OK already posted but this is the real thread from here on. basic idea is a Jackalobe Warrior of the Greentooth tribe who uses ancestral spirits in a totem pole in his armor to provide advice and magical defenses in combat. The totems will be an eagle and a Greentooth frog. his style will be mostly western/native american schmorgesboard<hehe i think i spelled that right>.
He will be wielding a 2 handed hammer made from a snail with a spiked shell wearing a neckbrace. The snail is his final ancestral spirit.
I really can't critique becuase i Dont know the style of Dominance war very well. Not sure what there looking for as terms of style. And this style is very original from all the rest.... you maybe onto something, or you could be completely far off. Heads or Tails?
Hey guys need feedback which of these styles do you prefer right more disney style, right same as below, also how do you feel about the totems on the shoulder, unbalanced or ok?
I just noticed they were rabbits. This is going to be good. While holding the staf it doesn't look unbalanced, without the weapon, it might. Nice start, dude.
tried a little new direction changed his gear up a little, now he has a leather sleve over most of his left side that has the totem elements attached to it so they run further down his arm, moved turtle shell to be a basket on his hand, dont think it fits the design anymore? feedbacks would be appriciated, again this is preliminary trying to sort out how i want the gears.
{Edit} also i think the ears are much better down than they were up let me know what you think!
Gear looking good.. the legs look a little formless now though. I'd work a little more on them at this point so that it makes it easier when you go to model.
Hey he's looking great. I think you still need to play with the proportions a bit to get the most out of the design. Making the hands and feet quite a bit larger would help. Adding the big ears from design two might look good too.
floppy ears are working much better -- #2. Having a hard time seeing this guy hurting anything tho ... the cowboy hat is throwing me off a little. keep pushing
r4ptur3:yea hes supposed to be compact and lightning quick, maybe stalker is better for him? im thinking yoda esque fighting style but with his leaching hammer. o hes gonna have carrot throwing darts too of course.
Jackablade: d00d thanks for the crit the bigger feet/ ears are definatly a plus i got too caught up in the details to notice how the gear changed his balance, thanks.
Ravenslayer: thanks for following i think he is approaching where i want him now.
Helix: thanks for the tips the proportions down under definatly needed some love, also been folowing your thread its rockzorz man!
InProgress: haha yea i think if he can be posed with some good weightshift he will look good in the end. thanks for your input!
Deathhelmz: thanks for the input/ confidence! i was originally planning on bulk in this guy but i fee like with his size and speed as a wee folk he would do well to weave around the legs/ climb up the behemouth creatures in this years war.
hmmm i think the feathers need to be bigger to scale the character down a bit what do you guys think?
heya hes gonna be wielding this btw, idea is its a 2 handed snail hammer with an indistructable shell. via a symbiotic relationship small plants live within the shell, their seeds are planted into his enemies by means of the needle shaped spikes. these seeds leach either the life or magic out of the targets body to the point of death. Large monsters may take several hits but eventually the plant will drain all of the targets lifeforce/energy and they will become part of a tree. the snail is also one of his ancestral advisors.
Wooah finally got through forums been down but anyways i did some blocked out colors real quick on the floppy ear design i like it best i think. right now i like bottom right but im super open to paint overs as its very rough at this stage, i think the totems will have glowing embellishments on them, the leaves of the carrots will be woven into handles like these <1> still working on the hammers color scheme i believe the striations on the shell will glow similar to the totem.
Hmm guys im thinking about changing direction on this unfortunatly, and i need to decide soon because i am a slow texture painter so i will need more time on that front. Please Please let me know what you think i need direction here i like both concepts.
new concept idea just throwing around:
ok the idea on this one is much more Dwar~y it is an incubus king, basically he is a demon prince with reality altreing powers. he carries keys with different masks on them made from the faces of men whose souls he has corrupted. he uses the faces to transform into thier form and his reality altering abilities to seduce women and consume their souls. the hole in his head is where the key is locked in, this is also his true face. without one of the soul masks equipped, he is invincible because attacks against him damage his soul not his physical presence. however he has no offensive power without the masks. he will have a combination of human and demon masks all posessing different aspects of his reality altering powers. the arms attached to his neck/shoulders are used to equip the masks. i think he will also have some manner of unconventional weapon used to cut loose the souls he will destroy (probably sciscors) so primarily he will alter reality to break his opponents mentally and physically then remove their souls to sever the link between mind and body. I think i like the lefts head on the rights body. o he may also have some sort of transparent container in his stomach or chest to contain the souls he is digesting.
pretty badass dude. the one on the right with more masks and the digestion jar would be killer, literally. I'm leaning more towards the new concepts -- keep goinnnnn!
I dig the guy on the right, but I like the head on the left more. A little. They both work. I like these concepts- lots of potential- but I really admired the sense of humor you had going with the bunny. Sure you wanna bail on that one?
r4ptur3: i agree ive already started more in depth concepting sketches on him as always thanks for following your input is very much appreciated.
Bounchfx: Thanks for your reply i think im gonna go with that one i shall push till i can push no more!
coldkodiak: many thanks good sir, he has those split forearms i might play with that general grievus style so he could rock some giant scissors in one arm, i think since hes a floater maybe some atrophied legs like the monster from pan's labarynth.
Joolz8000: yea i has teh love for that lil guy too, i think i will go with the new concept, but ill do the bunny in my time after the competition.
PeterK: thanks i think we have a consensus im gonna explore the new direction more.
ok heres the idea so far with the scissors that remove soulsand some updates to his face/ body. i think i want the masks to be on his back since im having a hard time deciding on how to fit them on his front, im thinking there will be rings on the top of the masks that pierce them to his skin and when he wants to use one he just rips it out. also the handle of the scissors is bladed as well as the actual blades. the handle harvests blood from the user as a sacrifice in exchange for their power. the blood is collected in the orb in the middle. the orb in his chest contains the souls he is digesting.
Advice is most welcome im still working lots of things out
ok redid a bunch of stuff in the concept the totem arm is now totally totemic, also the left half of his body is going to be semi wood/ vines as if the totem is growing out of him. removed the hat and decided that warpaint would work better, right now im feelin a combo of the forehead bit from the middle and the bottom piece from the right. his right arm will also be redone in the near future.
FUnny design man...I like the one on the far right but like the face paint of the one on the fart left. Instead of making it on the left eye, I'd add it to his right to balance things out. Alot of attention is being directed to that one side of his body already.
Woog, I'm really glad you're doing the rabbit guy. Now I'm not the only entry that's more comical.
I like the paint on the left one and the foot of the right one but like Nynedown mentioned, I'd put the paint as well as the cobweb horn on the other side as well to help balance it out.
The snail hammer is brilliant man.
haha nice man, i love the small animal warriors like this, since birds and snakes are there predators, i would have bird and snake skulls as armor, armor of his fallen victims,,fun idea though, good to see people getting away from deamon lords
Thanks a ton for the help! I've been really struggling with my concept and I've been considering just working on the sculpt at this point and editing when necessary. First I needed to know whether or not it was even an option!
Nice concept btw. A bit too cutesy for my taste, but I'm sure it'll stand out
Fei-rukawa: hahaha thats amazing man i had never seen that before but its great!
Meshiah: i like your thinking perhaps i shall add some trophies to his belt..or perhaps a snake spine necklace? i was actually going as he is specialized to kill gigantic creatures, since he would easily be overlooked and he is small enough to get within their armor for his leeching attacks!..but i digress.
OrganizedChaos: no problem man happy to be able to assist.
Horns are done still need to work them in a bit better, pants are roughed out. im havin a bit of trouble with approaching the surface of this guy not sure exactly how to sculpt fur but ill figure something out.
Nice character, and it really translated well to the sculpt! Only crit I have is that I think the totem arm might be a little too busy looking. Could just be a result of the linework in the sketch.
Yo updates got some gear roughed out, i decided that i wanted the totems more primative with some bark still on them, looked way too boring as polished wood. also i think it will help the organic feel of the totem flowing into the body when i get to that. pants are done, still work on the belts to come, and the dart pouch, ill probably give him a pack on one of his belts as well to hold his stuff.
lookin' pretty sweet! One thing I discovered at work is to block out the primary shapes of your hair before doing individual strands. If you make interlocking C and S shapes with clay tubes and then go over it with the elastic brush and a scratchy alpha you can create some pretty cool hair effects. One of my co-workers also told me that the only hard part is making a convincing "layered" effect -- where clumps of hair lay over other clumps. I think I also saw some cool tutorials floating around by Ryan Kingslien if you feel like innerweb researchin'.
As far as your sculpt goes -- love where it's going. Keep pushing
hey rapture cheers on the fur advice, it works phenomenally, however, i think its too realistic for a character of this type definatly works well especially for stringy type hair. updates soon
next belt done and some facial refinement, little refinement in the pants and first belt as well. srry for all the tiny updates i have about an hour a day to work on this:poly127:

yup. Guy on the right has more potential. maybe some tentacles under those robes and a staff or big ass blade would top it off.
