Really nice stuff mate, particularly the PSP Porco Rosso stuff.
I'd be interested to see what the tanks look like at DS Res. I've been working on DS games myself and haven't ever really bothered with such painstaking dithering patterns, so it'd be good to see whether its worth the extra effort.
Are you going to stick an alpha on that DS plane's propeller?
personnally i think its worth it, and its not so bad either esp at 64* maps, did both models and textures in a night (6 hours or there abouts) depends on the style your going for.
heres a shot at DS res note screen furniture mock-up
Nice. Has a very classical Nintendo feel to it.
Have you considered adding a little bit of vert lighting to your landscapes? If you keep it nice and subtle you should be able to make the forms of the rolling hills and whatnot pop a bit more without losing that nice oldschool 8-bit flavour.
this was my first propper environment and the hills are not as good as they could be, but it was a learning peice, would have been a good idea, I won the comp it was for over at cgtalk any way so :-P
gonna try another one one day i love pixel paintin
This is going to be a full game, and not just some show pieces right?
Anyways, if you are really serious about porting it, I might be able to arrage a free unit...maybe
hah - I saw one of these mystical machines of myth at a store in akihabara the other day, I almost took a photo!
nice islands dude!
nice lods, guess that high lod will be for choosing craft, would appear to be too high poly for rendering islands, other planes and its self, right?
At the miyazaki ghibli museum they have a really huge version of this plane for sale... only $10,000 !
i think one version will be more than enough, but thanks.
Hawken, after this im building a full size one outa balsa wood! maybe
the higest LOD is for the players plane, its 950tris(450 backface culled) which is nearly the same as porcos (910) that we already have working in game. were currently using 1/3-2/3 of the tri pushing power with islands sea and player plane, so it should be able to support 3 other players on screen at once (unlickley occurrence) and some power ups/effects stuff nicely. i dont know about getting four players online at mo were working towards 2 so everything should be fine.
maybe if you play with less players there would be more clouds on screen (ones that you fly through).
im telling you tring to fly it while shootin video at same time is a pain in the nutsack, does anyone (devs) know of anyway of getting video/images offa the DS direct?
erm for the moment im producing enough art to keep our single programmer quite busy,
and i got dibs on all the planes =D
but maybe in the future when weve nailed a few more of the nuts and bolts, we may need a level/environment artist or someone to do the 2d stuff, but thats a bit off for now.
ill keep you in mind if/when we do.... plus payment may have to include a partial lower leg ontop of the foot.
How does that fine detail go on the smallest LOD? Looks like it might flicker quite a bit on the DS.
As for capturing screens and video, we've got a special dev kit for doing it. I'm not sure whether the standard ones can do capture but it might be worth experimenting with. Failing that, there are a couple of DS to TV converters which you could then capture. Its a bit of a round about way of doing things but it would probably be feasible and not terribly expensive. http://www.gamingbits.com/content/view/695/2/
