Hello, I thought it would be a good idea if some of you fine artists could post one or two pieces of your first 3d/2d art and then a recent piece, to show beginners how much you've improved over the years. I think this would create a lot of motivation for new and older artists.
I did a few searches on this forum to see if theres anything similar but I think there's not, if there is - just tell me and i'll delete this and if possible give me a link to it.

just go through my pc or ca sketchbooks, i have everything up there since 2007
im getting better by the year but theres a shitload of stuff i still need to learn to get better
Here's something I did in 2005:
2008
2012
last doodle in my sketchbook
actually a pretty small improvement. I spent about 20% of the time that i shoudve/couldve easily over the last six years drawing. With the majority of that time in the last year. Ravenslayer up there is setting the example of how to do it.

2012
crap started like this for me
2010
2012 speed (of course, dynamesh helped a lot). Still longways in my personal development with no-ref character sculpts.
And a few months ago, I decided it may be worth it to try a character, again. Took half an hour, then I realized why I don't make characters. Past this stage, it loses its interest for me:
And here is an environment I did in 2006:
And one from 2008 (a little better):
And something more recent:
End of 2011
Mid 2011
latest work

Vast improvement, great job. I love the 2012 work!
~1999? This is possibly the first real unwraped model I ever did. Low poly Modeled, UV'd and textured.
~1999/2000 This is my first model in a game engine I think. It was for a Serious Sam mod while in college.
Concepted and started in 2007 and then finished in 2012

I only wish I had some of my old character models from my first portfolio I made in 2002/2003. There were some humdingers in there!
photobucket is trying to extort me into displaying my own
Question though; Is this a modeling/2D art thread only?
Latest 2 personal pieces
here's a couple
2006
2010
2012
2004 (GMax tutorial, hey max isn't so bad...)
2005 (Maya?)
2007-2010 (Maya, Max, Source)
2011 (Max, UDK) This is a step backwards but I learned a lot about UDK
Art-wise I've been slacking pretty good this year, the one environment I've worked on I shelved because it was built around mirroring UV's in unique ways which UDK doesn't support, Total Buz-Kill.
I've been focused on facial animation at work and being a dad at home. I have a animation project I'm story boarding, trying to do personal projects with limited personal time is tough.

These were my first attempts in PS. Check out the burn and dodge on that Minotaur! And that womans shoulders are epic! lol.
College and degree work. First proper 3D stuff. Cinema4D and ZBrush2! (I think it was)
more recent works.
This is the first level I made back in November 2007, when Crytek released their Crysis demo and CE2 with some assets. As you can see I'm not a natural... It was the first engine I ever used so I was a total beginner. The clouds... yikes.
This is some of the environmental work I've done since then. Still CryEngine2. I should really do something in CE3, just haven't got around to do it yet.
2006
my first 3d character model ever, done in max following swordmaster tutorial
2007
2nd character and first normal mapped character after a year break and a jump to maya

And a more recent enviro, 2011.

Sorry I haven't created more characters since late 2010 ^^
Before I buy a computer, in 2003, I used to draw in pencils. Mainly copying photos of (naked) women.
I started in digital painting in 2004. I was an anime fan by that time.
Currently - 2012 - I paint like this:
My first decent 3D model (2005, heavily based on Joan of Arc tutorial):
And a recent model (not finished, but gives a good idea):
First game model ever - 2006
And one from 2012
Speed sculpt, 2007 x 2012.
And for comparison purposes, there goes two images. First is from 2004. Last made in 2011.
Massive dump incoming!

Here are, I think, my very first models (around 2001/02-ish). I remember that it took me forever to model them (splines!).
Some of my recent speed sculpts :
