good idea with the "history" stuff Tim, I always try to do that since it gives you a greater pool of focused ideas to draw on and add to the character, to make it unique and compelling.
I like this new guy, not really sure what's going on with his right arm though!
Hey man amazing work, I was wondering how do you approach the blockout ? Like I understand making the basic shape of it, then what do you do after that, Zbrush and start sculpting? I really enjoy your work I will be following :>
Hey, I decided I am going to push myself to do a sketch/painting/doodle every week in an effort to learn, by reflecting on each piece and deciding to approach things differently on the next one. These are the first 3. I hope the rest will vary and I will learn in the process. I am going to attempt to push myself out of my comfort zone with these pieces as there are far too many crutches that I currently rely when working in 2d. Comments and Crits welcome
This is my League of Legends inspired reskin of Jax - was fun to do. I did a very basic sketch and colour blockout out. I lost some of the drama of the pose as I painted and I didnt pay enough attention to the lighting direction, material definition or push the design enough.
week 2 was Orco fan art, I was happy to finish it but felt that it was just too flat, suffers perspective issues and the re-design was not interesting enough.
This was the first and it was a doodle straight to finished sketch. I tend to paint values rather than work with colour and this was a deliberate attempt to force myself to work directly with colour. Every journey needs a first step
JFletcher - cheers, sadly slow and painfully as I already told you
Seth - I use symmetry early on and then switch to unique sculpting. Its not something I can recommend but it has forced me to think more about all the things I don't know about anatomy.
Clintus Maximus, mr_ace - thanks
Ron.S - it depends on the piece, I mean am trying to do different things with each one. Generally I like to dive into a sculpt and play with blockout meshes. Its not always the best approach though and you have to be comfortable throwing stuff away.
dom - thanks!
fightpunch - cheers, love the avatar ;D
vahl - you lazy bum get on it!
g2000, JoseConseco - cheers
GoSsS - glad you like em
Tiny update for Sagat as I cleaned the face up
Also I did a clean up on an old sketch from my mutant range;

You couldn't have made my day any more. I really hope you go through with it- I love your work seeing a sketch/painting/doodle every week would be fantastic!
thanks for the encouragement guys! I am happier with the bookworm lazy dragon lordling so I might finish it off a little. Can u guess my favourite colour ?
This week I sketched out this female mutant, medusa esk. Started with strong lines to help me figure out what I wanted to do and then decided to keep it simple with contrasty values. Quite happy with her although there is more that can be done.
Previous week.. I didnt get into my sketch/painting and tried a colourful treatment that quickly left me feeling I wouldn't get it finished in time and then switched to a random Zeno Clash inspired doodle.. not so keen on it but posting to kick myself into gear.
I do most of them on sundays and get to spend 2-4 hours on them. I spent more on Orco and Jax - sketched them out and then refined them in an evening. One a week is my promise to myself
The Medusa chick looks like she'd be really interesting without the human legs, right now the tail feels pretty seperate and lacking that extra pazazz. might be cool with something more aquatic/crustacean-y from the waist down, like a firy shrimp or a mighty lobster? just a thought anyway.
suburbbum - yeah I should do some sculpts, maybe soon
ScudzAlmighty - yeah the tail doesnt feel connected - maybe I should revisit and clean things up ! I still have some holiday time this year and plan to do some art so I might blitz a bunch of stuff that needs work.
MMX Alamar,getright,nfrrtycmplx, illybang, - thanks
felipefrango - haha, na'vi on steriods in the 80's colour nightmare perhaps
vahl - thanks man
