Whats up Metal, your boys Dan L and John Powell talk about you a lot lol. I work with them at Day 1. Cheers, awesome stuff mate, and keep up the good work!
kaburan!!! Tell Dan and the guys I said Hi, I owe Dan aton, man we all gotta get together soon!!! Yeah Mr. J I think your right its startin to grow on me lol, its amazing what happens when your pay check depends on it lol. Thanks for the kind words. I have alot of work to do. My art is still hella messy, I need to spend alot more time refining the asset level of things. Here's to imporving
I love how you started this thread almost two years ago, and you keep updating it showing your progression over that span of time. It's a good thread to have around.
Wow! That is sick, man. Is there any way we could see a wireframe of this? That would be really helpful if you could. I'm just curious how much of that detail is from polys and how much is texture? It looks like it is all polys. Are these meshes exported from Zbrush mostly?
so here is the new stuff, well a piece of it anyway, the next few months are a focus on more machine stuff, based from ref and what not, pretty much like real work lol. Stay metal Happy holidays see ya next year
great job with the engine dude, I can appreciate that a hell of a lot more than some of your other work (too noisy for myself), but to immediately counter what I just said I dig the cathedral as well
Hey dudes, yeah mr johnstone told me to start this a while ago and I'm finally getting around to it, maybe Im getting older lol. as far as trick I general do a base mesh in max and if need be tweak the forms in zbrush, Ive been focusing more and more on modeling and shader side stuff lately. the hard surface stuff with the mechines will continue for some time because my professional stuff is the polar opposite at the moment. Thanks again my cg society page is http://metalman123456123.cgsociety.org/gallery/
and my website/blog is davidlesperance.blogspot.com
Thanks again for the kind words hopefully next year I learn three times as much
thanks for the explination, the more I do art the more I realize that there are no tricks just alot of skill and lessons learned.
hey before you went pro how many hours a week would you dedicate to your craft? I can get about 35 at max but I regularly get around 20-30 however when I start in the airforce I may have considerably less.
seeing your work, I can tell you've dedicated considerable amounts of time and effort to get to your level (unless your a freak) and I am willing to do the same but it would be awsome if you could tell me how much I should shoot for.
Hey RJBonner sorry about the delay its the holidays lol,but yeah dude I love the stuff, I always feel like I suck and work with people that are a billion times better then I'll ever be so I really just try as hard as I can. I mean this stuff takes time I've been doing it since I was 16 I'm 22 soon to be 23 and I dont know a damn thing about it lol. I'm focused on enviro stuff but I also love the tech side of things, especially shader stuff. I recommend focusing but not over focusing I think its vital to learn every part of production and art, imo an evrio dude needs to know alot of different thing to be good, reactor down to scripting its import to know how both render time and realtime shaders work because the two are becoming blured. This field is great if you want to learn, but I dont have a clue in hell what Im doing to be honest lol I would recommend looking Kevin's stuff along with Niel Blevins, there are alot of very very very very very tallented people in this field most have been with it since the start like Marik Denko. Those are the masters imo. Stay metal, hope that helped. As far as the amount of time thats really your call, I mean I try to do one to two studys a month. I work full time in the 3d field, I have a life outside of the 3d as well, working out, my gf surfing the bars ect. An artist needs to live life imo, but this stuff is really something you have to learn on your own to really understand it. So make time where you can and dont forget to live a little
Another Study
Hey all here is another study I've been doing. Same work flow as always vray max zbrush and photoshop. I find it way easier to change shapes and what not inside of zbrush rather then max for wires and what not. Great for relaxin bad geo too lol. But shadow box is great for sketchin things out asap. Anyway stay metal
Cool, man! Although, I'm not sure what's going on with the distortion around the edges. So, you did all the wires in Zbrush; how much of the other pieces were done with shadowbox versus Max? I've got to give shadowboxing a try. I haven't gotten into it yet.
lol thanks, I used zbrush to repostion the wires. The mech stuff is in shadow box then modified in projection master. to get the edgeing. You can make the wires in zbrush either an alpha or a cylinder then use the movetopo brush, it can be kinda a pain so use a light hand lol. Stay metal
Death metal black metal speed metal...all metal llol
Hey all another study about 30-40 hrs I think, most of which where messing around with different modeling stuff. Used Zbrush to help make some break up patterns for th shaders which where primary procedural lol Also used it to gen some basic form and tweak some of the mech stuff. This was also a fun way to test max's container stuff. Rendered in Vray and tweaked in photoshop. Stay Metal
Hey dudes thanks for the kind words, yeah its the high rez version. Its rendered through vray. Im doing some personal study stuff thats relating to some of my work stuff. I would love to bake it down, but at the moment its strickly a modeling study. It rendered pretty fast. about 15 mins or so. Thanks again, stay metal
