I'd encourage you to do so if you're willing to show the public the concept you're working from.
If you want to do your own style, it might be more explicit to walk away from the shapes that the original work uses, etc, so it's clear that your version is clearly different, since the only thing separating it right now is that eye highlight.
^ K, then. I'll try to fix it later. Thanks for the suggestion
Anyway, here's another one i've been working on
Supposed to be Hayley Williams from Paramore. She's pretty, decided to model her, but i'm not good at getting a likenes from someone. Keep tweaking on it, but can't seem to get it right. bah.
Not a likeness pro but I would say the forehead maybe too large, as well as the cheekbones being too defined - looks more male than female right now. Cloth looks good though
@Torch
Yeah, got my friend to look at my model, he said that she isn't attractive and looks a lot like male. . Looks like there's more work to be done.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm actually not pretty good at sculpting a cloth, but yeah, i'm pretty happy with it.
So, here's another WIP. Yeah, i got a bad habit of 'getting bored real fast'. whenever i'm bored with a model, i just do another model. That's why almost all of my project never get finished.
^ Because it is The Kid. But he ain't the kid no more, he's The Man!
And that is the best Bastion Fan Art i've ever seen. Tried to do one like that, but failed so hard.
Anyway, i'll try to focus on The Man right now, gave him some junk
^ what concept? If you talking about pictures that Jadeyepanda posted, it isn't mine. It isn't even a concept, it's a(n awesome) lowpoly model done by a member here. ( And it's based on a game, called Bastion, which is SUPER AWESOME!!!)
Yes, i know i lack the skill of modeling. That's why i made this thread, so people could critique my work, and tell me some pretty cool trick and tips on getting better, so i could really do better next time.
Don't worry, i'll keep practicing.
The Kid's hair isn't so upright as it is in most of the official art.
It should poof less, still spiky, but less of the verticality. It's reading more like Manga protaganist hair atm.
Assuming you're still blocking in things, I won't remark about the sculpt until it's further along. Generally a good start though, hoping you'll finish this.
@Jadeeyepanda
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. Here's my fake shitty rimlight, and there's a lot more to be done, but i think i'm done with it. Moving to another projects!!
I thinks it's getting on the right direction now, need a little more polishing + hair. I'm having a hard time modeling hair. Is there any good tutorial out there?
And actually i've already done her hair, but it suck plus i can't get it the alpha working on xoliul's shader.
I don't know what to do. Maybe i'll just leave her bald like that.
Just look for her features...nose, jawline, eyes, lips etc ...etc...Try to make her more feminine..still ur sculpt is lookin like male.. and i would strongly suggest you to give her hair...
@harricool
Thanks for the feedback. As i stated earlier, i've actually done her hair, but can't get it working right with xoliul shader. I'll try to fix on the part you've said.
@jadeeyepanda
Yeah, i'm focusing on that model right now. Still trying to tackle his hair as you mentioned earlier about how it look too upright, and looking back on it, you're right, so i redo it.
And i'm kinda distracted by Fallout : New Vegas. Damn this game is so much fun, can't believe i felt so fucking awesome after shooting someone's head off in this game, and it goes like...KABLOOW!! Ahh, great game.
After finishing The Kid, i'll probably going to do a fan art model about New Vegas. NCR Veteran Ranger Armor looks kick ass!
I think getting the jawline right will get you miles towards a more feminine & lifelike look. While hair is very important I consider it very distracting from the ( sometimes more important ) face features
@Chri
Yeah, definitely agree with that. Such a shame i suck at making hair!
I'll see what i can do about her jawline.
Just to show her WIP hair, since i can't show it with xoliul shader , so here's her hair, with default 3dsmax shader, flat render.
And I can't really go into an insane amount of detail that i want, since i'm working on my laptop with a not-that-good spec.
I'm using mudbox and can't go past 6 subdivision level without my laptop having a frequent freeze.
Right now, there's this huge style conrast between the complex realism of the face vs the amount of wear and tear that is on the clothing. I have a feeling you're either gonna have to commit to either one to keep this all unified.
I'm after something that looks cartoony, but looking a little bit realistic too.
Is there any example on how i should tackle his face to look more 'cartoony' or something?
Abandoned 'The Kid', because i'm having a hard time doing the retopo. My laptop couldn't handle the polycount.
So, from now on, just a simple bust from me.
And as a start, made a fan art of Musashi Miyamoto as seen on vagabond Manga. Need more tweak on the textures, and need to do his awesome hair.
Anbody here can help me please?
Got an annoying problem on displaying my alpha hair. Can't seem to get it working on 3ds max with Xoliul Shader. Tried Marmoset Toolbag too, sure it makes my model looks a lot prettier, but still can't get my alpha hair works.
Is there any software that could render alpha maps without any problem? Or is there any tutorial on how to set em up in 3ds max or marmoset?
Please help me, it just makes me fucking mad. I want to get better!.
Only thing that seem to work is t show my hair on a flat render.

I'd suggest to use ZBrush's "Decimation Master" tool to reduce the polycount of your final sculpt if 3ds Max, Maya or Blender can't handle it in their viewports while retopologizing.

Thanks for the tips. Appreciated that!
About 'The Kid', the retopo is actually almost done, just his hair left to do. So might give it a try later.
Since everyone's been doing the comicon challenge, i'm excited in joining too. To improve my skill on the way as well.
Gonna do my favorite villain, Joker, in his final moment. Here's a speed sculpt on how my Joker gonna look. From Mudbox's head basemesh
Trying to find a good reference, but there's too many Heath Ledger....
EDIT : Oh, and latest update on Musashi Miyamoto. Calling this done, unless i found a way to display his hair to look right.
It's been a long time i'm not modelling anything, so decided to do a little bit of practice today.
I always wanted to model a Disney styled character, so here it is
I'm basing this on Audrey Hepburn, but not really noticeable.
Prob going to do a complete character on this model, if i get more free time.
@ahmed
Well, thanks and sure, i'll work harder. But pretty much can't do a lot of 3d-ing in the mean time, cause i'm actually studying on electrical engineering and got a lot of task on my hand right now.
And small update on her head, forgot to update this here.
The skin bellow the eyes looks weird. It looks like there is some scale there, it should be more blended with the face, check some reference, even typing old man face to google will help. I hope that didn't rustled your jimmies. But it is really good face, and actually fits the concept more then I would think. :thumbup:

Tried to do it with my own style. Is it bad? should i stay true to the original style?

Decided to go with JadeEyePanda suggestions. Any comments?

And trying to compete in Comicon Challenge.
A stylized Joker. Still need to polish things. Clothing is just a blockout for now, detail later.
And for my 'The Kid' model, i decided to delete it because my laptop couldn't handle it anymore...
The Joker turned out pretty great tho!
Miyamoto looks as if he's supposed to have shoulders when you put the cloth like that. This makes it look kind of awkward at that area.
Thanks. Yeah, probably i should, but i'm investing money for my study first.
@luge
Thank you. I think i could improve his texture maps, but working on the same model over and over again is really boring.
@EmAr
Thanks and yes, it looks awkward.

I really like the characters man. Especially the asian dude, beautiful!
Thank you for your kind words.
@Itholon
Yeah, i think i take it a little bit far with the detail.
Thanks, and don't worry, my jimmies are eternal.
Thank you. I love Scott Pilgrim to death. Might want to do Scott and the seven evil exes if i have the time.
Anyway, just a small update on WIP character. Rendered on xoliul shader 2.
Still chipping away his clothes and other stuff. It was hard to keep my motivation up...easily get distracted and bored.
And another project, Red from Transistor. Still trying to nail her look based on the official art..
Lots of unfinished stuff, and yet i'm wanting to do another one. sigh.
