I've still been playing, been having loads of fun with pvp, and being a dick and invading people. I noticed I wasn't getting invaded too much - and I noticed most people I invade seem completely unprepared. My win ratio is probably about 9/10 for this, so I'm having a blast. Plus I'm getting invaded by blue phantoms now, which is rad.
My pvp character is a sorcerer, mostly intelligence but some faith for some cool hexes. Some people talked about how playing a sorcerer was hard starting out, but it was easy mode for me. Just gotta use binoculars to aim, and know how to dodge. I have a warrior dude who has invested a lot of points into Vigor, Vitality, endurance, and adaptability (each one is 25-35 range) and has highly upgraded armor but when I switch back to him I honestly feel way weaker. At about the same level, fighting the same enemies, my sorceress is sitting at 10,10,10 and 15 for those stats and survival is great. Mostly because I'm keeping my weight low and just dodge everything and keep my distance for the most part. Hmmm. I guess I wouldn't have wanted that for my first playthrough, because I was still learning movesets and taking more hits, but it is a shame. I guess I'll just stick to using armor for cosplay purposes only.
I'm really loving the bonfire ascetic mechanic. I wanted
a moonlight greatsword and crystal soul spear spell on my first playthrough, so I ascetic'd Freja a bunch. Got rough since I was around level 80, haha. Also, I learned you can behead Freja: image.
PS: MLGS is awesome. Amazing intelligence scaling, pure magic damage, leaves most player's heads spinning as the damage goes straight through their high physical resist shield.
Been playing again. With Megamule out there's a lot of cheaters Well when I say cheaters, just low lvls with high end gear. Did you know Soul Level is no longer a factor in Co-op or invasions? It's Soul Memory, a number that starts off at 0 and rises as you gain souls and kill enemies / bosses. So you can literally co-op with a noob with maxed out stats. The system was designed to stop low lvl ganking but megamule save basically works around this design, a shame.
Oh well invasions in NG don't seem to happen much, it's NG + when you're invaded every 5 mins XD
Anyway found some fun videos that are worth watching:
What build you using Habboi? I was trying a Dex build for a while but it makes things feckin tough with no shield, you can dish out loads of punishment though!
finally beat the game. Now just trying to farm Petrified Dragon Bone for my Dual spear build (Spitfire Spear and Gargoyle Bident poison) not the best moveset but its fun
Oh man the moment I started NG+ was the best introduction ever...Imagine, starting in Things Betwixt and looking around me to see a strange man not far away. As I try and make him out suddenly a bird creatures flies at me and my reaction is WTF as I'm surrounded from all angles by these bird throwing men.
So I run and run only to have those two red phantoms drop down like NOPE :P
I knew it'd be a tough ride but I didn't expect that :P
I actually think equipment degradation is unnecessary in DS2. For the most part, players hate having their equipment broken because it takes you out of the game requiring you to return to town to repair.
Why add a mechanic that forces you to stop playing & progressing in the game?
Equipment health is only useful as a way to prevent corpse running over and over: every time you die your equipment takes X% damage.
However, DS2 can avoid this entirely due to it use of UD states where you lose max HP every death.
Therefore I think equipment damage should just be removed.
Woot, just beat it on Sunday. Odd feeling, though... with DS1 I couldn't wait to play it again with a different character, but I don't feel like I wanna touch it for a while right now.
While I beat it in under 40 hours... it feels like it was very long.
Not quite sure how to explain it.
Awesome game, though! Definitely something I'll pick up and play again a few months down the line.
The only optional boss I didn't kill was that fucking ratdog in Doors of Pharros.
I have to say it's a shame about the lighting changes. It's pretty obvious certain areas were a lot darker due to the amount of levels with huge tiling textures like the poison windmill and the sandy cove.
Though I wasn't expecting PC to bring it back...I will be amused if modders take it into their own hands. Wouldn't surprise me after the refunds for false advertising comments I've been seeing on Steam.
They're fixing menu loading times next patch on 11th as well as nerfing boss HP and attack rates, making magic less OP and removing the buff on MLGS so no more CMW wielding MLGS'ers in PVP thank god.
Oh and apparently they're banning some Mule users though I dunno...you can't combat cheaters.
Well I finally had the time to start the game today on my PS3 and I am actually quite disappointed. I don't know if it's just me (from googling it seems to be the PS3 version in general) but the game runs like utter shit. It feels like I am getting a constant fluctuation between 15-25 FPS(even less during combat) which leads to me dying simply because turning my camera leads to huge slowdowns which throw off my button presses. It turns a fun, challenging game into a rage inducing piece of shit.
I'm going to keep trying to enjoy the game because it's fun when this random shit isn't happening, but I think I should have waited for the PC version.
I'm just amazed you didn't wait for PC version since you understand frames and it clearly is important to you. But yeah disc version is superior to PSN version in terms of performance, I get a consistent framerate on my end.
I think it was a case of me not being used to lower framerates. I really only use my consoles when I want to play a game that isn't available on PC (or at least isn't initially available) and the last console game I played for more than an hour was The Guided Fate Paradox back in November.
I spent a few hours just trying to get used to the framerate and it's a lot more enjoyable now. The framerate fluctuates a lot less once you progress a little bit into the game so it stays at around a constant 30 now which is great.
Normally, I would just wait for the PC release of a multiplatform game but the thought of having to wait a whole extra month is really unappealing because I'll have less free time in a month than I do now.
moose! Mathewmatosis does some of the most excellent reviews i have seen so far. He goes into a lot of design choices why they work for him or not, and solutions that actually make sense. I agree most of the time with his perspective and i was pretty baffled at some of the decisions in DS2. Making me a little hesitant to get the pc version on Friday.
just finished listening to it. Although I didn't finish the game, or get very far I had the same impression, and sad to hear that those impressions i got carried through the whole game His closing statement is great, I want to love DS2, i really really do... but I couldn't find any thing that made me want to start loving it, was just very blah.
Going to listen to more of his stuff, is great!
will probably still play on PC, but honestly I'd rather have fun and play diablo 3
Didn't get to play too much ds1 because PC port wouldn't ever work. Ds2 promised a better port. Woo. It ran. But oh my god the controls are the most convuluted thing in the world. Tutorial still uses Xbox controls and you have to go and set it up inside the options to even figure out what to press (Seriously shift+click is interact..not e..e uses items and o keep wasting my gems by accidently using them..I switched that) hard to even change the jeybinds because you have to find the keynind that is the accept button and blah.
Tl;Dr darksouls 2 PC port has horrible controls, but is actually running pretty well. Considering picking up controller though.
I am playing it with the controller. Can't see myself playing this with mouse and keyboard.
so far it runs good. some tearing here and there and i don't seem to find an option to alleviate that. But its not that bad. I feel like there is a lock on the resolution. Here some screens i took.
Hell!
Im a Pc Player in the Core. Have used the Xbox360 Controller but no thanks i love my keyboard and mouse too much.
Dying is fun but damn more deaths because of the controls than the a real enemy treat. In the moment i playing only with Magic, Melee is too frustating. A real 3rd camera fixated is my dream.
GeDoSaTo seems to do quite a nice bit of work and make the game look A LOT nicer. Specially with how grounded things look with the new AO. Good stuff, and looking forward to more updates on the tool. Another reason why i waited to get it on PC. gotta love the mods.
Well well, maybe we'll be getting Demon's Souls 2 after all.
I'll be looking forward to E3 now, wonder what it'll be. Also might explain why DkS 2 was sub-par. If original director and team focused on this then yeah...
Huh, that's interesting. I wonder how their new acquisition by Kadokawa Corporation will effect this. We may or may not see this game come to US since Kadokawa has previously shown little interest on going international, but that might change...we'll see what happens.
Tried the game on Pc the other day, their PC controls are horrible! Switched over to an xbox controller and it's a big improvement but some controls are still truciky to pull off. It took me a good 10 min to actually figure jump out!

I'm now a deprived, and I've just joined the company of champions.
I'm such a masochist...
Nah you're right, the game is pretty vast. Try NG+ when you have the chance, that's when things start getting difficult
So smooth, so silky :P

downgrade confirmed, but everything else is better.
The framerate is identical on 360... the console version is a pretty solid release.

Obviously spoilers.
And lastly...Hah...I've been rolling this armour too for giggles.

I've had no problems with a disk copy. It's consistent and about a thousand times better than the original Dark Souls.

Anybody have any tips for a beginner?
really, REALLY agree with his point that the designers missed the point of the Souls games by making it "harder."
thanks
