garagarape: yea my texture skills are pants, so i really appriciate the feedback man, hey have been darkened for the latest shot, also i added some orange tones to the wooden arm to give it more of a redwood hue.
SHEPEIRO: haha thaaanks!
im thinkin on further review maybe a higher res texture on the pedistal, the vines ...dont love them as is
omg this turned out great- I'd like to see a bigger pic of the snails face One thing that irks me is the lighting and the marshmallow hes standing on. that bright white is stealing the focus. Its always cool to drop in a harsh back light, but remember to illuminate the front too because now all that great detail is getting lost. maybe play with some warm/cool color combos?
Yeah! Cool pose. The colour balance is fine too.
Man, your snail weapon is terrible! Not only its expression
but also the way light put the stress on it. This part is perfect.
May be try to expend it to other areas?
I agree with Konstruct about the lighting.
Light coming from behind could work fine if you have also
a background that reinforce this idea (Like god ray, sunset or stuff like that).
But it may not be the better way to show great details on your rabbit warrior.
Yeah, there may be something to fix on the trunk. I think making it white could work fine because it brings great contrast. But you got a definition problem on it. Looks very rough compared to your character.
I believe that making a big pedestal to put the stress on the fact that this bunny
is not a giant one, but rather sturdy is a good idea, but something is missing to make it obvious (For example, giant flowers).
Because there is not that much time left I would scale the pedestal about half its actual size and refine it using interesting paterns like the grainy bulgy texture that you made on the very down part of it. I'm sure you'll find a way to make a better
pedestal that fits your character. Sorry to write too much. Losing sense of scale
haha...That's sweet man, I love it! Make that beauty shot look off the heezy (what is a heezy, btw?!?) and you're good to go. One thing that would add to the overall scene is more detail sculpted into the vines. Keep it up man
woog! fix that arm! the one on his right is collapsing on itself -- I'd cheat it our and pull some of the verts to get some of his mass back around the elbow area.
Other than that it looks pretty sharp dude. His snail is pure awesome. i can only imagine the story of what provoked him to tie that poor thing up...
Konstruct: thanks man ill definatly go bigger for the shots for the actual comp, also i agree the platforms bloom is wayy too much maybe just go simpler like oldschool sculpture. as for the details i hope they are clearer in a bigger pic, i find myself fighting in a way with the lack of lighting options in marmo.
RoryM: haha thanks man he is super fun to play with and was pretty cake to rig as well.
Garagarape: hey sir thanks alot for all the input, feel free to say as much as you like forum is free space and comments help! I see what u are saying, ill try and manuver the light around a bit without losing the backlit effect. the texture on the base is a 1024 which is my bad since its bigger than the bunny it should probably be a huge one, ill redo pedistal today.
nynedown: thanks man i think the vines are out ill think of something else that would fit him to throw in the new pedistal.
r4ptur3: thanks buddy i was takin a look at that too and wasnt sure if the elbow was just getting lost in the light, if it is broken ill add a helper bone since im rigging him in maya to flush it out more. ill be sure to write out the whole story next week haha ive been putting tons of thought into it, its my favorite part.
oook so cleaned up the rig a little, the elbow is fixed, i changed the base to a tree that kinda mimics his arm. ill upload story image for this guy most likely tomorrow, still need to work on shots for beauty, i will probably use this setup for my presentation shot.
Cheers guys and thanks for your continuing support this would be ending up so much worse without your input.
put some mushrooms near the bottom of the tree and add some moss to the tree then maybe a patch of grass or weed or a bush somwhere in there to then it would be complete. very good work dude.
Great work woogity - Looks like you'll make it to the finish line no sweat.
Although, I would say that with all the hard work that you have put into the character, he is very small in comparison to your pedestal in your shots. I think you are best served focusing on where you really spent your time, and that is the character himself. Zoom the camera in so he takes up a lot more screenspace. Shrink the pedestal considerably.
Ask yourself how much time you spent on the pedestal vs the character. Then ask yourself why is it taking up 3x as much screenspace. Just my opinion though
Again, great work - at this point it is just a matter of presentation
Shepheiro: Thanks again for the great inputs the base has been scaled down may have a new render up tonight in the meantime.
Foreverendering: Its Jeremy right? Anyways thanks again for the inputs and great confidence boosters. I'm taking your advice to heart. If i don't finish i blame your amazing piece for disheartening me haha.
ru4it: Thanks for the input man ill defiantly take a little time to pimp it out before i finish up with my shots, it defiantly needs some foliage around its base.
Text sheet:( i decided to go old school marvel trading cards on this one
Great job woogity! I agree with foreverendering and Shepeiro though, the base seems too big in comparison to your character. What if you had him standing on the top of like a tree stump instead of having a full tree next to him. That way you still convey a sense of scale but you dont take away from the char. I did a quick paintover to give you an idea of what I mean.
haha thats great nrek, i hate to do it, but i guess its time for base #3 , im takin off on friday so should have no trouble finishing even with the extra work. so stump base shall be done!
Gav: i am most flattered, but i kno my textures arnt the best haha i battle with them every go workng on building consistancy! Thanks man and your piece blows my mind, the blinding whitehot bits are great, u got some sweet details from your maps man.
thanks all scaling the current pedistal down dosnt work right now so im gonna go with the stump nrek suggested. current one makes him look huge if i scale it down, and since hes a lil guy that takes away from his scale.
Hey man, just seeing your WIP here now. I have to say you have improved so much over the course of this DW and you should really be proud. It is indeed a great character both in execution and design.
So yeah, just give it a worthy base and your good. Best of luck to you.
Hey Woog! Nice work on your text sheet.
The army folder file idea is cool. Glad to hear
you're gonna try a new pedestal. No problem for
you with a 7 days extension. Go go go rabbit warrior!
hey Woogity, cool stuff! the character has gone a long way nice the start.
For the final render try going with a 3 point light setup, with the current setup, the main light is a bit harsh so id tone that down. A render similar to what you posted on post #103
would work great.
BradMeyers: hey man thanks for the kind words, been bustin my ass on this guy for the last two months. i was hoping you would be participating in this one, but maybe next year?
Garagarape: haha yea the extension is nice kinda an ease out since i wasnt planning for it at first im sure your getting to take the time for some nice presentations too, you were done with your build so fast. awesome piece too man i love what you are doing with your sheets.
Wizo: Hey thanks man, ill work on the lights more, kinda fighting with them in marmoset, since i dont know if you can even add more lights in there. it seems to be all about tweaking the main light and rotating to kinda force your shadows.
AKAperly: thanks alot man put tons of thought into that part especially.
Foreverendering: Thanks man, yep time to finish up the beauty and presentation shots, rest is pretty much done at this point. stunning work btw.
Just a test not the final presentation shot, but wanted to show off the new pedestal. also i was thinking i might add some motion blur to this pose for one of the beauties.
garagarape: dont be sad, thats just an idea for beauty shot i think i will have one where he is like nomin a carrot dart, and the snail is trying to escape or something
Yup, that pedestal is way better. I think one thing that really stands out is the material on the eye. Either the texture or the material, either way, it really pops out in a weird way. A pupil that bright is just unnatural (unless, curiously, with the exception when it glows, then it looks cool again).
I think you should take a look at the eyes again, looks at some refs, and then go for it. The rest of this is really gorgeous, I'd hate for some freaky eyes to distract people.
Oh, cool! Great improvement.
Seen from behind, your rabbit-warrior's shapes
are not easy to read. Turn it a bit more in order to
see the arm holding weapon? But I'm sure you tried
a lot before chosing this one. For my dog, I cheated a bit
on the rear pose to make it more harmonious (a slightly different pose
than the one used for the front shot). Almost done heh,
you are close to the finish line.
Jeremy: thanks man no worries on broken record, i have a pretty thick head sometimes, in the updated presentation shot with the repainted eyes and reskinned snail, i cropped a significant portion of the pedestal off to force more focus on the character. thanks for your continuing assistance
Nynedown: thanks man i will be o so proud come monday till then im gonna approach this as still wip so i dont get lazy
construction shot and revised presentation shots tonight
good job woogs. each shot is getting better. i would go alittle darker and desaturated on the bark of the pedistal to make the colors on the character pop. other than that i would soften the fur alittle, which is tough in games because the spec shwo off the the "3d" ness of a model.
keep plugging away man the model has a good spirit to it
r
truth still need to proofread that guy and will also have already slightly tweaked the construction shot and presentation, lightened up the front view a bit to make the detailing on his belts and pants easier to read.
Hey Woog, just in case you don't know:
All images must include text that indicates your character's race, class, your contact details, Dominance War IV logo and your team logo. A lot of people seems to have forgoten that. It may worth reading the rules once more.Good luck for the last finitions.
ok im callin it quits now, ill check tonight for any last minute crits hope you guys like the character, and best of luck to everyone else on pullin theirs together!
thanks everyone for your continued crits and support without pcounts help this piece would have been completely different and i daresay much worse!
Unleashed: thanks man! was goin warpaint, hard to find good refs of warpaint on fur at his scale.
Conte: thanks man!:)
Garagarape: thanks for lookin out man i really appreciate it!
Great super elk-rabbit ninja-warrior saviour of the forests!
So, you're done. Congrats! Just one last crit:
I don't get what is the white thin stuff coming out
of the weapon handle. Not the big deal fixing it, but
won't take too long. Can't wait to see everybody's
final work on Dominance War web site.
Thank you for your support too. And surely
see you next year for another contest
Cheers!
Isn't that because your datas are too heavy or something?
If you don't manage to send them by the submit page, ask

still needs alpha and glow channels, i hear there is a workaround for glow in marmoset using multiple renders laid together in photoshop
