more sketches, let's see how long i can keep up with doing two sketches every night
an image of Asia Argento i pulled off my harddrive. took about an hour, needs a lot of work
well my sound card appears to have died so i can't listen to winamp so i threw on a couple Joe Satriani CDs and drew the CD cover. this time i actually took time to draw the image instead of just painting without any line reference. not sure how long this took but i listened to two and a 14 or 1/2 72 minute CDs. i actually like this one
lineart
shaded *updated because i forgot to shade his thumb
and yes Joe Satriani is good enough that he doesn't even need guitar strings to play reference. the amazon image isn't that good of quailty but it let's you see what i was going for. also you must buy this cd
well i only managed to get about 25-50% of one image done tonight since the proportions decided to fight me for nearly four hours , also it's a much larger image than the others.
Alexi Laiho, guitarist/singer for the band Children of Bodom. reference is in the April issue of Guitar World magazine so go buy a copy if you want to see the original
this is at 50% with a quick color mock up. in case you're wondering, the big purple thing on his arm is a cast. here is the line art. i think i redrew 3-5 times before getting the right proportions. still need to draw the facial details, shirt design, tattoos and guitar details, then work on the actual color.
You should start with full opacity.
This forces you to be bold with your colours, and it'll help you decide what's important and what isn't.
I think Prom mentions this in his tut too, so maybe you should read it again.
Hard, flat blotches of colour come first, then comes definition.
If you use lower opacity, you'll just get stuck on doing details/shading, and you wont do any actualy learning, most likely.
I'm trying out Justin Kaufman's (Coro from CA.org) technique on my last pencil drawing... just inked it and done a quick wash with alcohol-based pen refill inks so far. Gonna do a coloured pencil pass, then gouache on top... haven't drawn anything in coloured pencil for years, and never used gouache, so it should be fun learning
Badge, hell yeah, I'm totally stealing this off Justin "el coro" Kaufman, one of the guys from Massive Black (over on conceptart.org) ... you can see his stuff at www.coro36ink.com - just take a look at his Sketchbook pages. Awesome. Even better when seen in person!
Been putting that together last night for a friend who writes RPG character descriptions.
These are supposed to be two brothers. The one on the left has the ability to perfectly mesure time ranges/relationships but is a bit dreamy. The one on the right is an carpenter who can precisely evaluate distances and volumes, and is somewhat the leader

pior how do you make your scans so clean? (n00b queston)
Steady: you can get cleaner scans if you draw on unlined paper. Looks like the blue lines are throwing the adjustment levels in Photoshop. You could also scan in, or convert to, Grayscale. Your blue lines would become pale gray lines that you can get rid of with Levels. Use caution.
Everybody rip off Pior's gradient color effect! Maybe he'll get irritated and quit drawing so freaking good.
still kind of new to the traditional art thing, here are a few portfolio peices I had to do for entrance into the traditional/digital arts program I enrolled in
Yes, I have been playing too much World of Warcraft. However that great painting tutorial that KillingPeople posted (thanks, kp!) got me interested in trying out some digital painting again. In honor of my Paladin's 60th level, I have begun a portrait, after the style of Blizzard:
Here is my reference
I hope to end up with something like my Blizzardesque coloring of Nutsy's beast.
Hehe well finally I am back and posting.....nobody probably remembers me :P.
Anyway this is something I made, took me 6 hours. I suck with colours, so C&C is appreciated.
Here's something a bit different from me, pen sketch. I am always open to critiques Maybe I will have a go at colouring it later. Btw Killing People I really like your stuff, your imagination seems to have no limit.
