Sweet work man. Some of the detail may be a little TOO busy though. I can't really tell what's going on in some parts.
Also, I feel like the scene with the chairs could have a little better composition, as I can't really tell what I'm supposed to focus on, and there's really no where for the eye to rest.
Just minor nit picks though, you're clearly very skilled at modeling.
Yeah I dont mind the books I mean their books lol but thanks for the input lol. yeah my site is davidlesperance.blogspot.com. I'm not totally thrilled with the comp either lol oh well didnt get paid for it lol Thanks again guys
I just cant wrap my head around some of these models, Im very interested in a workflow or to watch you build something that is complex/sci fi mechanical
I work in pieces, so everything is modular not sure if that helps but, I think the trick is to make pieces some designs work better with this then others though. And I make it up as i go which helps lol
Looks good, you're continuing to clean things up and allow people to appreciate the noise thanks to allowing them some rest inbetween the intense areas. Good color choices, I think the more common thing would have been to bludgeon people with the burgandy, but you've balanced it well with the limes and olive tones.
I think you pushed too much reuse of the leaves and berries from the table, they work well on the chairs and forge a strong link but using them again on both the mirrors and then the firepiece weaken and busy the scene and drag down its otherwise striking sense of ostentatious brilliance.
To see you in particular, work this hard to control your noise addiction though, very impressive, great to see you pushing yourself this far. Its a scene with a great sense of itself, Sherlock Holmes could easily wander in and start shooting up cocaine before continuing to lounge around and laconicly stare at the ceiling.
Something's up with the image quality, all of the bright highlights have dark lines around them, is this present in the straight render? are you sharpening your images? if so you might be going too far.
The stand-alone table image is nice. The full composition above it though is extremely hard to read. There's a ton of patterns and colors going on and it's hard to see shapes and form. The lighting doesn't help break out shapes, you should take a look at how photographers set up lighting in a scene to make parts recede and important areas stand out.
The area to the left of the center chair towards the floor is extremely hard to read and I can't tell what I'm looking at. There's a stack of books and a floor but I can't actually see what orientation everything is.
JordanW thanks for the reply Im gonna have to disagree with ya though I mean its far from perfect but compositionally I dont think its too hard to read, as far as the overall look goes thats kinda my thing, but again thanks for the input.
Hey all late night speed sculpt just messin around 30-40 mins tonight and now its time for more coffee or beer...na gonna get some coffee but close call none the less
Hey all started concept/learning some new things for the next piece...what concept art?? thats like pre production lol I know I was druunk. But it was a fun study. not at all finishing but it got across what it needed to so good learning exercise. I recommend the digital matte painting book to everyone way cool for enviro dudes. Alot of great concepts
It was done in rayfire. Its a way cool max plugin if you get the chance and your into destruction you should totally check it out. I use it at work all the time. Great for making fast rubble http://rayfirestudios.com/
Your work is really great! Nice details and scale sense, great materials also!
And i like how you stopped say "stay metal", which honestly was a bit annoying)))
Man, that's awesome! The only thing that bugs me is the cloth on the ground. I think it needs more folds to make it look lighter and less thick, and the bump/displacement is too pronounced.
Hey all another study about 30-40 hrs I think, most of which where messing around with different modeling stuff. Used Zbrush to help make some break up patterns for th shaders which where primary procedural lol Also used it to gen some basic form and tweak some of the mech stuff. This was also a fun way to test max's container stuff. Rendered in Vray and tweaked in photoshop. Stay Metal
when u say 30-40 hours, u mean u model and textured that from scratch in that time?
dtschultz in rendered displacement alot of the detail gets whiped out so I tend to push my source heavier then you would for NM extraction lol but thanks again. Lonewolf Hey dude yeah I mean for for everything alot of stuff is being done through the shader set up though so the uvs are basic projection most cases. Lol and alot of coffee if your of age beer or wine helps too lol. I work mainly at night so its easier to get stuff done then during normal production hours. Plus working at home helps alot for me as far as speed goes nordahl154 The tree is actually only three pieces for the structure. I did the uving in Zbrush lol. After Sigraph I'll show how. Really its very very very easy. From there its Photoshop and some touch up in Zbrush. Not perfect but its a personal piece lol.
Thanks again dudes. I'll spare you on the metal catch phrase lol Sorry about the bold font it wont turn off lol
Hey dude no new art. Well thats not true but nothing to post yet. I wanted to let you know that if your Vancouver this year for Sig, come drop me a line maybe grab a few beers lol. I'm doing a few demo's with some crazy talented dudes. I'm demoing some envrio stuff in Vray along with some map baking and Zbrush stuff envolving the render. Thanks again hope all is well
Flawless victory pretty much sums up what is going on here, anyways man how old are you now ? Your bio says you were working since the age of 16, went to college @ 18 and your woking already 2 years in college + game industry O_O, so your only 20 and you've done this much ? Congrats man and bravo time well spent.
Hey dudes long time no post. Some Crazy stuff going on at the moment. Long story short, I've been lucky enough to get to rock out with the metal heads at Blizzard film for the last few years. Now I'm heading up North to hammer smash face and work on one of my childhood dreams, HALO!!! Thats about all I can say. Here's what I've been up to lately.
Congrats on getting to work on halo
All of this is just amazing, only thing I could say is the heads are lacking compared to you environment art but that's just nitpicking.
this is so flippin amazing I was about to throw my computer on the floor while screaming RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and jammering my chest with my mouse!
Dave nice work as always but what the hells going on with this texture? Looking closely I can see a brick texture on the bricks but it's super scaled down. Uh what?
Seems like a nice start but these things are killing it for me on this piece in particular.
The other work though. AMAZING and we've already chatted a bit but congrats on 343 you BASTARD!!!
You have come a long way since our days at Midway together.

Excellent shader and modeling anyway !
What did you use for the rendering ?

I love your details and textures. Where do you work?
Keep staying metal! :P

How did you texture that tree?

but please
+ can anyone suggest how you can quickly create roots over tiles, similar to what Dave has created above? Thanks.
any chance u can post wires of that engine?
trying to figure out something

How did you do?
Nice texturing work!
