Can't believe The Legend of Korra just ended. While the ending is great (korrasami ftw!!), i still need more closure....
i'm sighing so bad right now.
So, to cope with my loss, i will make a fan art about it.
Here's a quick sculpt of Korra i just made.
Will do game res bust, so i could go crazy on the texture, because she definitely deserve a better one.
An crossposting my unfinished Riot entry. Will continue it and showing my progress here.
Feedback is greatly appreciated, because i never done a proper handpainting exercises before.
Update on Korra, because i feel the need to make a tribute of one of the best series i've ever watched.
Still trying to nail her likeness. A bit more tweak, and i'll go into retopo-ing.
Full body is a possibility, but not right now, my college stuff is at near end, so i need to focus on that first.
And i need to finish my Shyvana this week, and update my Clementine after that.
@JadeEyePanda
Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, i'm still playing with the shape of her hair, because back view is kinda awkward.
After detailing, for the last part, i'm going to add fire and water bending to the bust, for each of her arm.
Would like to add air and earth bending too, but not sure where to put it.
I think i'm done, just need more clean up later. Dropped the element, because i don't know how to tackle them (I've tried, but looks bad).
The pose is basically based on one of the scene in the finale.
Got any critique or suggestion, just throw it at me
I really wanted to continue my Shyvana, and Clementine, but my mind telling me to do Asami with her equalist gloves...
Sigh, my laziness and boredom strikes again..
@Praetus
Yeah, i see what you're talking about. Probably because i don't know how to tackle the muscle in that pose, lol. I'm not gathering enough references.
@Fabio
Check out this thread then. It basically where i posted my update on my Clem model. The one i showed here is outdated, and looking so damn weird, haha.
Hey, i liked season 2. It was great. Still an emotional journey for Clem, although Season 1 is still far too superior.
All part started from a sphere, so its kinda blobby. Wished Mudbox had some of those awesome Zbrush feature.
Likeness is still far off, working on it.
Will add arm + Equalist Glove later.
so, some quick things I noticed about Asami. Her lips aren't as thin in the reference and it makes her face seem larger because of it. Also the hair she has on her left side (our right) is split by her ear, which you don't seem to have. In screenshot, both ears are actually visible although her right ear is overshadowed by hair. Hope that helps.
@blackdragonstory
Thank you for your kind words, because it boosting my confidence!
@praetus
I'll take all the help i can get, so thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, i haven't done the ears, hehe, and still tinkering with the lips, as i'm not happy with it.
Will improve the pose, and overall shape next, since i realize how badly it was after i was away for some time from my laptop.
Again, thanks for the comments. It is appreciated.
Hi, Kamezis.
Thanks for the suggestion. The thing is, if i put the bust in the center of the pedestal, i don't know how to tackle her left hand. It hang in the back, and fall not on a good location.
And if i make the pedestal big enough to cover her left arm, it looks so massive, but it does give a better feel of balance.
What do you guys think? If there's another solution, i'll be happy to hear about them.
But putting her in the center does look nice, so thanks kamezis.
Are you planning to give these proper game textures or just leave them as polypainted sculpts?
Just remorph the pedestal, doesn't have to be a circle.
I got no fancy renderer to give my sculpt a prettier render, so there's that.
Giving it a game res textures is the first idea i had in mind, because i can go crazy with photoshop to give them a prettier texture they deserved.
But that gonna that takes some time though, so i can't exactly tell if i could do that, and not get bored.
Pretty much happy if it ended up just as a sculpt though. Probably going to fix some of the shape, so that i could 3d printed them later on.
Bout the pedestal, I kinda wanted the shape of it to be circle though. But it doesn't hurt to explore the other shape. So thanks for the suggestion.
@Chantel-sky
Thank you. Yeah, i get what you're saying, but i don't want to 'oversexualize' her face feature. Trying to match it from the reference, and pretty happy with the end results.
But, if i'm going to revisit this model some time in the future, i'll definitely going to make her look a bit more feminine. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm really liking your Korra sculpt (still gotta watch that series). I do want to mention though that although overall the model is looking pretty solid I'm noticing some lumpy areas such as in the shoulders. I'm thinking you might have gone with a too dense mesh a bit early. It also looks like the shirt and body is all one mesh. I feel I could help to keep those separate since the transition between the clothes and the body is a bit soft.
@Kosh_fotsirk
Thanks for the advice!
I noticed the lump too, way back before, but i always forget to fix it as i was too busy with the other part of the bust.
And yes, the shirt and body is one mesh made from spheres, because i just don't want to jump back and forth from Mudbox to 3ds Max. I'm just lazy.
Probaly later i'll sculpted another spheres to act as the shirt so it'll look separate.
Thanks again.
EDIT: And go watch it! Or you'll miss one of the best tv show ever created. And while you're at it, if you haven't watched ATLA too, you better watch it first.
It might be intended for kids, but the theme used in the show go way beyond that. Especially Korra, because it was a lot more dark.
Might be a little bit jumpy for TLOK in the first two Season, but man, it did pay off in the third and final Season.
Book 3 is the best, and then followed up by Book 1, Book 4, and the last is Book 2.
Your models have really improved from the beginning of the thread! Well Done! I think you should takle more full body sculpts if you can! It will help get a better grasp of the anatomy! Loved the Korra and Asami busts! Maybe you can try and show some topology?
@leon_raven
Hey, thanks. I appreciated the kind words, really!
Yes, i need to practice on the anatomy a little bit more, and i'm going to start with Red, and the rest of Transistor Cast (The boxer, and the Camerata). I was charmed by Transistor...
Asami and Korra started just as a day sculpts practice, but i improved them later on, that is why it wasn't a full body character model.
@akitarang
Thanks, man.
One thing i definitely trying to improve is my will to finish a project. I seem to abandoned them all, because the lack of motivation, and boredom.
Little update on my Red, just building some basic form on her anatomy. If you notice some glaring mistake on my sculpt, please remind me before i take things too far.
And i'm making the lover/boxer/unknown man/transistor/whatever you may call it.
Taken from Red's head, and then give it some quick makeover.
Since his face not shown ingame, i take some liberty myself, but i'm basing it from one of unused breach function texture tile that kinda showed his face a little.

and Update on Older Clementine Fan Art. Hair is bunch of blob atm.
and actually want to do another fan art of a show i like, but going to finish Red first before i do another one.
And something i whipped up real quick just an hour ago because i got bored.
Yukari Takeba from Persona 3.
Tempted to do the real deal, but still got a lot of unfinished projects on my hand.
I'm going to redo Red, since i made some nasty mistakes on her model, ugh....
But first, i need to finish my Clementine and that Four-Armed Dude.
Here's an update on Takeba, with shitty texture attempt atm.

The way to show the awesomeness of Korra is to show her battle face.
Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, i'm still playing with the shape of her hair, because back view is kinda awkward.

Based on this awesome scene
Keep up

Equalist gloves next, so time to practice some hard-surfacing.

Just a quick feedback, i find weird that the bust is not in the center or the socle, it's give me a feeling of something unbalanced

Hey, thanks! Pretty proud with it myself.
Still suffering from post-finale depression, so doing this kinda thing kinda help.

And another one, probably my last, character from Avatar, Toph Beifong.
From spheres, still a bit dirty though...
Thanks for the advice!

Just need to do some composite work in photoshop.
Thanks, but i don't have Zbrush....
I used Mudbox student version right now, and probably going to switch to Blender in the future.
I appreciate the help though, thanks again!
Likeness is still far off, but pretty happy for a quick practice.
Thanks, man.
One thing i definitely trying to improve is my will to finish a project. I seem to abandoned them all, because the lack of motivation, and boredom.
Anyway, another practice.
Will get back to my Red now.

Since his face not shown ingame, i take some liberty myself, but i'm basing it from one of unused breach function texture tile that kinda showed his face a little.
And the ref. Still need lots of refinement later.
And for the unknown man, with the references i used
Started from sphere.
Ref are based this one
And self portrait
Still not satisfied though. Will revisit her later.
Little update on my Red too
Painting over Royce art to resemblance 'Breach', so i could use it as ref.
And i think i'm done with this Korra
