Again, many thanks for the kind words, I'm having so much fun doing this A quick revision/paintover of the head, much happier with it now although im torn as to wether or not include eyes. Personally i think no eyes make it look much more creepy. The green circles on the carapace are mini PC logos
oh hell yea, take the eyes out. I was talking with a friend about your work he though the mouth looked like fingers which i thought was a badass idea. great detail work on the skulls there. Keep it up!
What you have going is very cool but quite different than what I had interpreted from the original silhouette....and #3 was definitely my favorite! One of the reasons why I liked it so much was that I saw an intelligent/sinister/humanoid type of head sitting atop that insect/crustacean type body. You are probably already set on the direction you wish to take this...so I hope you do not mind me offering my interpretation of your awesome thumbnail.
If you're looking for something to put on his back, perhaps you could strap some coffins on there as vessels of power?
Perhaps this beastie integrates living Normies into his system via his blade? Perhaps it sucks out their souls?
Don't listen to me, some musings while i fiddle with my own affairs ahah.
The blade is centered in his head but he's going to have an asymetrical look to him, gonna do a quick front shot tonight maybe before exploring his torso more. I allready have a pretty strong idea for the legs/arms so gonna be leaving them till last. The sword head thing isnt going to be his main weapon
dude, i dont really have anything to say. the only thing kind of bugging me is the stylized crack barbed wire looking stuff you got on his shoulder. but wow...just wow. you just gave me SOOOO much motivation to kick up my game
Cheers for the awesome responses guys, helps keep morale up!!
Started to explore the torso, doing it in side view and without legs/horn/arms to get a clearer run at it. Need to take a break from it and come at it with fresh eyes tommorow to see if it still holds up. Enjoying this massively.
this is very cool. i still wish his torso was longer, so it looks like he can headbutt things. right now it looks like he can only chop off his own legs
What you've got going so far is pretty sweet, but when I first saw the thumbnail I immediately interpreted the flat part at the end of the "head" as the head itself. I saw it as a sort of flat rectangular inhuman face with eyes on the front, hanging way out in front of the body. I think that has a much bigger creep factor.
Anyways, if I have to critique what you've got right now I'd say:
1) The horns on the head disrupt the nice flow of the blade to the head and the head to the torso. I'd ditch them altogether.
2) Make the teeth like those of the sand tiger shark. http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Books/Pix/pictures/2007/09/20/shark460.jpg
3) Either refine or remove the skulls on it. They aren't really believable right now.
4) The stitches are a nice touch, but far too clean. Give it some nice scar tissue all over the place.
5) The small spines aren't doing it for me. I prefer the thumbnail's stubby vertebrae, which I see as large cylinders sticking out of the spine. If not that, then I'd prefer some sort of spines with more mass to them.
6) Ah what the hell, just make the front of the blade into a face with spider eyes on it, but keep the mouth in the same position. That would be sweet.
Cool work, nice to see cool 2d entries coming along.

I dunno, i totally dig it. You're kind of asking him to change his design altogether, and what it comes down to is how he wanted to develop the silhouette. There's really no rhyme or reason why a blade would be sticking out of a head with no eyes and no upper jaw and 2 huge horns with skulls all over it, but I don't think there has to be!
I'm not saying he has to, I'm just saying that's what I'd do i his place. I'd also add 7 tits and a distended pregnant stomach for that "evil momma spider-demon" vibe.
Wow, you are already doing more fleshed out renders? Hmmm, I might have to agree with some of Defacto's critiques in that there are some other possible ways to take this guy.
Maybe you should draw out a detailed, but base profile and photoshop different armor, skull and anatomy variations to further explore this character?
Started to play around with the torso a bit more, loved dfacto's idea of a fat belly The blade/ridge on his head and the arm at the bottom are not his weapons, merely there for intimidation/last resort kinda thing, his actual weapons will be sorted soon. Any preferences peeps? I'm leaning towards 2 with 3's transparent belly which has greentooths inside
Keep the suggestions for the torso coming guys:) Just a very quick update with a quick sketch to check his proportions are generally working as i want them too. Arms/legs etc still to be properly designed/explored.
You are really rocking out with this concept dude, it has to be one of my favs so far. I think if you took the segmented spine of #1 and replaced the spikes with the skin and nubs of spine #2 then placed that on body #3 you would have a killer combo. And personally I think the banner is kinda out of place. Maybe having a few key spikes coming off the spine then connecting a long thin banner between them would work better. The banner also makes me wonder just how big this dude is, because up till now it seemed like some HUGE beast. Maybe toss in a human fig for scale ref in the next image. Keep up the great work!
I really like the armor in number 1 you should stick with that, transparent belly is cool but looks fragile it needs some sort protection like thick skin that can close over it like eyelids.
really enjoying the progress as well. have you thought about how it uses its power? I'm guessing "death" is the best fit for this guy. Transparent belly works for me. As for the spine, I think I would rather see the style less mechanical and more demonic. It can still look like plates but maybe with more organic features?
IMO this is exactly the kind of thing the organizers wanted to see when they threw "demon lord" out there.
I've got to admit, this is one of my favorites so far. I love the transparent belly, it's just so fitting somehow. I'd go with the spikes from 1 though. Once again, amazing work so far.
looks beautiful fightpunch, but i can't imagine what he'd do in a fight. although 12-legged lunging action could be sweet. sorry, nothing useful to add, keep doing what you do man!

Really reminds me of this guy for some reason:

Personally, I'd stay away from the cyber elements and just bone that badboy up.
Love the head 2 btw, wouldn't change a thing about the 'axe'.
