"Thief - "We get no second chance if the game is not a financial success."
Sorry it's in German, but seems there going the same route as Tomb Raider with there unrealistic sales expectations.
Can't say the games looking in good shape at the minute, so sick of this idea of games having broaden there appeal by dumbing down game mechanics and making them omnigenous of all genres.
What i have heared so far and seen....not too impressed.
a) Basically the visuals were not up to speed...yeah it's not about that but the animations clearly were not done
b) what was the problem with ameter telling you when visible and when not instead of taking away your sight?
c) this sense strengthening another gimmick so people don't frustrate...do people frustrate so much over games?
d) what i heared they turn the mission into a scripted tunnel after you reached your goal...with fire and stuff
e) whats with the constant use of prescripted animations and jumping into killcam? emmersion...heared of it?
i really can't put it into words but by now it' just doesn' seem like what i hoped for. Iam not waiting for anoth thief 1 or 2, but 3 definatly neither.
And yes they said you can switch of the helper (already the semantics..."Helper" to make it easier so you don't frustrate, because there is no time for challenges and no money in challenges we need easy to bite fast to digest stuff and then hear complaints because the games get sold second hand quickly). but switching stuff off that was supposed to be part of the gameplay always makes me feel like iam not having the whole experiences...
I think the lack of Russel is a shame, if simply because he was better. Garret's new guy is just... meh. All the voice acting here sounded meh, especially if u compare it to the originals'.
As a trailer I thought it was poor. No story, no pace, just 'oh let's just tell how the city changed and show the poor are fighting the rich'. Right... I'm totally captivated
The art was cool tho. Not a fan of the cyan vs brown (why insist to be different?), but the assets quality is high
If you're going to have a huge sig like that, at least have something with lightning and lens flare and 'MADE BY K1LLER3IGHTE3NTOKE420' on it in flaming letters.
It's never going to please the fanboys just as Deus Ex HR didn't before it. (I remember people complaining about the interactive objects glowing). The game turned out to be a true deus ex experience at least in my eyes. Even Warren Spector agreed. I think the new Theif looks great. Hopefully eidos can iron out all the kinks before they ship it.
Irreal: here's hoping you're right. While DX:HR's bosses were atrocious, I enjoyed it tremendously even as a big fan of the original.
Of everything I've seen/read of Thi4f so far, I'm not convinced, but hoping very much to be proven wrong.
I think the pacing of the game is different in this one. Also, it looks more action.. but who knows. Blacklist was advertised as very action oriented and what not... and the game is my fav game this year hahaha
So i'll wait to see maybe another demo of gameplay.
trailer looks so good - hope to get my hands on the pc version some time :P
does anybody actually like the zombies ? i hated them
in the old parts - and dont think they fit into the game.. just my two cents
Fighting looks to easy. I fear that when a situation is hard i can only say "fuck you" and kill a half dozen people. It looks like the gameplay support the agressive way to much and the stealth is only another gameplay choice.
It's games like this that prevent me from getting any work done haha. Definitely going to try and pick it up sometime soon but it'd be in my best interest to wait a bit first since this month is going to be very busy for me.
Do we actually know for sure now what the deal is on the differences between xbox one and ps4? There was talkings of a 720p/30 and 1080p/60 on the two, but now that seems to have changed... or maybe not, I don't know.
But right now I only have an xbox one out of the two (clearly I wont be getting the last gen version) and would rather get this on console over PC for *REASONS* I'll pick up a PS4 in the next month or so, but for now, I want to grab this and the new Donkey Kong
It looks amazing. Not quite original DKC levels of awesome, but David Wise is back to do the music (He did the first three games) and my God, that deserves my money alone!
Loved DKC:R, so really, really looking forward to this one with no waggle control!
i did not know about the music composer being the same from the original 3. That is awesome! i love the music on those. Very different ambiance music.
hmm... i dunno what the deal is with the difference between the xbone and ps4 so far anymore. Most of the games coming out didn't run as well or at a higher res on the xbone tho.
Yup, xbox one has really let me down so far Lower spec, terrible UI, lots of issue, poor hardware... Ugh... So many issues an haven't even had it a week yet I'm hoping they both run at the same frame rate and xbone gets 900p and PS4 gets 1080p. I can live with that... But I fear everything may be the same as Tomb Raider, which is just so wrong
But yeah, David Wise is back on Donkey Kong, the music sounds incredible
Was a little skeptical on the review front. But reading RPS thoughts i thought i had nothing to worry about, and just go into the game with an open mind and enjoy what it has to offer.
Some quotes from RPS.
One of the greatest things about the previous Thief games was that raising the difficulty meant lowering the number of times you could kill or attack. It’s a statement that I still desperately wish the rest of the development world would only hear so many years on, but Eidos have. Play on Master difficulty (which I opted for), and you cannot kill anyone at any point in the entire game, and you can only knock out armed opponents. To finish a 20 hour plus game packed with thousands of enemies with a zero kill count is a rare and wonderful thing, and I’m delighted that I did.
But here there’s a Custom difficulty level too. Turn off various factors and the game will reward you with kudos points. Take away quicksave (argh, no!) and you’ll get 180 points. Turning off Focus gets 50, only allowing stealth takedowns another 50, and removing the reticule scores you 30. Right, those are the easy ones. You can remove the ability to heal, or even lose missions if damage is taken. Go entirely insane and you can set the game to “No Kills Or Knockouts”, “No Alerts”, and even “Iron Man” which turns the game into a Roguelike – one death and the entire game is lost. Insanity.
That’s the most important thing to take away from my meandering screed. For the vast majority of the time, I had so much fun. It didn’t need to match its predecessors to achieve that. I have spent the last three days crouched in shadows, terrified of light, giggling with glee as I evade the gazes of patrolling enemies (some of whom even deliver a proper Thiefy “Doo be doo be doo”!), and stuffing every twinkly candlestick and golden pair of scissors I could find into my trousers.
Some will be furious about one aspect or other, and they will be loud about it on the internet. The context sensitive jump/climb/swoop button is going to be the launch pad that fires a lot of people out of the game in abject fury. But the truth is, I’ve had a fantastic time playing it. For where it falls short, it far more often had me crouched in a shadow, heart racing, waiting for the perfect moment to dart past a guard’s routine. It may be the fourth best Thief game, but it’s a damned fine game in its own rights.
ok, so loved the first thief. Had my reservations about this new one. But just seeing this video reminds me a lot of the first level of the original thief, which I played to death! So I expect i'm going to like this a lot also...
The game looks really nice and I want to buy it because of the atmosphere and art direction alone. It's a shame that the story doesn't seem to be any good and they failed to capture the emergent nature of the first two games and decided to opt out for more structured approach of Human Revolution and Bloodlines (according to Total Biscuit, I haven't played the game yet). But from what I understand previous gen limitations held it back in that regard.
Ignore the reviews. Full of shit as usual. The game looks and plays great. If you are a fan of the series then you should be buying. It's a true Thief game.

Here's the Sneaky Bastards' take on things which is about as harsh as you might expect.

I hope the scripted sequences are few and far between. Still looks like it's catering more to the action-crowd then stealth purists.
Can't say the music fits either.
I got to make Garrett's face hood cloak and hands!

The video on this site seems more promising. This is how they should be presenting these "gameplay" trailers, also no dubstep needed!

I wanna play this.
I'll be picking this up for the ps4... it looks great.
does anybody actually like the zombies ? i hated them
in the old parts - and dont think they fit into the game.. just my two cents
is there the option of playing in third person?
my girlfriend gets motion sickness from playing or watching first person games, and i get the feeling this one will be reeeeally bad.
just pre-ordered the master thief edition on steam.
I had no idea it was coming out at the end of the month, totally going to grab this for my ps4
that's a shame... the only real game time i get on my ps4 is while my girlfriend is around, so i can't play any first person games. =[
@Cibo: From what I've heard the fighting isn't easy and you'll probably get mauled if you try to pick a fight.
Art looks fantastic tho!

Nizza, Nyasutro and I had a lot of fun making it.
Kinda wished the scores were better. Hope the people who play it really like it.
I also made some super fun TF2 & DOTA items:
Will wait for a price drop anyway.
