I'm still figuring out what to do for the third and final submission. If anyone else has submitted put up your links, I'd be happy to vote for ya.
Regardless of how broken the contest is, this has turned out to be a nice little exercise for me. I know the last one was a hot mess and some of the choices were questionable to say the least, but I'm having fun coming up with these
And yes, Chrome is ASS-AWFUL to use this app in, try it in FF or IE.
Oh, then I have lost all interest. Allowing voting from day 1 completely ruins the point of any real competition. Anything submitted in the first few days will have loads more votes than something submitted later.
Yeaaaaah, I think the issue is too many people are thinking on how to make the shield be part of the game mechanic rather then do a cosmetic thing as asked.
I mean the mirror thing has been done in all kinds of games, but if 2K came out and said "Design a shield for Bioshock Infinite", making a mirror shield would be a moot thing, since you're not a developer, unlike 2K, who would know best what fits or doesn't fit in a game.
Same with the PC comp for DarkSiders, people designed nice looking weapons, it's up to the developer itself to decide how it will be implemented or if it will be and how, designing something right off the bat with "this is how it would work" only serves to narrow your design options.
What I'm trying to say is that people should be focusing less (or not at all) on a shield that has a certain function in gameplay, especially for a game that most likely has the base design in place, rather then trying to aim for that, and instead should be trying to make a nice design for the shield.
The golden shield looks OK, I mean design wise, in the fluff of Dark series, it would be sense and would fit in pretty well, it could be called the "Screaming Sun" shield, or something like that and have it's own sadistic story.
BTW Sean and Kaiser, could I have your blessing in creating fan-work of your shields in my down-time? I love the Raven motif and the Opposite Sided Wings is just rad.
EDIT: Yes, it would be possible, you just need to do a reskin/retexture of the mesh. There are plenty of people doing it here: http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/

Seriously, download DSFixs lates version, check online for the texture name of the shield you wish too retexture (or just download a retexture off of the nexus to get the files you need) and make awesome stuff. It's a shame you can't redo meshes :S at least not yet..
Some have done really nice things with the texture though, such as this:
So it came to my attention all the top shields are connected, they are all voted by fans. People from the /v/ forum are voting for the V shield, fans of ENB the pig shield, The Legend Never Dies meme etc.
So how many polycounters do we have? Perhaps someone should make a polycount themed shield and we can get all of the forum to upvote it
To be perfectly honest, I really hope the guys running the contest would post something about all these copyrighted works getting in. I mean, even a simple post in the comments saying something is being done about them would suffice.
It has been now many days, and once again they have refused my shield. Even the corrected one that follows the template. However, meanwhile, this one gets posted twice:
Uh, so where did I go wrong?
I think your problem is the white particles on the edges of your shield. I believe I heard awhile back that any design which has what looks like damage to the shield's edges overall won't be accepted.
Also, forgot to include an image for my design before, hope you guys like Aqua Fortis:
As ZacD said, your design should be fine Sean. It's a pity it had to be so heavily altered to be submission ready in the first place. Loved the initial design of yours.
The feeling's mutual about winning, but I doubt I'll be winning in comparison to the other great ones there, but hey, at least I can say I tried. I honestly hope yours wins Sean, the amount of effort you put into your design deserves it.
William, after seeing your most recent post and how much Sean had to alter his intial shield design so drastically, I have absolutely no objections to a reset being imposed on this contest. The amount of copyrighted images getting in just because they adhered to the template's requirements is also unacceptable.
The guys running this thing have got to get their act together.
Well I know when all the cards have been dealt. There's nothing we can do except wait and see if they realise the top results are copyrighted. If they don't and they put them in the game it'd be the kick they need to sort out these PR folks when the uproar comes.
I assume that this mess might be due to Namco calling the shots on the western contest and From being more involved with the Japanese one. That's just a very wild guess, though.
Excellent news, a new message has been posted from the contest organizers actually showing the rules now. Would've been helpful if they did this from the start, but oh well. Just glad they showed that they aren't taking this copyright business lightly.
I am glad the rules are finally defined, but until I actually see the shields deleted I do not believe they are serious. Also, this still does not explain why my third revision is not up yet. I am going to give it until the end of today, and then I am going to send a message to the Dark Souls Facebook thing... unless it is normal for a shield to take this long to pass approval?
MacDonaldFin, how long did it take for your Aqua Fortis shield to show in the gallery after you uploaded it?
About 11-12 hours after I submitted it. However, Aqua Fortis was submitted fairly early into the competition, so I'm not sure wherever the approval times are being affected by the growing number of recent entries. I do remember a notice being posted that they don't work on weekends, so that could be another thing hindering your shield's approval time.

Dumb.
You gotta admit...as goofy as some of these shields are..this is pretty rad.
There's a lot of awful designed highly rated, my favorite is https://apps.facebook.com/darksoulsii/?gallery&action=view&id=972
Dude. Damn. Hotness. Makes me rage at those rules because we miss out on badass stuff like this. Amazing work Sean!
Also LMAO @ their screening process. I mean really? Game of Thrones shields? Adventure time tributes? :poly117:
Also honestly liking the ENB tribute shield :P

Certainly, I am glad you like it enough to do so.
Important note, if you submit a shield over the weekend it won't be added till Monday as the staff are sleeping.
Some have done really nice things with the texture though, such as this:
Which is a retex of the balder shield.

By the way if any of you voted for my shield I appreciate it!
Here it is again if you haven't :P https://apps.facebook.com/darksoulsii/?gallery&action=view&id=1351
Ah, hello again William!
To be perfectly honest, I really hope the guys running the contest would post something about all these copyrighted works getting in. I mean, even a simple post in the comments saying something is being done about them would suffice.
Anyways, here's my shield design for the contest if anyone's interested. Aqua Fortis or "Strong Water"- https://apps.facebook.com/darksoulsii/?gallery&action=view&id=1014
Haha, yeah. To be honest, I've only been on this site a couple of times in the past. However, after seeing this thread, I thought I'd join up.
So, the copyrighted works are getting REALLY out of control now.

Heh you might find this amusing. Yet another example of how broken the compo is
