Anuxi i've seen your stream, the idea was weird, but the final design is good, especially the twisted details on the horns and the aerodynamic shape effect.
Nice drawing keinhangia, nice perspective, colors and very sexy.
Tvidotto: what is the completely black and shadless ball?
The shoulder armor maybe should be darkened a bit like the dark grey of the legs and the pattern bigger.
I am doing my first item, so i don't think i'll finish it in time, i am learning while i make it, i am following the texturing tutorial of Tvidotto too.
Debating whether a loading screen is necessary or not at this point since I have another set i'd rather spend my time texturing. What do you guys think? Loading screens are technically not a requirement, but they seem to have become expected for since most of the recent set that have gotten in have them.

For how awesome this is I would say do a loading screen. even though they are not a "requirement" they are pretty much expected with sets. I have even heard whispers that Valve had requested loading screens from sets that did not have them. Basically what I am getting at the way I see it, you upload without loading screen, then Valve requests a loading screen because this puck is too cool not to put it in, and in the end you are doing a loading screen anyways :poly142:
@kite212: That's a tad depressing. What about people like me who're terrble at photo-composition and manipulation?
It is, but this has been the trend for most of 2014. There have been a few ticket bundle sets without loading screens, but the sets in chests are a different story. I am not the best artist, and my 3d is much better than my 2d, but I will still be doing my first solo loading screen for my new bloom set for these reasons.
Finally ingame. Mask's to go! Skinning was a bit tricky and there are still a few minor issues to sort out. Boy Valve really make things difficult with the legs/root/spine01 all counter rotated in different directions...
Made the loading screen. Probably gonna submit tomorrow night. Feel free to throw out any critiques, tips or suggestions for tweaks I could make to improve it. (other than a complete overhaul :poly124:)
Oh also, if anybody wants to suggest a name for the set, please, be my guest!
So far I've been thinking something along the lines of Jaded Trickster, Eternal Malefice or Ethereal Malefice.

Jade (not jaded) Trickster might be good. The chinese, especially the older generation are fond of jade, so jade does bring across a traditional chinese feel. "Jaded" means tired or bored though, so... yeah.
@Thnk- I think if you darkened the background right behind the character he would pop a little better in the loading screen. @Toasty- Just amazing! No crits @Tvidotto- That new animation is really nice, I can see why the default was bothering you now.
@Toasty, I got a better skin from binding the main tail to the fin1 bones. That way the tail animates better in game. If you bind to Tail only bones, it will stretch and look awful.
---
Just a bit of progress with the goat morph.
I always test my base colours in game every time I make a breakthrough. Base colours are the most difficult and time consuming process of the whole texturing pipeline. I switch to greyscale quite a bit during texturing to make sure the values look good.
But in the end it doesn't matter how good it looks in the viewport. It HAS to work in game with the shaders and ingame lighting. So my tip would be Base colours, test in game!
cheers Anuxi, The tail is blended to a mixture of main tail and fin bones already. The ribbons are mainly skinned to the fin bones. All moves well, and the ribbons bounce around with the dynamic fin bones.
Water goat is looking very cool! can't wait to see it with masks on also
OK the Sculpt of CM is done, which is nice
vovosunt and I are in retopo, baking, skinning stage
I don't know if I'm allowed to try more than one heroe for this competition, but I'll post pics of this QOP set as well that I'm doing with "[giddyup] Strawmerry ". I'm taking care of the low polys (retopo, bake, skin)
nothing is finalized yet, so any comment is welcome
Working on finishing up a few items I have made for this years new bloom. First up is a Treant Protector Hands. Few niggling issues with the rigging to fix before I call it done.
Done this items, cb with Kaas(concept, texture, promo), Yuri(texture fixs, masks), me (3d part).
Shallow Water
Anger of the Ram King
Green Shadow
Work in process, cb with Mango (concept, promos, textures), Yuri (textures, masks), me (3d part).
"Since we have the new bloom deadline till January 17th, we at polycount decided to extend the contest to match the newbloom event, but we are keeping the prizes for the original deadline"
Isn't the New Bloom event due on the January 19th?
Does a Workshop item have to be public to qualify for this comp (I.e tagged private)? It looks like I'll have time to submit an item, however not all the promotional art will be ready and I'd prefer to not show it without them to the public.
Hi all the talented painters out there! I'm seeking your advice, not being a specialist painter myself. Among lots of other issues, something just don't quite feel right about the lighting/perspective, however I can't put my finger on it.
currently going through, cleaning up brush strokes
Great works guys, love it all! @Toasty: im surely can not call myself a real painter, but i think the problem with your piece is:
1. With a strong back light like that, the main object here ( your naga) is a bit overlit ( ambient light and bounce light cant be that strong imo) and i dont really see any other main light source in your scene from the interior, so if there is, i suggest tune that back light intensity down, and if there isnt then give the main object some serious shadow and strong rim light on the edges of it.
2. Just in my opinion (i could be wrong), the horizontal line in the perspective of this is very low, so this is a slightly 'worm view perspective' and thus you cant really see the floor like that ( you cant really see the floor at all!) so to fix this, you can adjust the background perspective arcordingly, or, you can rotate the camera to get another render of your naga in a more 'bird view perspective' to fit the current background.
Just my 2cents, great work on this set, love how she looks right now
Thanks very much quockhanhlk. Great tips. I've applied to the image a lot of what you mentioned in your comments. I don't want to spam this tread with images too much, so I've posted the image in my personal thread.

The deadline scheduled for 19th of January, according to information on the official blog. Last year the deadline was shifted and the contest was extended. I've created a topic on the dev website http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=153978&p=1196380#post1196380 How more we can contribute to prolongation of the contest?
Last year the event began on January 29th, if they stick to the same timeline that only gives them 10 days to go through the current 480 items submitted for the event. Let alone create all the promo material. Unfortunately for those wanting extensions I would say the 19th is it at this stage.

Chinese New Year starts a couple weeks later this year than it did last year though.
Weapons for Pudge, cb with Mango(Textures, promos, concept), Yuri(Masks, textures). I know that 2 items for same hero not accepting, so i just post here offhand like neutral.
Lost Horn of the Ram (have 3 color styles)
Horned Cleaver
here is my razor concept for new bloom, working with Godzy on this one, i hope it isnt too late, hope we can finish it before the deadline !
Godzy's sculpt wip
Anyway as Toasty mentioned above is the deadline for this contest 17th or 19th? Cause if it is really today then im pretty much done with this month competition xD
Btw, i really like that rubick flower Mdk ! xD great work !
Finishing my single stuff for Spring. Here some sculpts. Progress is simple as usually:
Basemesh in Blender3D, sculpt in zBrush, retopo in 3Dcoat, then some bakes from xNormal, textures in 3Dcoat, salt, pepper, goats/rams, some masks and it's done
(links on sculpts will redirect you to steam page of item)
OK I think I'm officially addicted to doing this!
I've finished my parts of all the sets that were doing back in RavaFx and now I have nothing to do, but I want to make use of these 2 days and challenge myself to make a set in the remaining 2 days
The chance is very low, but let's see. I've done this to myself before many many times but not in this field Puck!
Here is a sketch to say what I have in mind, I'll do the design on the go...

Heh, been working on a sculpt pretty similar to that concept/idea for a few weeks. In fact I pretty much just finished the sculpt tonight. Maybe you subconsciously absorbed the idea after you saw it in my thread?
It's actually turned out pretty different from this old progress shot, just wanted you to be aware something similar is in the works!
well it took me a while to find out why you think these ideas are similar, cause I see them absolutely different.
those things on her back are not fur, they are patterns on her wing
So I think we are both safe to go on with our ideas
So far I have this

Ah good stuff, the concept lead me to believe it was much more similar. Carry on, I like the idea!
Edit: Just to be clear I did not mean to accuse you of anything of course, was just noticing similarities and didn't want to have to cross each other later down the line with very similar sets completed!

it is not that hard

Affirmative
Looking great Sylei!!
Whoa, is that an in-game low poly? The fur boa seems to have worked out pretty nicely!
Yeah, thanks to Nobiru's hard work, and thank you too, your advice help us a lot

Finished sculpt and the current status of the texture, haven't really started painting it yet though. More progress until the end!
there are still some minor rigging to be fixed, but it's texturing time now
Chinese New Year starts a couple weeks later this year than it did last year though.
Yay, finished.... now for a sleep, stiff drink, and a shower... maybe not in that order.
