Here's some old stuff of mine. I have even older, but I couldn't find it - probably deleted
2008:
2011 (I have no 2012 super finished stuff because I am a lazy bum)
BONUS!
A bunch of years ago I already did a remake of an even older model -- same polycounts, the better one has a smaller texture. I should probably redo it again to see my progress again.
Holy crap, laugh it up!! I have so much horrible old shit I could fill an entire thread with it!!
This is literally a snippet of stuff through my progression, I'm that unlucky kind of artist that has to make a tonne of shit to get better... (sorry about the crudeness of how haphazardly these are thrown together)
Then i discovered zbrush back in about 2005 / 2006 and started sculpting heads non stop, ive got dozens and dozens of these horrible things.
Then i tried to make a girl....
Then was like fuck that, chicks are too hard. Back to guys and monsters or eyeballs, or anything thats not a chick.
Slowly I hated chicks because I sucked so bad at them, I sucked so bad because I never practiced. Every job I was in or freelance job I had, contained a guy / monster to chick ratio of about 1 chick for every 20 or 25 monsters.
So the only time I could really practice was outside of work. Hence, my sole focus on chicks, because tbh, if your a character artist, you probably wont get many chances to make a chick for your day job. Dudes and monsters bro thats how we do it.
Anyway I started to make all kinds of shit, battlecruisers, armor, props etc, just cranking away on all kinds of stuff. Started animating ( my god ) haha.
then I got into some kingdom death stuff - I wish I could show them all....
And my recent stuff !
Was difficult to pull out and select these ancient files, theres just sooooooooo much there, I guess this maybe 15 - 20% in total?
All the files I found, only picked 1 out for each year.
Through all the ups and downs of life I managed some of this.
2004-2006 was college and Hard drive failures .
I was a late bloomer getting into ZBrush, Also teaching yourself wasn't much fun for me, wish I had a buddy but oh well.
It's good to see what's been done over the years and what needs to change.
Maaan! I wish I had my way early work. It was...it was something. This is the earliest I could find. I had no idea what HiPoly modeling was..hell didn't know what a Normal Map was..so I just photosourced everything.
hah this is awesome!!! I've lost so much of my stuff over the years it took quite a internet search to find something. So its not my oldest, but its pretty old. 12-03-2000 when quake bunny was posted on planetquake!
And my latest, polypainted sculpt, making the low poly at the moment:
this was my very first take on 3d character, done in max
sure, I had some experience with 3d prior to that, dating back to 98, but all that is gone, can't find anywhere
my old to recent personal and school art
10 years of being all-rounder. I aware that it takes tons of time and effort to be good in one thing, and it even takes much more time and effort to learn many things at once.
but since I'm not consistent kind of artist, this is what I have .. ^^ and yes there are some ups and downs.
until now I wish I were dude who only love to do one thing ...
@all you guys are rawks this thread is a prove no such a thing as magical shortcut @Hazardous your girl art is amazing , and dang too bad now no one will be able to find out your secret on how to be good at modeling, since there is no secret at all ...
preaty shure I played with 3D max before 2011 but since it was not part of my work or profesion, I just delet them... But i have made progress tracks for my Zbrush stuff... becouse naow it is part of my every day life, here it is:
BEFORE
2011 - My first ever Zbrush class at ZBRUSH WORKSHOPS with Ryan Kingslien
First trys on human faces
First try on Human body
Also 2011 First try on 2D concept art ( lets see if i can make it some day)
And the first try on Creatures for the Cesar Dacol Jr class at Zbrush Workshops
AFTER this now 2012
Im
quite a journey for a year and half on Zbrush... more things to come for shure
3d art wasn't something that came easily to me. I made some terrible stuff for a long time. My idea of a texture used to just be straight up photos and a lot of photoshop filters and layer effects. So if anyone here has ever thought I was being a meanie head with my critiques on your work, it's only because I've made all your mistakes and more! My lesson is: Don't sugarcoat it. We all sucked at one point, but if you put in the time then you can only get better.
The progress is amazing but whats also amazing is how all you guys and girls have stuck with doing what you love for years and years, now that's some incredible dedication!
EarthQuake when did you start venturing into 3D? You seem to have been at for a long time by now.
Around 15 years ago I would say, when I was 12 or 13. I was lucky the urbanterror site is still up to pull that m4 shot from. If I had some of the pre-2000 stuff to post I would but that was many hard drives ago. I'm sure a handful of the older members here have the misfortune of remembering it. =P
Cool! Man I would scare you guys with the anime shit I used to draw. If I remember when I go home tonight, I'll upload a ton of garbage and show you guys.
Time to embarrass myself... I have every page I have drawn since 2003 scanned on my hard drive. Actually kind of fun to see the progress with each year.
i could only find environment stuff..seem to have made a good job of erasing all traces of my early character work!
well organized with every image labled!
this is where i stopped doing any more environment stuff and concentrate on character work! man, wish i could find some of my early abominations that started as human and then quickly got relabeled to aliens!
edit, just found some more on an old dusty cd!
2002, more hardsurface stuff, getting a bit better now, still no characters,
And then characters!
oh shit, from 2001! cant believe im posting this online...
but check out that hairdo! im pretty sure this started as a human... ouch!
2001
and then in 2002 i discovered boobies!
2003
Looks like i was working on a stylized woman!
Hahaha love this thread, it's crazy to see how far everyone has come, puts it into perspective I think.
I travelled through the internet tubes to dig up some of my older stuff, and it turned into a collage of doom and gloom :P Sorry for the big ass images.
When I first started out I was focusing on characters, until one fateful day I posted up on polycount asking "do I suck"... and the answer was YES! (thanks Johny)
So then I started to focus on props / enviroments, and here is some older / recent stuff that I've done.
