, & contract work and how these are great ways to gain the experience you need for that permanent full-time position. Im joined this week with special guest Toren Lehrmann, contract environment artist at BioWare.

I started a new thread for episode 3 for those who might have questions / comments about the topic.
In case the two threads get separated.
And btw, that's some great info keep it up!
With that said, i really like the show even though I got a job its still entertaining. Its well done, I like the talks and I am a subscriber.
Glad you find them entertaining. Let me know if you have any ideas.
Hehe, no prob, my pleasure. Polycount actually got me this job, when it was posted here earlier in the year
Glad you guys enjoy it!
I suppose its easier than going around handing out your CVs or to actually print your portfolio and show it in front of them~ But then again the printing whole portfolio thing sounds like the best idea since they'll definitely see your work that way
Making business cards seems like such a pretentious thing to do. Sounds like something people will laugh at instead
When I was networking a lot, I would just carry my laptop around and try to spark discussions with people. If they were interested in seeing my stuff, I could show them on a nice computer monitor (which is how the art is meant to be seen anyhow).. and usually that was followed by a business card. I had some sample sheets, but I never found too much luck with them, and I was always unhappy about how my art showed on print. I'm sure passing sample portfolios and sample sheets out might work for some people though.
Thanks for the suggestion stimpack! We will try to work that into the environment art episode coming up in the next couple weeks.
Wouldn't that mess up his own if they were in a stack?
Suggestion/Plea: Please put on Zune Marketplace. Not sure of the hassle it is, but I would love if you did. Pwease?
Tis really food Aaron.

Kicking off our new 101 episodes is special guest and BioWare World Designer, Eric Young. We talk about what to expect from most design departments, common misconceptions, as well as a breakdown of the different types of jobs available. If you have ever had questions about what game designers really do, don't miss this episode.
Also, next week we are planning on recording the Environment Art episode with 2 special guests! One of whom is none other than your loving head administrator, Adam Bromell!
Please reply with any questions you would like to have answered on the podcast, and we'll do our best to answer them within the lunch hour we spend .
thanks for all the work your putting into these!
Yeah.. jokers in my office have retrofit the "Blame Canada" song to "Blame Canaday" :P
I'm looking forward to er.... I dunno if I'm allowed to say the next topic for the podcast but I'm really looking forward to it. Use my email or whatever as an example for discussion or whatever you like! : D
