Is it just me, or has Microsoft shown absolutely zero reason to actually want this console and on reasons why it is a huge hindrance to the majority of consumers?
A few months ago I was very excited about both consoles. Thinking "IT'S GOING TO BE AWESOME!!"...Which console is going to be best?"...etc....
I used to be a huge fan of Xbox but now i'm very turned off by it. If I get a console it'll be a PS4 but even then i'm starting to think...."Sod it!...PC gaming will do". I really can't be bothered with all the extra shit both consoles are trying to market to "none gamers". anyhoo....Yeah....PC is winning, even though I really wanted a console....
In all fairness, the current situation might end up with trading/reselling games being possible. The publishers don't HAVE to lock out used sales. They simply have the option to.
At the end of the day, Activision and EA might just use this ability as a bargaining chip to force GameStop to cough up a sizable portion of their revenue. If that's all that comes out of this, I'm not going to shed any tears. GameStop is bad for the industry, and if they are the only ones who end up suffering over this, I can live with that.
Somehow, I know that's not how its going to shake out. Someone's going to blink, and then its going to get ugly.
People seem to forget that a lot of the issues they have with the new Xbox (even though it's not even out yet, but that's another story), don't affect everyone. For me personally, nothing they have stated so far would really be that negative.
maybe the real world isn't as modern as some people sitting in their hi tech studio complexes believe
In the Stockholm suburbs here where 100mbit is aplenty, we might not be a superpower like the US, but we do get how the internet is supposed to work!
The issues surrounding always on/partially on services like steam and now xbox one is not about internet, it's about how much you can trust the company behind it that they're looking out for you and not their shareholders.
There's areas in Oslo's suburbs with no DSL or Cable - I lived there. I had mobile internet for 3 years
Telenor had no bandwidth (cables as the sales rep put it) available, the cable provider realized they had only downstream capability in that area after they delivered the modem to my door...
I'm in China now. Here's the danger that the government can decide when people can play and when not. I still remember the national mourning day for the earthquake victims. Just to make sure everyone is sad they turned off cable TV for that day
Some leaked rumors regarding the One from a very reliable source at neogaf:
Microsoft is buying out publishers to not mention the PS4 versions of multi-platform titles, so you can assume if the presenter does not say "EXCLUSIVE TO XBOX ONE", that it will also be on PS4.
More in depth DRM info at Gamescom. There is no rental strategy, they're trying to just sweep it under the rug and hope people don't remember.
Cloud power was designed as DRM. It was Microsoft's idea, and they approached other publishers. EA and Ubisoft support, Activision slightly less so.
DRM plans are worse than what they have said.
Mirror's Edge 2 at MS conference.
Prince of Persia (reboot?) at MS conference.
Secret Phil Spencer game = World of Tanks. It is said that you still need Gold to play F2P games?
Paywall for Xbox One.
Dead Rising 3 as Xbox One exclusive. Exclusive DLC for another Capcom game.
No paywall for PS4, but it's unconfirmed.
Sony is very tight on their DRM policies, so no DRM info.

Yep. There are major cities here in the UK that are largely the same. Here in Newcastle my '20Mb' line rarely nets me more than around 1.5Mb, and it costs an absolute fortune
Just checked online and i can't get VM or BT infinity here. So my broadband is only slightly faster than the 3G connection on my phone and that's the best i can get. Before moving here i had VM 30Mb at home which was unreliable as hell, and before that i had VM 30Mb at uni which was even more unreliable. There is no way we are ready to rely on anything cloud based imo.
to be fair to MS, if it just does a check every 24 hours then the speed doesn't matter that much, as long as you can still buy everything on disc and you're content with that. There's usually not much data involved for authentication checks.
For real cloud services it might suck though. When I used 3G I could download from Steam (in a few days) but the cloud saves just did take too long to be practical.

Oh sure the speed may not matter. But the reliability would be an issue :poly124:
Even in utopic Sweden where I have one of the better 100mbps subscriptions, the speed is not amazing (30-40mbps max) and it craps out now and then too.
Man, it's bad enough MS is one of the companies under PRISM, but that list of them essentially racketeering game Dev's is just BS.
At this point they literally have 100% control over the final product even, beyond the Dev's control, I guess the good old days of GameStop charging your an extra 10 bucks over used games doesn't look so bad...

if you're paying for 20Mb and only getting 1.5Mb, you can actually have BT come and upgrade the physical line at no cost to yourself. they mandated themselves that broadband can't be considered "superfast" unless it's over 15Mb/s down/up combined.
I am disturbed by the seeming obsession with "realism" I'm seeing in the XBox presentation. Sunset Overdrive and Killer Instinct will at least bring some nice, colorful exaggeration.
Yeah, I could be into that. I especially like the little trailer where they showed people using Project Spark to proudce space invaders and other classic titles.

Back in my day we had a "Magic remote" called "get off the couch and change your own damn tv." :P

To be fair I sorta did this once with our game. (all I said was, "couldn't be that bad", though..haha)
There's a difference between being paid to make something to get good PR and to market it, and being personally invested in a game/project.

It is, but that says more things about the horrible state of peoples internet, which really isn't right in a modern world that is so reliant on it.
