Draw a line on a new layer! Copy it as many times as you see fit! Transform them into perspective and use them as a guide!
And then go in with a brush and shift click to paint them! Lock the layer's opacity and paint over all of those broadly to fit them in!
Same with the round ones.
@ Korpehn - Thanks bro! You're making steady progress, level-on @Sbjkt Apollo - Sweet! @Graze - Really cool shapes, looks nice!! @Madzia - Hot daaaamn!! Maybe some edges are a lil' bit too soft/indistinct tho? @Muzz - Great start!! @Acapulco - You da man.
acapulco- You sir make me want to paint better environments. thanks for the inspiration.
sbjct-apolla- nice stuff, really captures the mood.
graze- really fun designs man, keep em coming.
madzia- the colors are really on point.
muzz- sweet concept, can't wait to see it fleshed out more.
kaktuzlime- always been a fan of your stuff, love it.
alexkola- nice rendering, good luck on the contest.
Needed more rendering practice so I did a collab with one of my friends redesign of storm.
Just wanted to share some art work I did for a game called "Tiny Bird Story", which has just been released on iOS. The images are of the different birds to choose from, accessories for your bird to wear, and some enemies you must avoid and battlee
@AlexKola- going in the right direction. I feel your painting would benefit from more bounce-light and bounced colors. RIght now all your colors are local, which looks dull. Also your value-contrast is equal all over, the painting would benefit from more conscious focal-points. I also think some more SSS on the skin would make it feel more alive. @Nilknarf885 - Sweet! But the hands are really sloppy, and I feel the boobs are a bit too low. And thanks for the compliment. Your colors are local, I think introducing some bounce-light and SSS will make the colorscheme more appealing. @D1ver - Cool composition, very difficult and brave! @Premium - Nice values! @Spimmy - Cute stuff, looks good! @ErikNilson - Nice studies! Fun silhouette-explorations, but almost too loose IMO. I couldn't show anything that sketchy to an AD for example. Also the value-shifts feel kinda random and create noise which makes the shapes hard to read imo.
Kaktuzlime: Thanks! Yeah they where just some quick doodles after work, and just personal stuff. I feel like I barley have time for my own stuff anymore so gotta get a few mins of noodleing here and there, whenever I can. Working with games tends to suck up all the time right? :P
Nice art tough, good colors, flow and value.
anyway, some 20 min lunch sketchin, clean up and started noodeling on a concept, a lot left to do tough, gonna have to continue next week:
so much goodness you guys! getting into the finishing steps with the riot contest thing, critiques very much appreciated, really trying to push this further
@Muzz hey man! Sweet to see you here too! @acapulco 。◕‿◕。 sooo goood @kaktuzlime ah true! I'm still working to improve my edges! @nilknarf815 awesome Storm redesign! @wizo U need to unify colors much more, every object looks like cut from different photos @JauntyTunes I love this soft rendering
Feel homesick so I drawn polish legendary Highwayman Janosik
Gnashed: Cool with the manga stuff, keep at it! Love that guy from the seven samurai
Madzia: Nice! great colors and light. Would be cool to see some more hard edges.
WindyHillStudio: This looks great, really like the mood. GL with greenlight, you have my vote atleast!
wizo: Looks cool, would be nice if you tightened up the foreground character a bit, like cleaning up some values and tightening up some edges. Good luck with the contest.
ErikNilsson: That's a nice lil funky monster. Looking forward to seeing it finished!
Kaktuzlime: Really cool brushwork on the environment. I think adding some lighter value to the mountains in the background would create more depth, and help the wolf shaped mountain pop even more.
Finished up the environment sketch i posed earlier.
Thanks Korpehn! Your stuff is coming along great too, the colored image with the station looks good, though the shape of the white object bothers me slightly, the top half is sloping a bit more than the right part, but maybe it's not supposed to be completely symmetrical? ^^;
Zorn master study, 3 hours. Trying out having a canvas texture on my brushes, to get a more traditional look and feel.
canvas textures looks nice, but colors came out quite different, too saturated in some places. Zorn was master of limited palette and this one looks like painted with 4 pigments: cadmium red, yellow ochre, ivory black and white. I personally would use only those swatches for painting and avoid adding any more colors from color wheel. And pay attention to hard/soft edges like the light spot on her cheek it have hard edge from top and soft on right. This is the juice of painter's style :poly142:
Even tough it might look vicious, the Green Grappler's ("Crinis Nasus"), diet largly consist of tropical jungle fruit. It moves through the jungle like a big sleepy bear, using its snout-tentacles to search for fallen fruit or other eatables on the forest floor. Its sense of smell is excellent, and even though its eysight is not the best, it makes up for it by combining smell and the sensetive tentacles to feel and smell its way through the forest.
While the claws are good defence and deterrent against the smaller predators of the jungle, their main purpose is to assist the Grappler in getting fruit directly from the trees. Rearing on its backlegs it simly uses its big curved claws to hook into the tree trunks for stability, making retrival of the fruit a simple task.
Turns out my screens at work are a bit wonky, one being more contrast rich than the other, so I might go back and adjust stuff and put it up in my portfolio later
Altough I will probably keep the light more top down and ambient since its a concept piece. (Originally I was just gonna go flat colors with lineart, but it was to damn fun to render :P)
Madzia - great work, beautiful brush strokes and mood. Will do try to tighten things up, thanks for taking the time for feedback! I did some of the tweaks you mentionned and will try to make the lighting more consitent : http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144161
ErikNilsson - loving that creature!
spasmart - great designs and colors, one thing I noticed tho is that they share they exact same composition and pose, was that on purpose?
osed: Swedish mech division? Legs look badass and the mech rendering feels tight. Consider tightening up some edges in the background, right now some of it gets a bit hard to read.
More composition thumbnails, starting to get a hang of the process now.

Have been doing some manga studies lately, trying to understand what it's all really about. Still have a long way to go.

- Unknown Xenobiologist.
Unified light direction with the cast shadow & added a rim light / key light. Added a bit more contrast and some more saturation.
